The big deal is that a lack of dedicated servers is having a negative impact on competitive gaming. There are, of course, other reasons, and some good general overviews can be found here and here.

Basically, this is all just a slap in the face to PC users; the series wouldn't be what it is today without the support of PC users.

Also, for you people arguing over the controller vs. keyboard/mouse, take a look at this.

If I had the extra money, I'd love to get one of these.

And is it just me, or does the Barbarian look very "shoop da whoop" with his helmet off?

I'm awaiting Darkfall as well. But, I am really starting to worry if it's going to be that great or not. I mean, the features they have promised sound AWESOME. But I don't want it to be like Age of Conan. Age of Conan was fun for a little bit, but once you got to a certain level it kind of just... stopped. lol Plus, the fact that I'd have to play on EU servers until they release it in NA a couple months later would just suck.

That's also my fear. A lot of the features sound too good to be true, and I really don't want to get caught up in all the hype only to be disappointed when it finally is released. From the sounds of it, Darkfall sounds like the ideal MMO for me - no leveling/class systems, hopes for a solid user-based economy (I've always wanted to have my own store, haha), mounted combat with mounts that can actually be killed - a real roleplayer's paradise (yeah, sometimes I'm one of those types).

I read somewhere that the open beta started today. I'd love to get in on it, but I'll be watching it carefully regardless.

Another game I'd love to see released is a game called Winter. I read about it on a FARK thread the other day, and it seems like an interesting survival horror game for the Wii. The only problem is that a game like that probably won't ever see the light of day because the creators can't get a company to pick the game up. It's too bad; the Wii has some great potential, but Nintendo's really dropping the ball.

I'm eagerly awaiting Darkfall. I think it'll be a nice break away from typical MMORPGs, since they've taken away instances, classes, and leveling (everything is skill-based). My only hope is that it doesn't flop, because Darkfall has the potential to be something fantastic.

Of course, Diablo 3 and The Sims 3 are also on my list. Yay.

This looks interesting, I'll give it a go. BTW, how's LOTR online? I'm kinda a Toklien fan, and I'm kinda starting to love MMORPG's, so I'm kinda interested.

Lord of the Rings Online is a decent game, and definitely a nice change from World of Warcraft (not that I've ever played World of Warcraft; I'm just sick of hearing about it). It's a pretty storyline-driven game, so if you're a fan of the lore (or if you just like those type of games), then you'll probably enjoy playing it.

I enjoyed a lot of things about the game, but probably one of my favorite things was visiting places like Bree and Rivendell for the first time. You can go inside the Prancing Pony and meet Strider/Aragorn, or go hang out with the Hobbits in the Shire or Staddle.

I also enjoyed the way PvP is handled. When your character reaches a certain level, you'll be able to unlock something called Monster Play, which will allow you to take part in PvMP (Player vs. Monster Player). You can then create an enemy character, like an Uruk-hai or Warg, and play in the Ettenmoors, which is basically a free-for-all PvP area.

The only complaint I have is that the community is pretty quiet. Most people seem to just do their own thing, but they'll generally give you a hand if you ask for it.

I've been playing around with it a little bit (I needed something to play since I had to temporarily suspend my Lord of the Rings Online account :().

Aside of the bugs (since it is beta, after all) the game is very good. I haven't gotten very far yet due to Christmas stuff, but what I have experienced has been excellent. I love the quests and armor details, and the crafting is very reminiscent of Lord of the Rings Online. There are six classes to choose from, with two more being added some time in the future. The best part is that you can dual-class, giving you a bit more customization for your character.

The only problem I have so far is that the Knight class seems to be broken; a Knight can spend forever building up hate toward a monster just to have it all taken away the first time a Mage or Scout hits said monster; the monster will then target the character that did the most damage, requiring the Knight to chase it down and rebuild hatred. It's annoying, but it's kept me from grouping too much; Knights are fine for solo anyway.

I know just as well as you do that this game will eventually turn into a grindfest, since that's basically what MMOs do. I do have higher hopes for this one though, since it's a German game and not a typical Korean MMORPG.

Anyway, I play on the US English region on the Artemis server (usually channel 2).

posted a message on Christmas this year, yeah?
With the exception of a few items, I'm making most of my gifts this year. I just don't have the money to spend on junk that'll just end up breaking in six months anyway.

My parents are getting a crocheted lap blanket that I still have to finish; it should be done by tomorrow, I hope. Everyone else is getting a scarf (with a hat if I have time), and either a piece of handmade jewelry or a homemade cookies.

I didn't ask for anything for myself. I'm happier watching everyone else open their presents.

Kind of makes you wonder where the parents are when all of this happens.

They're likely the ones that are blaming the gaming industry in the first place; after all, precious little Timmy wouldn't have beat up his friends if he hadn't been playing God of War or Grand Theft Auto, right?

Honestly though, I think people are just looking for a scapegoat and the gaming industry just happens to be there. C'est la vie.

posted a message on Anyone know where the concept art for the original d2 chars is?
As said above, you can find some character artwork on the Arreat Summit. The art style of the Druid and Assassin are slightly different than the original characters, but it's all pretty keen.

You might also be interested in Planet Diablo's sketch gallery. There aren't any character drawings (official ones anyway, as far as I can tell), but there are a few monster sketches that are pretty nice. You can also find some character renders and desktop wallpapers there.

I think the best gallery I've ever looked at, though, is this gallery on diii.net. There are a lot of images taken from the Diablo and Diablo II manuals, but there's some nifty concept art in there as well (for example, this early concept of the Druid in a bird transformation).

Jesus. Then I guess it's only me. I had no school today as well because of road and weather. And while I am snowboarding down hills, you all seem to be tanning on beaches.

Nah, you're not alone. I live in the western part of lower Michigan, so I get to experience the joys of lake-effect snow every winter, along with the fun that comes with living in a city that hates to part with their precious tax money.

The roads here are terrible because the city is scaling back on the use of salt and sand trucks this year (yay, saving money). They're refusing to do work on many of the side streets, so people are having a really hard time getting to school or work because of it.

Hell, my boyfriend recently got into a car accident on his way home from work about two weeks ago because he has to travel down a street that the city refused to work on. According to the people that towed the car, there was another accident on that same corner just a few hours later; and yet, nothing was done to take care of the problem.

    /rant.
