Thought I'd show you all the next Diablo III creature sculpt I did:
I'll take some better pics soon, this pic looks more squished than it actually is.

AbsoluteZero posted a message on help with graphics card choice... and introductionPosted in: General Discussion (non-Diablo)Quote from "SpanishBard" »Well I'm just glad you put that much effort into your first response without being asked or criticized. Oh wait.....
Hey you made up for your mistake. Congratulations. This can be dropped now. So for future reference, just spend a little more time on what the requester needs. Not what you prefer. Ok? Lesson learned, case closed.
Yes this can be dropped...but I am not gonna be the only one to walk away with a lesson....I think you should chill when it comes to your responses and I am saying this not to start more arguing but I have taken my verbal bombardment from you, and now it is your turn. Don't disrespect someone with good intentions....you doing so was just as reckless as me being vague in my response. I never once took a personal shot at you, simply because I don't know you..and even if you do not like the place that I work that is your opinion..and so be it..but don't vilify me for working there. I don't believe in judging somebodies character unless you really know them. you saying you know me and what type of person I am by the way I post to one thread..is like me saying I know how you are..and then boom fire off with the stereotypes...hmm his name is spanish bard he is from spain I bet...hmm probably likes bull fights...hmm....he is quick to jump the gun with his accusations..hmm must have a short temper..probably is the type of guy who punches a whole through a wall for his anger issues...hmm his self esteem must be low so he makes up for it by putting others down. see that wouldn't have been cool would it? In any case this discussion is over with...THE END  -

Atrumentis posted a message on Φ Diablo Books Chronological OrderThis is the chronological order of all the Diablo novels.Posted in: Lore & Storyline
What is important to note is that they do not have to be read in this order. The only books that depend on previous books are the Sin War trilogy (which should be read in order) and the Kingdom of Shadow and Moon of the Spider, of which KoS should be read first and MotS should be read second. All other books can be read in any order without having any detriemental effect on the plot or story or spoiling anything.
- The Sin War: Birthright
- The Sin War: Scales of the Serpent
- The Sin War: The Veiled Prophet
- Demonsbane
- The Black Road / Diablo I
- Legacy of Blood / Diablo II
- The Kingdom of Shadow / Diablo II
- Moon of the Spider
Demonsbane happens 600 years before the Horadrim capture the Prime Evils and therefore before the Dark Exile. (The Horadrim capture the Prime Evils a long time before the darkening of Tristram in Diablo I).
The Black Road story expands over a year. Kabraxis is unleashed at some point at the beginning of the book, and over a year later (at the end of the book) is defeated. Towards the end of that year's gap it is stated that Tristram was recently destroyed by Diablo. It is also stated by Deckard Cain that Tristram was corrupted for nearly four years. So Tristram fell before Kabraxis was released, but the actual Diablo I game where Tristram is 'saved' happens in the middle of this novel, before Kabraxis is defeated.
Legacy of Blood is parallel with or slightly before Diablo II and involves the , ends with Diablo (the Wanderer) entering AranochArcane Sanctuary. Which means it happens just before the Diablo II hero enters Lut Gholein or while the hero is still at the Rogue Encampment, depending on the time gap following the Wanderer.
The Kingdom of Shadow happens before the Moon of the Spider but no mention of the Worldstone, so it is assumed that this book also takes place before it is destroyed (whereas MotS specifically mentions the destruction of the Worldstone). Zayl traveled from Ureh to Westmarch and would have likely to have had to pass through the Rogue Monastary (apparently the only path to Westmarch if traveling through the twin seas, which Zayl likely would have done). With Andariel and many other demons out and about during DII, and no mention of a hazardous journey to Westmarch, it is unlikely that he was traveling during the events of Diablo II, but was actually in Ureh at the time. Its more likely that Zayl left Ureh to travel to Westmarch after Diablo II, which means that The Kingdom of Shadow must have happened parallel to Diablo II and the destruction of the Worldstone.
