Diablo is too epic to be on DS
They dont have to do something Drastic, Like write a new chapter in Diablo's storyline for this. It could merely be Diablo 2 with maybe A few New items and some New Quests thrown in.

According to IGN, while Sams wasn’t ready to spill the beans just yet, he did say Blizzard “will have a major product announcement in 2007,” and that Blizzard was currently working on at least three other unannounced titles at the moment.

posted a message on Diablo 3 Graphics: Which would you prefer
I Dont know why, but I would Really hate for diablo3 to be 3d. Honestly the 2d graphics works with diablos gameplay style so well, that i wouldnt buy the game anyother way than with 2d graphics. They should just use more advanced, smooth, 2d visuals, rather than having 3d with blocky polygons like wow. 3d is meant for MMORPGS and RTS's and works well with them. But Diablos gameplay style just doesnt match with 3d graphics.

If Diablo 3 Strayed too far away from what it originally was, it might as well not be called Diablo. They could just as easily scrap diablo and make a new franchise if people just want another MMORPG all-over again. Diablo 2's gameplay style didnt change much from Diablo 1, but it evolved and people loved it. The same thing should happen with Diablo 3. The Game should take a huge evolution in the amount of content in the game (Skills, Quests, Items, Classes,) as well as a graphics upgrade, but keep the simple gameplay style people loved. The skills also need to become more useful and never expire. (this means a skill can never become outdated, like the skills evolve more with points added, so you will always be able to find a good use for any skill.) I hated that in Diablo 2 some skills are just never used much because a better skill replaces it, and makes it pointless to have put more than one point on the skill that was replaced. You should be able to affectively use any skill throughout the game, from start to finish .

PhrozenDragon, You obviously have never played a DS. You dont have to pound the screen to get it to work. The screen will respond to fairly light touches. And yeah a lot of games that i have for my DS does use the L button while using the touch screen. Simply hold the DS with your left hand and your finger on the L button (the ds is light in weight so this is no problem at all) And hold the Stylus in your right hand for the touch screen. You wouldnt be able to use R, but mana potions could be hotkeyed to the D-pad since it wont be used for anything else.

....But i was thinking about a good control scheme, very simillar to the pc version of Diablo 2. First of all the graphics would look just like Diablo 2. You would control your character with the bottom touch screen by touching on the screen with the stylus in the direction you want to move. The same way you click in the direction you want to move in diablo 2 for PC. As for combat, instead of clicking on an enemy to attack him, you would simply touch him with the stylus to land a blow. The top screen would display a far more detailed map than diablo 2 and would also display your opponets health and your health. Potions could be hotkeyed to the L and R back buttons. Drag and drop armor via touch screen, Distribute skill points with it, shop, Etc.... Basically touch takes the place of the mouse in this game.
