I KNEW IT!
Not the spoiler bit, but that the female wizard was voiced by Grey DiLisle (Azula from Avatar). Perfect fit, IMO.
The rest...must resist spoiler. Must...focus...on...work.

And then the lag. BOOOO!
But seriously, how can anyone play in this? My game would pause for about 10 seconds everytime I shot and killed a zombie with my poison dart. I gave up before I even got in the New Tristram. -

Personally, I'm going for fighting heaven to primary be in the expansion, because Hell moved first. Or, it would because Heaven moved first, but Hell made the overt move and so the heroes go after them.
Either way, if they set up D3's story correctly for an expansion (and does anyone think there will not be an expansion?), then they could easily flow from fighting Demons to fighting Angels without the story being split into two "campaigns" that are just barely connected, story wise.
If that is Blizz's plan, then I hope they have some foreshadowing in the main game involving hunt down angels. It would be a great side quest (even more so if it is hidden and so if you don't find it, then you don't have a blank in the quest screening telling you as such). So we would either fight a few low level Angels, or at the end you find out the bad thing the quest is trying to fix was caused by an angel, not a demon. -

They said over and again they don't want traits to be under-powered or boring... then things like +Gold find should NOT be a trait. I really hope it's not....
Unless, of course, just maybe, gold is actually...I don't know...useful? Because, if you actually need gold, maybe this is worthwhile? -
Jul 22, 2010TheDFO posted a message on The Cosmology of Diablo: Angels and DemonsSo, I'm new here, but not to Diablo by any means (I do believe I was around to by D2 and LoD when they were knew, but that was awhile ago). And sorry for the necro post, but it somewhat fits my missive on the Angel of Death issues.Posted in: News
Anyway, I feel you all are taking "Death" as a MORTAL human would (understandable, I doubt any of you are immortal aliens), as in, "shuffle off this mortal coil." Basically, dying is something unavoidable. I very much doubt that either the Angels, or the higher up Demons, would agree. It might be a possibility, but not a necessity of living, like it is for us flesh piles.
Think of it more like this: When you clean up some space, and you find something that doesn't fit, you move it. But if the thing that doesn't fit also doesn't fit have it's place anywhere, you get rid of it. You throw out trash, swat bugs, flush waste, etc. To an Angel, Death might mean the complete erasure of time. Malthael may simply be the Angel in charge of removing things that do not have their place in the Angels idea of Order (well, at least those things that can be removed by a single angel). They felt that humans are/were abominations, and thus should be DESTROYED, as in cease to exist, erased from all of existence.
That would probably make Malthael the Angel of Death, Oblivion, Nothingness, or something else. He could possibly be the opposite of Baal. Instead of wanton destruction, he would govern the excise of unwanted things. The surgeon who removes tumors, if you will. It could also be said that he's the opposite of Mephisto, what with the orderly remove of that which does not fit being about as far from Chaos as you can get. - To post a comment, please login or register a new account.

And, this idea only examines drops vs demand created by existing characters who needed it and new characters who need it. Once you get to the 1+ year range, you're going to get people who delete characters from prolonged inactivity.
Also, not mentioned, are the multiple characters that one person will have that might want the same item. With the old way, the demand is limited to individual accounts, or maybe more than one on an account that might have two active characters that use the same item. With BoE, it's every single character that EVER wants to use that item.

I'm not sure of the last one, as I want some sort of quick melee spellcaster. I don't really want to do "martial arts" like the monk, but something like a poison/bone melee necro, or shapeshifting druid.
This is, of course, dependent on how awesome the 5th class is. I'm personally hoping for something like a ninja, where stealth is actually useful, a high damage, low hp, short range class.

I ask cause I'm thinking about getting an authenticator, but I'm not sure how useful it would be till D3 comes out.

Actually, since I'll be salaried, if I was going to take time off, it'd just be vacation time (which your excuse would be anyway), and I wouldn't need an excuse.

So, instead of a charm just going in the inventory, a lightning charm might add resists if it's shield, damage if it's sword, speed if it's boots, mana if it's armor, vision if it's helm, etc.
These things could allow for a lot of customization for each character. Do want to put points into resist magic skills? Place your talismans on your shield.
I'm not sure if I have the ideas of runes right, but I think those are things that go directly into skills, if that's how it works, then this area could be a combination of the runes/charms, without taking up space in the inventory.
That's just something I think would be cool if they did.

