people are using an exploit to get into player's accounts even if they have an authenticator

Spreading rumors as fact isn't helping. Unless this can be verified, it's best not to state this as fact. If there was a loophole as such, Blizzard would stand to gain nothing by denying it and hiding an ongoing compromise via their end.

Have you considered that maybe these complainers you hate so much actually really wanted to enjoy the game? And that they're upset because the game is not what they were expecting. I just made an account to post this, so I'm not one of your dreaded complainers but I just might be soon. If I come to this board (or more likely, the Blizzard Diablo 3 board) to post about something I don't like, it's because I really care about the game and I want to see it improved (in my eyes).

Some criticism over time is understandable, but much of the bitchin we're hearing is unwarranted as we haven't had time to really learn the game yet, Bliz has explicitly stated that their work is just beginning and we should expect patches to be forthcoming, as well as a PvP arena and many changes/new additions.

People just flat-out aren't being patient. What's worse is those of us whom are patient, whom do love this game, whom do see the potential, are being called "fanboys" and "retards".

It kinda sucks to post on our fansite while we're at work/taking a break, and have to be called retard fanboys for liking the game we're all excited about. If you truly don't like it, contact customer support and take advantage of their 30 day return policy and shut the !@$# up about it.

I call bullshit on most of the haters anyway. They spout off here for a few minutes and likely hurry back to the game, and will continue to play it for years, bitching like school children the whole time. Like some fat kid that ate a whole pizza and then complained about how bad it was.

I can't believe how many people this is client side. Like, cmon, really? A massive spike in account hacks (complete with not discriminating against people with authenticators) happen in a 48 hour period, and you people think they are all completely unrelated user errors? Holy fuck you are people are delusional blizzard fanboys.

So here's whats actually happening- The hack is happening in game, it's related to friend lists and how friended accounts communicate with each other, and is bypassing blizzard authentication servers. There are a ton of posts, and screen shots, many of them people having authenticators of this happening. Many gaming websites have had employees get hacked this way and are upping articles about it. There is almost 0 chance this is client side, and that there is nothing client side you can do to prevent it from happening.

But despite all this evidence, you only need to know one thing: if there is a MASSIVE influx of hacked accounts in an incredibly short period, you can be 100% positive knowing they arent all unrelated user error. You would be a literal retard if you thought that.

Terms like "delusional blizzard fanboys" and "retards" sure makes you seem like you know what you're talking about. Try being a little more mature and maybe people will listen to your pleas.

Blizz is releasing a statement on this issues within the next few hours via battle.net forums.

Someone just tried to hack my account just a few minutes ago. I immediately changed my password. Thank God I did it quick enough and signed back on, none of my things are missing. Someone random was added to my friend's list. I reported them and removed them.

Watch out people! I haven't bought any gold or anything else from anywhere, and the only website I've been to D3 related is this one and the official one. So Blizzard needs to check their servers!!!!

How does someone random get added to your friends list, and what makes you believe you were almost hacked?

    Just curious...

I saw a thread on the Battle.net forums "I lost 2 trillion gold".

Gee.....I wonder how he got 2 trillion gold? Maybe if people weren't buying gold from the Chinese and screwing around on websites that they have no business visiting, we wouldn't see so many issues with account compromises? Yet all these dolts can think to do is blame Bliz.

Perhaps I'm just lucky, but in 5 years of D2 online and 7 years of Guild Wars, I've never been hacked or compromised in any way. Are people just careless? Unfortunate?

tbh there is no such thing as 174%. There is 100%.

I'm not going to pretend to know how they work it in D3, but in D2 you could stack MF well beyond 100%. I typically ran with 350%. Anything more than that and you get incrementally diminished returns. Playing around with the numbers as I did, I would notice a difference in drops @ 200%+. But with 100% or less, I wouldn't notice anything, and this was extensively tested by me in D2. How it works in D3, I'm not sure, but I would think that they used a similar template.