Moon of the Spider takes place after the Worldstone is destroyed in Diablo II. It also talks about Zayl's past in the city of Ureh, placing this book as a direct sequel to The Kingdom of Shadow (no time gap is given, however). -

Diablo III Official Announcement:
SourceBlizzard Entertainment, Inc. today revealed Diablo III, the newest entry in its critically acclaimed action role-playing-game franchise. The announcement was made during the 2008 Blizzard Entertainment Worldwide Invitational at the Porte de Versailles Convention Centre in Paris, France. A cinematic trailer and an extended gameplay demonstration with commentary from the development team introduced the game to the thousands of players in attendance.
"We've wanted to expand on the epic story and gameplay elements of the Diablo universe for some time now," stated Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment. "We know that players have also been long awaiting a return to the series, so we're very excited to be sharing this announcement with Blizzard gamers here in Paris and around the world today."
Diablo III will pick up the story twenty years after the events of Diablo II. Mephisto, Diablo, and Baal have been defeated, but the Worldstone, which once shielded the inhabitants of the world of Sanctuary from the forces of both the High Heavens and the Burning Hells, has been destroyed, and evil once again stirs in Tristram. Playing as a hero from one of five distinct character classes, players will acquire powerful items, spells, and abilities as they explore new and familiar areas of Sanctuary and battle hordes of demons to safeguard the world from the horrors that have arisen. The first two characters classes -- the barbarian and the witch doctor -- were shown as part of the announcement at the event today in Paris. Diablo III will feature a custom 3D-graphics engine to render lush indoor and outdoor areas of Sanctuary with a high level of detail and vivid special effects. The game's physics-enhanced environments will be interactive and destructible, offering traps and obstacles that create added danger for players and monsters alike. These elements, along with a new quest system and random scripted events, will be integrated into the game's random-level generator, giving Diablo III the ultimate combination of dynamic gameplay and replayability. Cooperative and competitive play will be available online through an upgraded version of Blizzard Entertainment's renowned online gaming service, Battle.net.
Diablo III FAQ:
SourceWhat is Diablo III?
We’re developing Diablo III to be the definitive action role-playing game, and a true continuation of the Diablo series. Players will create a hero from one of five distinct classes, such as barbarian or witch doctor, each equipped with an array of spells and abilities. As these heroes adventure through rich and varied settings, unraveling an epic storyline and engaging in combat with hordes of monsters and challenging bosses, they’ll grow in experience and ability and acquire items of incredible power.
The game takes place on Sanctuary, a world of dark fantasy. Unbeknownst to most of its inhabitants, Sanctuary was saved some twenty years ago from the demonic forces of the underworld by a few brave and powerful heroes. Most of those warriors who directly faced the armies of the Burning Hells -- and were fortunate enough to survive -- went mad from their experiences. And most of the others have buried their haunted memories and pushed the horrors from their thoughts. In Diablo III, players will return to Sanctuary to confront evil in its many forms once again.
Diablo III will be a fitting sequel to Diablo II, with the easy interface, fast-paced action, and visceral gameplay that Diablo players have come to expect and enjoy. It will also include many new features that will take the Diablo action-RPG experience to the next level. We look forward to going into much more detail on our plans for Diablo III as development on the game progresses.
What’s new about Diablo III compared to the previous Diablo games?
Exciting new classes like the witch doctor bring new gameplay options to the table. Returning classes, like the barbarian, have been completely redone with new skills to give them a feel unique to Diablo III. New customization options will provide for an even greater level of character specialization than the previous Diablo games, allowing the player to create unique characters brimming with power.
Diablo III is powered by a new graphics engine that can display characters and hordes of monsters in lush, fully 3D environments. Powerful special-effects systems and Havok-powered physics allow the player to lay waste to the Hells' minions in spectacular ways.
Also, Diablo III builds on the random environments of the previous Diablo games by introducing a host of new ways to create random scripted events throughout the game. This creates a dense and exciting world alive with quests, NPCs, dynamic encounters, and viciously challenging new monsters and bosses. Diablo III's environments add a great deal of interactivity to the game, including destructible elements and environmental obstacles that can be turned against your enemies.
