Realistically what they can charge is all in the packaging... This is my idea of the 'ultimate battle chest' well packaged and I have yet to decide what it should go for...

    sir,
i respect you deeply, as a person, and a gamer.
you are so positive, you dont respond to taunting, and you call
yourself out on your mistakes, even if they aren't really mitakes
but just caused some people to frown appon. its amazing how you
never said anything bad to anyone, not even a hint. i would like
to bow before you. also i envy you, and i can only hope that at
39 ill be as patient, and as well, still a gamer.

Thank you sir... I like to think that with my advanced years came patience and wisdom (along with the bigger waistline), but I can't take all the credit - its the Prozac! :thanks:

Will D3 even be going through beta testing?

Anyway I'm in the mid 2011 team. :sorcerer:

I'm pretty sure they will be beta testing it. Blizz is big believers in beta tests, lets people like us try to find all the ways to break the game that they didn't think of.

Anyway if they stay true to form it will start as small closed beta with only blizz friends/family. Once they are sure the servers are stable they will opoen it up a bit and announce a sign up on the website. Then they will select the peeps for beta keys and start going. Typically they start with a few keys and then send out more as the beta goes on.

If all goes well and they don't have to make major changes I still think they will go beta for a few months. If theres some major code they need to fix it might go 5-6. But then thats just me speculating to, and I'm not Yoda :starwars:

Okie after me an Akuma figured out it was all a misunderstanding and that were actually both okay dudes we of course started chatting about what we came here to chat about... The Game. Well he asked me an intersting question, and I think my response is close to reality, but then my reality sometimes is totally outta sink with the space-time continuum and I may be full of shit. So I thought we'd bring this out for a little open discussion... Here goes...

    He asked:
Hey, by the way when you read the article Psyxix gave us did you feel that they are in a final phase where they are getting ready to bring everything up to shipment quality? Because I definitely felt that way and I'm hoping for a before-summer 2011 release

    And I replied:
I'm actually thinking they are probably ready to start beta testing anytime. The game looks pretty polished and playable, but I suspect they are holding off on starting the beta until after Blizzcon. I think they wanna make a big splash at Blizzcon by releasing the fifth character class (which I'd bet my kidneys on it's gonna be ranged phys damage - something like the amazon).

If I had to guess they will give away a bunch of Beta keys to peeps at Blizzcon after the fifth class is unveiled, and we should see the beta starting somewhere around Haloween. Give the beta 4-6 months of solid testing, let em put a little more polsih on it and test the bnet servers, and poof it will hit the shelves. If I'm right we should be rockin by May-June of 2011.

So what do you gents think? My timeline near the mark or am I pissing in the wishing well?

    Peace!

I really look forward to seeing what they do with items in D3. D2 was a major upgrade from D1 item wise. In D1 there weren't 'rares' there was just hard to get magic items (all blue) or the occasional unique item.

Hell the hot ticket item in D1 was a blue item named GPoTW (godly plate of the whale). But there were alot of em running around because in those days anyone could dupe items just by throwing it on the ground and picking it back up the right way.

D3 brought us rares and crafted items, which were basically blues on steroids. It was sweet to have items with so many differnt stats on them, but for the most part it made blue/magic items pretty much worthless as gold had no real value and the horadric cube recipes were pretty limited.

At least in D3 the crafting will be done by disenchanting unwanted magic items so all magic items will always have some value.

But yeah if they continue the rare items eventually you'll find some cool item with the perfect combo of stats on it and it will be pretty much unique.

Probably going to depend on the item. If it is one of the uniques with set stats then there will be more of them for you to find. If its like the rare/crafted items from D2 the odds of finding that exact same stats on another item are pretty slim.

Once again thinking back to the good old days the most valuable item you could find was a dual leech ring, especially if it had good stats. I imagine with the random item generation which is a Diablo trademark there will be some combination like that that everyone will be fighting for.

Lets just hope all the good stuff isn't 'bind on pickup' but instead 'bind on equip'. At least then when you get items that totally don't fit your current character they can at least be given to alts or traded before they become bound.

As long as they go with bind on equip with items, then I think bound items will be a good thing. Gets alot of items out of the economy making their use more valuable and making players have to make hard choices to keep/trade. Better than hearing the guy say 'lemme go get my SOJ mule'.

Okay to try to clarify where I'm coming from...

Over the last few months I've been ghosting a few D3 forums. During that time I've came across what seems to be a lot of threads with people saying they expect some radical change for D3 from D2. Quite a few seem to think that the interface or the point of view needs changing. I just wanted to make a thread to discuss why people seem to want an entirely new experience in D3.

My point is if you want a new interface/point of view then you probably want a new game. True Diablo players dont want to play D3 as a first person shooter.

Jake is very right in that even a sequel should make the most of the chance they have to 'push the envelope' in their genre. I just think that while pushing things they should stay true to the roots of what got them here.

I was reading a post somewhere and some guy was complaing that D3 was still going to use the 3rd person isometric view and a similar interface to D1 & D2. It made me want to scream that if you change the view and the interface then you might as well be changing the game. Too many people think it should have a WoW style interface or maybe a first person view. IMHO they couldn't be more wrong. It would totally change the playstyle and experience that makes Diablo unique. They are probably just young and most of their experience in gaming is with thrill-kill first person shooters and that is where their comfort zone is.

It's fine if you wanna stay in your comfort zone, but if so then go get the next Battlefield installment or HALO, but don't expect any true Diablo fan to think the interface needs a radical change.