My advice would be to equip yourself for fast kills & survivability at the highest iLvL (item drop level limit) area you can and farm it repeatedly. As you start to become capable of running that area with impunity and the area has a high iLvL, start to switch in MF gear and see how it affects your survivabilty.

In other words, if you cannot kill quickly and stay alive, you either need less MF gear or a lower difficulty area to farm. I would take the MF gear off and just concentrate on faster, high level kills. The more you kill, the faster you kill, the better your odds of good drops. This off-sets low MF in a far more effective way than running high MF and struggling to kill in ACT 4 Hell.

There was always a flawed thinking that MF affected drops more than it actually does. I know in D2, even with 350% MF, I could run 50-150 Pindle, Shenk, Meph runs without a single decent high iLvL Unique drop. I think people should avoid MF until we learn how to really build characters. I'm seeing a lot of people pretending like they know it all about char builds after only 5-6 days. We're all noobs here.

    My point still stands.
Why would you occupy your time with something you dislike when you could busy yourself with something you like.
Exactly my thought - people, attacking those that have issues with D3 could perfectly follow your advice.
I like constructive criticism, you know, the sort people place thought behind. So far I've seen a predominance of idiotic statements being thrown around. "The story doesn't make sense, I don't understand it, so it sucks" coming from people who didn't listen to dialogues or payed attention. "Hell is too hard, make it easier for me so I can progress" when Blizzard clearly stated that Normal is the tutorial, nightmare is where the real game begins, hell is where you'll die a lot and need good gear and strategies, and inferno is supposed to be almost impossible."Itemization sucks, the items have too many randomization added to them" ... this argument leave me speechless ... I will agree though that legendary gear need a buff.

If people place some thought and reasoning behind what they actually want from the game, then Blizzard would maybe help improve the game, rather than sifting through piles of trash statements and overlooking the valid points.

The bottom line is this: we are now limited to playing when Blizzard wants us to, and not when we want to. And why? Because some people got into some shady deals and got scammed, and because Blizzard couldn't police their servers well enough to detect bots? Screw that.
Doesn't this just reflect life? A few selfish pricks always need to go out of their way to ruin everything for the rest.
Yes, you can say it didn't affect you. Likewise, I can say I don't PvP in Diablo, so I feel they shouldn't add it and rather just focus on PvE and make the game better for me. Now that would be selfish, wouldn't it?

Some of the issues with D2 online was really far reaching. My short online D2 career never took off because of all this crap. I really wanted to participate, but eventually I chose against it, for the reasons people state it sucked where just that overwhelming. You can say it however you like, but Diablo is a co-op experience, first and foremost, and in this day and age internet play is growing to overtake LAN in a major way. Online features in gaming has blossomed, and this was the obvious direction to take D3 in.

I understand a lot of your points, really I do. To an extent I agree that D3 should be LoD+, a sequel should by all right be superior to its predecessor and its expanded content. However, D2 didn't have skill rune effects, nor did it have a large crafting component through the use of salvaged materials, or even randomly generated events, even it's economy sucked and needed to be restructured from the ground up.
What I'm trying to say is, D3 isn't merely building on D2 LOD, it's also taking many new features and trying to incorporate it into the established format of the Diablo games. They couldn't exactly go balls to the walls and make an intricate crafting system, or give each class insane skill layouts with hundreds of skills through numerous customizable rune effects. This isn't D2.5 or LOD+ where old systems were expanded. This is D3, an entirely new game with entirely new systems. Just wait and see what they do with the expansions. I'm sure you'll be impressed to find just how much they can improve and expand on the new features they've created.

You are lucky you did not loved d2, nor you can see the crap d3 is stuffed with. Just enjoy the game and don't make the situation more sad that it is PLEASE.
Actually, I loved D2. I loved it so much in fact that I saw the glaring flaws that hampered the game. Sorry you can't see that crap that weighed that game down, and the fact that your jaded nostalgia is holding you back from experiencing a good game that can stand on its own.