In addition, Diablo III will benefit from Battle.net upgrades that will provide some exciting new features for players. Cooperative online play remains a primary focus, with multiple enhancements being planned to make connecting with your friends easier and cooperative gameplay even more fun. We'll have more details on all these aspects as well as other exciting new features at a later date.
Can you give an overview of Diablo III's storyline?
It has been twenty years since the events of Diablo II. Of those who faced the Lords of Hatred, Terror, and Destruction in the battle over the fate of Sanctuary, there are few still living who can bear to remember the horrors that the Prime Evils wrought upon the world. And of those who did not witness the terrible events firsthand, most believe the stories to be little more than myth. But something evil is stirring once again in Tristram, and it may already have claimed its first victim: Deckard Cain.
Will there be any other familiar faces in Diablo III (other than Deckard Cain)?
Yes. Players will encounter several new characters as well as a number of characters from the previous games.
Will players be visiting any familiar locations in Diablo III, such as Tristram?
Yes, definitely. Players will return to Tristram and certain other locations from the previous games, and they'll be exploring new areas of Sanctuary as well.
How many character classes are included in Diablo III? What are they?
Five character classes will be included in the game, two of which, the barbarian and witch doctor, were revealed when the game was announced at the 2008 Blizzard Entertainment Worldwide Invitational. The other classes will be announced at a later date.
Will players be able to choose the gender of their character, regardless of class?
Yes. Players will be able to create male and female characters for all five classes.
Will Diablo III be playable over Battle.net? What new features can we expect?
Yes, Diablo III will be playable over Battle.net, and Battle.net will offer some exciting new features to enhance players' Diablo III experience. We'll announce specifics and go into much more detail at a later date.
Will there be a single-player component in addition to multiplayer?
Yes. In addition to battling the hordes of the Burning Hells cooperatively with friends over Battle.net, players will be able to adventure through the world of Diablo III solo. More details on both the single-player and multiplayer experience will be revealed at a later date.
What will questing be like in Diablo III? Will it be similar to Diablo II?
Our plans for the story and quest mechanics are still under wraps. We'll go into detail on those elements of the game at a later date. We can say, however, that we expect to have class-based quests in addition to the main story-line quests.
TECHNICAL ASPECTS
What engine is Diablo III running on? What graphical enhancements are included?
Diablo III runs on a custom 3D game engine for rendering full-3D characters and environments. The 3D game engine not only simulates advanced animation sequences and sound effects, but also uses a custom physics engine that allows for realistic object dynamics and cloth simulation.
What are the system requirements for Diablo III?
We'll announce specific system requirements at a later date.
RELEASE PLANS
When will Diablo III be released?
It's too early to estimate Diablo III's release date. As with all Blizzard Entertainment games, our goal is to create a game that is as fun, balanced, and polished as possible. We intend to take as much time developing Diablo III as is necessary to ensure the game meets our own high expectations and those of our players.
Will the game be released in multiple countries? Will the release be simultaneous? Which countries and what languages will Diablo III be localized in?
As with all of our games, our goal with Diablo III is to release the game simultaneously in as many regions as possible, and to localize the game in several languages. We'll have more details to share about countries, languages, and specific dates as we get closer to release.
Will Diablo III be available on Windows and Mac simultaneously?
Yes. As with all of Blizzard Entertainment's recent releases, Diablo III will ship for both Windows and Mac simultaneously.
How much will Diablo III cost? Where can I buy this game? Pricing and availability for Diablo III will be determined and announced closer to the release of the game.
Diablo III Tidbits:
Diablo III Barbarian Profile & Gameplay Movie:
Bits and pieces from the post-announcement press conference:- No release date as of yet.
- Development in its "early stages" despite being underway for over four years.
- Brand new in-house engine developed for Diablo III. Includes Havoc physics.
- Co-op is fully integrated into the game's design.
- Will also be released on Mac.
- Similar in length to Diablo II.
- Takes place twenty years after Diablo II expansion pack.
- Only fifty people working on the game at the moment. Content creation the current focus.