I agree with your second idea. I actually hope they don't make another warcraft style rts, just because of all the issues it will make with WoW. I mean, I guess you could call it a parallel universe or some such nonsense like comic books do, but why not just make a whole new world? Leave Warcraft lore to WoW and it's sequels/expansions/etc. They could even make it an RPG-RTS, like they did War3 (only more like it). That way, they have the arpg in diablo, the hardcore/retro RTS in SC, the MMO rpg in WoW, and the whatever you call warcraft3 in a new universe. That would also let people work on something they aren't tired of, cause how long can you keep creating off of one universe before it gets old and/or insane (aka, just how long can we keep killing Diablo? Or how many demon generals do we have to kill before the Burning Legion is no longer a serious threat? Or how many times can the SC universe end a game in a nice stalemate?)

Some examples of this (beyond what has been mentioned):
In War3, the hero description of the demon hunter makes it seem like there are a decent number of them, yet in game, there is only one.
In SC and Warcraft, you have the whole size issue with ships and dragons and boats and what not.
Similarly, in the story, infantry has no hope vs dragons, capital ships, tanks, ultralisks, etc, but in game, mass marines tend to counter almost all air.
Again, similar to above, in SC1, the lore about the wraith is that they were used because they could "dodge" the capital ship energy weapons, thus deal damage over time to a ship and not get killed. In game this "dodge" mechanic consists of them sitting in place and getting shot.
Why are the heroes from D1 who become D2 mini-bosses so easily killed? Blood Raven is killed by lvl 4-6's, and the false summoner is killed by lvl 12-15ish.
In D2, why exactly does the Pally voluntarily fight? He's a member of the Zakarum, shouldn't one of the corrupted leaders have said "uh, go do something else"?
Anyway, this is probably why Blizz decided that books are canon (at least, I'm pretty sure they said that), cause the writers are better at creating a coherent lore.

How's about this. Blizz just says "we don't give a flying f***" about non-spammer/ad bots. Accounts/Characters will most certainly be attached to a B.Net account, which would probably stop people from selling characters leveled with grinding bots (as you can't trade a character without attaching CD Keys). The mf grinders would be hard to stop. The only thing I can think of is to track characters who get, then get rid of (for free/cheap), and temp ban accounts that do this on a constant basis. This could be done by perhaps following accounts/character that play a lot (yes, it will get some humans), and checking how often they get items over a certain level (I'm sure there is some easy means for the comp to rank items in terms of awesome), and how often they get rid of. As Blizz seems to be saying there will be a better way of trading then dropping crap on the ground, just keep a running log of how often a character picks up awesome items, holds them for a time (so you don't accidentally flag players who drop unwanted gear in town for other teammates to pick up), then drops them.
And since you can't make new accounts without a new CD key (which are probably more controlled then they used to be), this would probably go a long way to stemming bots.
If it didn't then they could also add in a piece of code that checks the comp for known botting software. Normally I'm opposed to software like this (when it blocks pirates), because A) it will eventually be gotten around, and it harms the legitimate users, without significantly improving their gaming experience. I for one would be perfectly happy if I had to shut down some software (uTorrent, peerblock, daemon tools, winamp, etc etc) if it meant that I wouldn't have to put up with the stupid ad bots.

Okay, so you can have 1000 people with the same name on any given realm. So, if the name you want is already taken by 1000 different people, well, then you weren't going to get that name in the old games anyway, so how does that change what I said?
Also, it doesn't matter if 1000 people take Maggot in SC2, cause those names don't matter in D3.

Second, Blizz seems to be indicating that only the super awesome items are BoE. They're doing this specifically so you can't just trade them out for a new character because they don't want it to be like it is now, where everyone gets the same crap. They want people to be using different items, because the best is so rare. And they're doing that with (or, partially doing that with) BoE so that the items drop more.
Basically, I think they would rather have people play the game to get better items to the play the game, then trade to get better items. I for one am happy about that. If you're not, well, I'm sorry.
Also, you seem to have half grasped how BoE removes items from the economy. Yes, they're not destroyed, but they do not last forever. Where as before, when you changed characters, you could just trade gear out with someone else. In this case, no items where lost. And as people keep finding them (and probably duping them), there is just more and more and more. With BoE, you can't give away your old items, so that means you have to absorb MORE items. That's how it removes items from the economy. And as you can only play one char at a time, the stuff on your old barb may as well have been destroyed, as it's not doing anyone any good.
