Yeah, I think you guys hit the nail.
We’re setting out to create unique, interesting, and diverse classes that each have their own style and flavor. Most importantly this isn’t just a basic look at each individual class, but how they compare to each other and overlap (or hopefully, don’t).
When you up the number of classes more and more you’re eventually going to begin down the route of homogenization, they start to bleed into each other’s core abilities and styles which really just detracts from each individual class’ recognizability and distinction within the game.
In addition, by limiting the number - and I say limiting not because it’s a low number, it’s the number of classes in Diablo II and a good one at that, but because we’re not going crazy with it - we can focus on making each class really impressive, both visually and through the way they each feel and play.
I don't care for the barb returning if the others are not though.
one idea I came across was that there could be a monk character that would not heal, I highly doubt it but it is a possibility.

i hate you WoW freaks! agreed its fun and whatever but Paladin was a class in Diablo way before WoW was created. the same company makes Diablo and Warcraft so you will find similarities GET OVER IT!!!
How much different could the necro be in comparison to the witch doctor? Blizzard said a few times now that they do not want overlapping characters and it seems to me that they have very similar play styles and skill trees.
Ranged Class: TBA (Rogue?)
Heavy Caster Class: TBA (Sorcerer?)
Melee/Caster Class: TBA (Druid?)
Light Caster/Summoning Class: Witch Doctor
So far, this what what we know and a few possibilites regarding the remaining character classes. Most of all, I hope the Druid returns, however that is just my honest opinion. However, it would be nice to know what happened to the Priests of Rathma and the Knights of the Zakarum.

i hope the druid returns too i think he could have cool looking spells better than D2 Expan.
Curses: Hexes
Poison: Plague
Skeletons: Zombies
No, I believe you are mistaken.
and there wont be much use for healing spells unless you're in a boss battle since they have the red orbs now
Even if all we had was potions there would be no need for a healer class.
Omfg.. are people still going on about WoW? Actually the paladin was in d2 and many games before WoW you retard.. Why does that matter at all... Both games are by Blizzard and kick ass, you just sound rediculously childish.
You are very rude
Im 21 and not overweight
sry 2 tell u but blizz dev team stated they don't want to have a tank or a healer so there goes pally but u can hope 4 a class that has some similarities
I don't think they'll bring back the Paladin. They already brought back the Barb and there's only 3 more classes remaining. Ah heck you never know, right? But didn't Blizzard say they didn't want to bring back D2 characters? I'm not sure. Maybe the barb was an exception because he was a popular favorite.
I can see a class that gives a lot of buffs, like the paladin, but isn't a paladin. Lol. I'm sure the remaining classes must be a ranged attacker and a magic based one. But are totally different from their predecessors, Just like the Witch Dotor is from the Necromancer. Maybe even another melee character that's a lot different from the barb, like the assassin. What other type of class could there be? Not class but... fighting style.