- New Battle.net will debut with StarCraft II. Even more features by the time Diablo III launches.
- No console release of Diablo III planned. Other Blizzard title staying on PC and Mac also.
- Pay to play? Totally undecided, though it could vary between regions. For example, China may because of the popularity of internet cafes and the strict gaming laws that are meant to prevent people becoming addicted.
- Could be up to 100 enemies on-screen at a time.
- The ice splash page malarkey was Diablo all along, ditto on the eyes. I am vindicated. The penguin remains a mystery, however.
- Hellgate: London-esque randomness is in, to an extent. Some maps and what have yous will be static.
- Low-spec [computer] losers are being catered to.
- World of Warcraft and The Legend of Zelda heavily influenced boss design and boss gameplay mechanics.
- E-Sports support is a possibility. Team is attempting to form a business plan that works for that crowd.
- No character customisation, just gender selection.
- PvP will likely be included at release.
- Voice communication will be improved.
- Beta is a possibility.
- "Potions are still in the game, they're just not as core an element. So there's a new health system here. Wilson says he actually tried a Halo-style shield system with regenerative health, but didn't put that in because it encouraged players to leave combat. Didn't want to implement a WoW-style health which encourages players to drink and creates downtime when out of combat. Wilson wants the health system to ensure combat, which is health globes were implemented."
- One health pot restores all players in co-op.
- Enemies can miss and get weapons stuck in scenery or world.
- Player characters will be fully voice acted.
- Four-to-five person co-op groups.
SourceDiablo III's tank profiled:
In my journey to catalogue the various denizens, civilizations, and fauna of our world, I have traveled far and wide, but never before have I been struck with such dismay as when standing upon the ramparts of the ancient fortress of Bastion's Keep. I came to see firsthand the barbarians, those near-legendary, immense, relentless, dual-wielding furies of combat dwelling upon their sacred Mount Arreat.
Instead, I stand here looking at a mountain that has been torn asunder by some extraordinary force. The sight, I must confess, is incomprehensible. Yet what I see before me cannot be denied.
What truly happened here? Where are those majestic warriors of old?
Though they were once misunderstood as simple, bloodthirsty invaders, the long and noble history of these proud people is now rightly acknowledged. And therein lies the greater tragedy here, for those of us familiar with the nobility of the barbarians remember too what they call their "vigil", the concept that lay at the very heart of their culture. The barbarians consider it their sworn duty to protect Mount Arreat and the mysterious object within. They believe that if they fail to uphold their duty to the great mount, or are not given a proper burial upon its slopes, they will be denied a true warrior's death, and their spirits shall roam the land without honor for all eternity. If there are any barbarians left alive, they must truly be without hope. Perhaps this is the genesis of the rumors of monstrous things reported to resemble the barbarians in size and ferocity, but that are in reality nothing more than unreasoning, inhuman beasts. Could the destruction of not only their home but also their very beliefs have actually brought this magnificent race so low?
Diablo III Witch Doctor Profile & Gameplay Movie:
Source
Most believe the fearsome witch doctor of the umbaru race a legend, but I have seen one in battle with my own eyes. And it was difficult to believe, even then. He dispatched his opponent with terrifying precision, assaulting his victim's mind and body with elixirs and powders that evoked fires, explosions, and poisonous spirits. As if these assaults were not enough, the witch doctor also had at his command the ability to summon undead creatures from the netherworld to rend the flesh from his enemy's body.
I came upon this rare display as I ventured deep into the interior of the dense Torajan jungles that cover the southern tip of the great eastern continent, in the vast area known as the Teganze, with the goal of seeking out the tribes that reside there. This area is extremely secluded, and heretofore unseen by foreign eyes. I was fortunate to befriend the witch doctor I saw in battle, and, through him, his tribe: the Tribe of the Five Hills.