D3 isn't trying to stand strong on D2's back. In fact D2 was a huge step away from D1, almost vastly so. Its time people see D3 is a big step away from D2, very much like D2's departure from D1.

    Beautiful sir.

I want to add that I believe in short order, Bliz will release patches/expansions that tie LoD and D3 together in a stunning package. I can see it coming......

It seems apparent that there was so much more that they wanted to include but could not due to time constraints. Bliz had a finite amount of time...they can buy all the resources they need, but they cannot buy time.

Just wait, people. Soon Bliz will marry LoD and D3 together with patches and we're gonna love them. I have faith that any company that could create such frickin awesomeness can manage to accomplish this.

What I retorted was that the dev team should've taken the lessons learned in LoD (and not necessarily the exact same features, like you said) and applied them to D3. Instead, they just tried to solve some of the problems of vanilla D2, completely forgetting that LoD had already solved a ton of them.

First off I want to say that it's refreshing to hear complaints from someone that is obviously mature and intelligent. A nice switch up from the cry-baby kids spouting off. I can tell you're a true fan of the franchise and your concern is pure.

I understand the idea you wish to convey. That releasing a game so 'incomplete' seems counter-intuitive given that this is what they did with D2.

I'm thinking that perhaps they left some issues on the table, like item depth, drops, party size, social communication etc so that they could address more serious issues. I think the most potent 'lesson learned' was how the integrity of their game goes to jack shit when they allow their program to be compromised.

You spoke of 'Eastern Sun'. Thats a mod, correct? That means because some independent programmer had access to the full D2 client, they were allowed to manipulate it. Just as others had done, learning to dupe, create silly things like the flash hack (anyone remember that annoying shit?) etc...

The lesson learned was; If Bliz intends to create a fun game that will last as long as D2, but without the mess of dupes and hacks, than they must deny the full client to the general public i.e. no offline option for the consumer.

The way I see it, that's what Bliz said to us, the consumers; We have this great game. We intend to provide it online and maintain it for many many years, but in order to do so without the hacks and dupes, we cannot compromise the integrity of the program by storing the program on millions of private hard drives.

The server issues will straighten out. If an upstart company like ArenaNet could manage it for 7 years, I'm sure a conglomerate powerhouse like Bliz can figure it out. I'm just asking (as well as Bliz) that we all try to be patient. If server issues continue to be a problem after many weeks, we as a community of fans are going to have to voice our concerns. But it's too early right now. Give'em a break I say.

I think the bottom line is that this thing just got started, not even a week old, and people haven't got the foresight to see the potential for this launch to far exceed D2. The server issues will stabilize. If they do not, Bliz loses millions of $$$.

Go ahead and stick your head in the sand and romanticize about an antiquated D2 that DID have, and still does have, huge issues that drove people to quit. I quit because I got sick of farming the same 4 areas with the same cookie cutter builds.

D3 should pick up where LoD left off

I disagree. I think the fun of LoD with better graphics and new maps would've been ill received as a vomited, imagination deficient sequel. People would've been picking it apart for being a rehash. D3 is a new beginning.

    1. Trade games , trading in game with ppl was really fun !

It was fun and I met a lot of my friends that way. Sometimes the bartering was fun. However.....it could be a tremendous pain. scammers wasting your time with their dirty, silly little tricks like trying to pass off a soulstone for an anni. "Oh...wait, need to make room" and then they switch.....lol, yea right

It was also a pain in the butt to deal with the kids whom would demand an unfair price and if you didn't let them rip you, you get cussed out and called a noob. Won't miss that.

I have no plans to ever use the RMAH. I always had an objection to buying items with real cash, never once have I done that.

But you're right.....I will miss the interaction in trades, despite all the stupid kids, jerks and scammers.

Having to store runes. Those things added up so fast. They were a pain to deal with.

Related; Duped runes. The same items that entirely supported the economy were also the most duped items in the game. They were a form of currency, making gold obsolete. In effect, it was like dealing in disappearing gold.
