Yeah, I think you guys hit the nail.
We’re setting out to create unique, interesting, and diverse classes that each have their own style and flavor. Most importantly this isn’t just a basic look at each individual class, but how they compare to each other and overlap (or hopefully, don’t).
When you up the number of classes more and more you’re eventually going to begin down the route of homogenization, they start to bleed into each other’s core abilities and styles which really just detracts from each individual class’ recognizability and distinction within the game.
In addition, by limiting the number - and I say limiting not because it’s a low number, it’s the number of classes in Diablo II and a good one at that, but because we’re not going crazy with it - we can focus on making each class really impressive, both visually and through the way they each feel and play.
no that wont happen because this is a party game they wont need the druid because he got mixed with the necro resulting in the witch doctor, they will place the paladin there for the auras.
My bad, I meant fan favorite. Blizzard's words, not mine. ^_-
Unlike all the other classes which required thought into building, you could just dump points into STR and Vitality , then leap/whirl your way to PWNage lol
Also, the Cleric idea is dumb. Actually... I've had a change of heart, my recommended classes:
Warrior, Paladin, Mage, Cleric, Hunter.
I hope Blizzard doesn't give in to cries of, "shod b mor like wow!", :[.
If they diversify the trees more than d2 did the Barb will mostlikely be an extremely versatile toon to play and a good addition to a party. Anyone can build a cookie cutter ... it's fun to build something that no one expects and the barb had quite a few interesting build options that left PK's staring blankly at their screens wondering wtf happened. Anyone could find a Cruel polearm and 3 shot Meph in hell, but imagination reins and doing something with a class that everyone expects to suck is satisfying to the extreme.
If they were going to bring back a class from D2 it kindof HAD to be the barb. For a melee class it is one of the most versatile giving players the ability to make an armoured juggernaut or a lightning fast blender with equal ease. I for one thank them for bringing the Barb back for the simple fact that lots of people do have such distain for them that Barb's are underestimated at first glance for just long enough to have their foe's faces ripped off and handed back to them.
I think there should be:
A character that commands the weather and changes shape - sort of combining the Druid's nature based skills with the Sorceress' blizzard and thunderstorm skills. Little to no fire skills here, except of course Warm to regenerate mana.
I also see a character that creates magical damage and heals - thus we have magic bolts, something that has the effect of Static Charge, etc. coupled with healing and offensive auras. Perhaps a few fire skills here, but no meteor, hydra, or such, maybe fire wall or enchant (even though I thought enchant was largely useless). This character would be stronger than the first, nature based character, perhaps more like the Iron Wolves of Act 3, with swords more common than staves.
The third character I see is more along the Amazon and Assassin combination, with a few of the Paladin attack skills thrown in. Hopefully no traps though. Traps just didn't seem that, well, real (as if hurling fireballs is) as it would take a long time to set up a trap. This character would have to specialize in either ranged or up close melee and would have to specialize in the effect (cold, heat, etc.) that goes along with their selected weapons. Thus no fire arrow, but having to specialize separately into bow skills and fire damage. Thus you would be able to respec without too much difficulty into another type of damage or another type of weapon, but not both.
Looking at the style of the new Diablo III. Imagine a Necro in it. It would not fit one bit. But the Witch Doctor fits a lot more in the new graphic environment. However, if you imagine the Diablo II graphic applied on Witch Doctor, and have him in Diablo II. The Witch Doctor would not fit one bit as well.
If you look at the other classes. Druid and Babarians are probably the most fitting in the new environment. I'm assuming there would be Druids since the shapeshifting type character will almost definately be reused.
Well actually I have to disagree as well. I see where you're going with the add, but I don't think it was just a simple add. Diablo II LOD remains one of the best selling expansions of all time, not to mention one of the highest rated expansions.
But my point really isn't the fact that Druids suit the environment, which is why they should be there. My point which I didn't mention was the fact that the shapeshifting class is very very popular, and shapeshifting class is a perfect fit for a hybrid class. I doubt we'll be seeing a demon shapeshifting class because that would out of question (don't think good guys wanna become a demon). But I think we'll be seeing a shapeshifting class of some sort. Maybe not necessarily Druids, but the only reason I would think its druid is because the environment also sorta gives a reason for druids to appear. To cleanse the forest of demons and also because I can't think of what else you can shape shift to.
But I see your point. Witch Doctor does have some druid type skills, but I think they'll probably be more of a necro char in D2, where they focus more on cursing and summoning (with awesome rituals maybe).
*crosses fingers*
No lie, the Wolf Druid was my favorite class and Build
i want a mage that can raise huge pillars of fire out of the ground to obliterate my enemies
If you change pillars to totem poles it sounds like a skill the Witch doctor would have
i personally wont like it, but its a possibility
What would the totem poles do?