The culture of the umbaru of the lower Teganze is fascinating and perplexing to those hailing from more civilized walks of life. For instance, the Tribe of the Five Hills frequently engages in tribal warfare with both the Clan of the Seven Stones and the Tribe of the Clouded Valley, but these are matters of ritual and not of conquest. I had heard tales that these wars are waged in order that the victors may replenish their supply of raw materials for the human sacrifices that their civilization revolves around, and when I timidly asked my hosts more about this topic, I must admit their laughter made me fear for my safety. However, through stumbled attempts at communication of such complex topics as what constitutes heroism and honor in their society, I gathered that only those taken in battle are considered worthy of the ritual sacrifice, much to my relief.
Upon further discussions with my hosts, I discovered that these tribes define themselves by their belief in the Mbwiru Eikura, which roughly translates to "The Unformed Land" (this is an imprecise translation, as this concept is completely foreign to our culture and language). This belief holds that the true, sacred reality is veiled behind the physical one we normally experience. Their vitally important public ceremonies are centered upon sacrifices to the life force that flows from their gods, who inhabit the Unformed Land, into this lesser physical realm.
The witch doctors are finely attuned to this Unformed Land and are able to train their minds to perceive this reality through a combination of rituals and the use of selected roots and herbs found in the jungles. They call the state in which they interact with this other world the Ghost Trance.
Alongside the primacy of the belief in the life force and the Unformed Land, the second most sacred belief of the tribes is their philosophy of self-sacrifice and non-individuality, of suppressing one's self-interest for the good of the tribe. This idea, so foreign to our culture, struck me as something I wished to delve into much more deeply. Unfortunately, there was intense social upheaval among the tribes due to an incident involving their most current war (inasmuch as I could discern in the ensuing bedlam), and the charged atmosphere warranted my quick departure before I could ask anything further of my hosts.
Diablo III Story Revealed:
Diablo III takes place twenty years after the Lord of Destruction Diablo II expansion pack:
Two decades have passed since the demonic denizens, Diablo, Mephisto, and Baal, wandered the world of Sanctuary in a vicious rampage to shackle humanity into unholy slavery. Yet for those who battled the Prime Evils directly, the memory fades slowly and the wounds of the soul still burn. When Deckard Cain returns to the ruins of Tristram's Cathedral seeking clues to new stirrings of evil, a comet from the heavens strikes the very ground where Diablo once entered the world. The comet carries a dark omen in its fiery being and it calls the heroes of Sanctuary to defend the mortal world against the rising powers of the Burning Hells – and even the failing luminaries of the High Heavens itself.
A list of game features has also been made available:
- Explore a fully-realized Sanctuary – the living, breathing gothic fantasy world of Diablo III rendered in gorgeous 3D.
- Battle the unholy forces of the Burning Hells with all-new character classes like the otherworldly Witch Doctor, or with re-imagined warriors from Diablo’s past: such as the fierce Barbarian.
- Rain Hell on your enemies wielding the interactive environment as a weapon: lay cunning traps, turn destructible objects against your foes, and use environmental obstacles to your advantage - all powered by the Havoc physics system.
- Experience the intensity of multiplayer Diablo III over an all-new, wickedly-enhanced Battle.net platform with numerous enhancements to make connecting with your friends easier – and cooperative gameplay more fun.

FREE SHOW ENDING!
DIABLO3 GAMEPLAY PANEL:
Starting With the Diablo 3 original Cinematic teaser.
Jay Wilson:;A hero emerges - A lot of new info. named everyone at the panel.
Talk a lot about Demon hunter.
Why Demon hunter? Fills out Archetypes. Earliest Classes, very different at first.
Fits Diablo universe, almost obsessed anti-hero
Bounty Hunter:
Conventional Ranged class
Gadgets and traps!
Shadow Magic - really likes to dabble in anything that makes her more effectiveat hunting enemies including dark magic. Knows more about Demons than anyoneelse in the Diablo Universe.
Brief History Of Demon Hunter- Early on knew Ranger - First Class - Took Alotof Work -
Early Concepts "Woodland Ranger"
Most Feel Ranged and Swift so they added an Edge to the Character.
How to make it cool -Something was missing; Added melee aspects, small daggersfist weapons and other small weps, then turned into more of a melee class.
They said Take a Break and go Back to The Basics.
New Direction - DARK With the announcement of monk they wanted an opposite.
Something Mysterious- they didn't want you to know about her a lot.
Wanted to pay more tribute to Diablo 2 and made it more medieval.
Demon Hunter was Born
Demonic Demon Hunter? But it has to be human to pit it against the hordesofhell
Part Demon? Townspeople would recoil, when he or she enters and tries to buy/sellgoods.
Losing ranged feel, feels strong but slow. and the Arm implied melee due tosize.
Part Demon? redesigned Dual Xbows, more ranged and swifter. People playingwanted to use it so they scrapped it.
A hero is Born! - Fast Swift - Mysterious - Dark (anti-hero)- Medieval-Ranged.\
Now For 3d Modeling
Art Hits the mark sexy character. Wanted to be physically attractive. Workingon the male demon now, so It isn't finished yet. Hit the ranged Archetype andwas definitely Darker than all the other Classes. Looks badass too.
How to gear her up? What makes Her visually Distinct?
Scarf, Running with her you will see her flowing clothe,
Legs you'll be able to see and arm guards make her "pop!" more.
Her "naked look" before any gearing up. Made poses to capture thefeel of the character. Pissed off vibe
There is a final model for the female at least.
Kicks ass in heels has full body poses for skills and different things.
Now For Lore behind the Demon Hunter
Demon hunter is most Diverse Class. Not just one type of person really fromanywalk of life and are chosen not born into their place. Want revenge forDeathof family and friends from demons, recruited by Demon Hunters. Do have abasein Borderlands where they train recruits. Basic bounty hunter/ ranger class+ Epic quest = badass winning class to play.
What Drives her?
The obsessed Hero will do whatever necessary to take out demons from sanctuary.
Really wanted to show she’s not afraid to get her hands dirty and demonic.
Glowingeyes to show she probably messed in areas that she shouldn't have.
Stalkerof Demons, wants to strike fear in demons with traps and Gadgets.
Realizesthe true stakes for what's going on. WD and Monk is in it for religious ideals,Barb is for his People, Wizard for Herself, Demon hunter to hunt demons.
Shedoesn’t want hell to get a foothold in sanctuary.
Skills
Bola Shot -Sells Two themes Ranged and Gadgets and feels tactical.
Vault- Movement Skill Shadow Themed. Tired and True mechanic.
Spike Trap - Gadgets and Shadow. Feels like Assy traps, feels like youhaveasense of preparation she’s someone who "dreams of killingDemons"
Grenades - Gadgets, ranged. Bounce able off of walls and floors.Cleverlyplanned theme
Multi-shot - from D2 amped up and revamped for D3. Artified up formoreappropriate design
New skill system design, new trait system, Talisman details and more skills
Skill UI - cons - over wielding and overwhelming (old theme) encouraged toowide skill choices.
Tab system basically D2 tree but people often used the first tab they used toomuch and not enough all other tabs.
List approach, sort of like Wow
Current UI - same as List approach but with a larger right side to show allavailable skills better.
New system
Leveling up unlocks slots. 7 Slots are used for getting new skills. Blinkingplus sign means you can upgrade the skill.
Barb wanted more strength
Wizard brought back meteor - classic skill re envisioned
WD- Spirit Walk - mobility but different than teleport- selling the spirit andvoodoo themes, become ethereal and walks through anything but walls.
Monk - wave of Light - evoke imagery, both barb and monk melee, combines mysticarts with martial arts. Mystical bell that he fires off is very vivid.
TRAITS
New system Traits.
What are they? Passive skills essentially.
Diversifythe builds.
Gainedevery other level.
Altercore attributes and mechanics of the class. Opportunity to add flavor to thegame world.
Eachhas a small lore text.
Not universal Traits, some make sense but some do not.
Trait ex: Inner rage (barb) cool name text that tells you about it. More power
Wizard - Prismatic Cloak, all armor spells more powerful, Some flavor textthathelps you. HAH A RAINBOW FLIES ACROSS THE SCREEN!
Why Traits? Character Customization please old fans and turn new fans.
"Strong Barb"
"Berserker Barb"
Active Vs Passive
More variety
Making the numbers awesome - not weird number very cool number like 100 or200%armor increase, Not done yet though
To Do List for traits:
UI not awesome
too grocery list style
Gaining a point every other level doesn't feel right
Too many ranks of each or too many actual traits.
TALISMAN:
Talks first about Charms yadda yadda yah - usual old charm system. They likedthe system and the charms but hated to little inventory.
A dedicated Inventory for your charms. Grows over time. more than you canhandle so you do still have to choose which you want.
How have charms evolved?
Charms will be more focused on core attributes for better customization
Different tiers of charms.
RUNES:
playable at show fully implemented in WD, barb, and Wiz.
System for modifying skills.
Customization - usual thinking is different color body or hair style
wants to make Skills more customizable than ever.
How many build : A SHITload of Builds. 96,886,969,344 (PER CLASS)WITHJUSTSKILLS NOT WITH TRAITS DYES CHARMS.
Don't just change what it does, changes the look also. Felt weak without thegraphic change. A lot of people liked the skills with Graphic changes to use.
Change the number under the skills. or Have a bunch of Zombie bears run acrossthe screen
5 rune types: Crimson, Indigo, Obsidian, Golden, Alabaster.
5 mouth watering flavors. Types are loosely Themed.
Golden w/ poison dart - mana regen
Obsidian - slows down enemy
Indigo - rapid fire

ARENAS :
First approach to PVP
Dedicated place for all dueling needs. A lot of Diablo 2 was dueling.
Didn't support it in Diablo 2 well.
From beginning wanted something for PVP
Overview
focus on team play, and want a mix of everything.
Arena about Perfect PvP characters. Build a PvE char into a PvP monster.
Class abilities- Blizzard, zombie bears, meteor. Work great across PvP or PvE. Somebuilt for PvP
PvE game has a lot of control, but didn't want PvP didn't want to be aboutcrowd control instead Counter, to make moves. A lot of comboing will helpyou out.
Round 1 wasn't enough so it's a best of 3 or best of 5, want feedback on that
Battle.net matchmaking, skill based, trying to find out a way custombased.Really working on Custom games. Progression based ranking system. SC2 moreabout getting a rank. Diablo more about getting point to progress your rank, toshow how dedicated you are for PvP, losers also get points.
STARCRAFTII SECRETS OF THE MASTER:
All about : How to improve your game.
Get to know the Battle.net system. How does the automatic matchmaking work?Others want to know how they can get better.
Auto-Matchmaking system: Adaptive learning system, more you play the moreaccurate they match you with people. Your skills vs. Opponents skill isimportant, All about winning not how you play. Cheap and easy victory againstsomeone easy doesn't count as much as winning against a really hard player.Skill rating system, determined by three numbers. Winning more means you getmore harder opponents, and opposite likewise. The skill rating doesn't wipebetween the seasons, and is not to be confused with ladder points. Skill pointsper MM. such as 1v1, FFA, 2v2, 3v3. Different rating for each team you have. How you do with one friend is different from with another friend even in thesame MM type. Playing with Newbie friends doesn't affect any of your otherratings. First five matches is where you get slotted into a league and division.Distributed population. @ 20% diamond is top 20% and bronze is worst20%.Leaguedivision does not mean you are limited to fight only your leaguedivision. It is slowly and gradually ramped up so you get better and better ifyou get put into diamond from platinum. Your rank criteria is not Wins/lossesit’s about the points you learn. Fighting a harder opponent gives you morepoints. Bonus points is like rested XP in Wow going on a vacation will allowyou to come back and get some extra XP to get back in the game and get back towhere you should be. They only promote when they are ready and initial leagueplacement is conservative. Balancing leagues and ladder system is likebalancing units, constantly upgrading to enhance the experience. There are abunch of changes already that have happened. Such as enhanced matchmaking moreprecise to skill. New previews for more November -December time frame some fromJanuary – Feb time frame. League icons will be improved. New art into UI todenote how high you are in your League, as you get higher you get a coolerartwork. New details to the Leagues and Ladders UI so that it looks nicer whenyou get higher up in rank. Moving to Season 2, announcing ahead of time, wipingthe ladders and division placement and enabling you to go back and check whatyour final placement in season 1 was, and you won't have to redo everything allyou have to do is play 1 match in the next season in any game type to be re-ranked.Master league is the top of Diamond about top 5% gets their own special leagueicons. The Grand Master League is the top 200 Battle.net players in your region. For your special league you get to check out that league and look at thembecause for now you can only see your own stats or your friends stats. Buildfeatured replays inside SC2. You will be able to go into the news; communityarea and click a new tab to watch replay's and immediately watch it.
Pros here, they play ladders and custom games a lot. They play guys that arealmost their skill level to get better against them and try out new strategies, find this person to enhance how you play and what you do to play better. Theyplay 12 + hours a day. They are made not born because they play a lot to betterthemselves. Practice makes perfect and you should try to better yourself asmuch as possible. Pick a race you are naturally good at, If they aren't playingthey study. They study replays against opponents. If you're on a losing streaktake a break so you don't get worse, go back and study so that you can comeback the next day and get better. No pain no gain, keep it up and don't stopplaying. Lose a couple of close games and then you might lose a lot because youneed to focus on your winning and making yourself psychologically strong so youdon’t get down on yourself. Use the community to help yourself watch replaysand check out what they say and do. If you are not attacking you are probablyusing. Don’t sit back and watch, force your opponent to react to your moves notto his moves. Copy strategies if you can, focus on your mistakes it makes youlearn a ton of new info in lost games.
Focus on what works for you. it makes you find a new technique that works foryou and can help you out. Don't try to be the pros, try to make yourself yourown pro.
Always build workers they make you have a bigger army which then provides youwith a better counter. Spend a lot of resources you might as well it'll helpwhen you can make all those units and destroy your enemy.
2 ways to build refineries, you should build refineries into your build,Strategize if you know you need a lot of gas make 2 if you need a little onlymake 1. Expand far out with a big army expand closely with a smaller an army.
In steppes of war watch for rushes close rushing distance.
Scrap yard, quick air distance which means easier air attacks.
Choke points in front of your base should be utilized.
Expansion - lost temple Choke points in front of the natural expansions aregood place to cover, and they make for easier expansions.
COMBAT: Terrain
choke points, Walls, high ground, etc.
Using terrain properly can help you. A lot of enemies can create terrain; theones in the front can block the ones in the back making it easier for you tokill. Split up your units, flank and get around the opponent.
Micro manage not a lot though cause then the opponent can make a lot more unitsand you won’t have any extra units to send.
Counters Soft counters - marines vs. zealots pretty even
hard counters Marines vs. colossi but using the right technique will help youout.
Proxy rush, useful against greater skill than you. Only need to memorize onebuild. Cannon rush use pylons to block off the base. All in rush use one buildorder and then make a huge rush with all that you have. SC2PANEL FOR CUSTOM MAPS AND MODS:
Created for the community not for what they like. their goal is to improve theeditor and how you customize maps. Even game types. Custom heroesand custom abilities. Inventory systems. DOTAMAPS. PUZZLE MAPS. Manydifferent game types. UI maker. Tried to make it easier. a bigger focus.
How they approach the design of the maps:
First and foremost the fun factor or the mission of the map. Important so youcan concentrate your energy into the fun factor, and when you put too many funfactors in you dilute the fun.
Easy to Learn- big tutorial and it helps you find out how to make all the stuffeasily. The thrill is to make things that are fun for you.
Tower Defense: timer units come when timer hits zero and you have to have moretowers for better defense clearly.
Feedback is incredibly important. You think your map is done. No go online andget direct feedback.
Left 2 Die:
Co-op Campaign Mission (the one with the Zombies)
People love killing Zombies.
Inspiration from Left 4 Dead 2.
Changes to special zombies so they are special.
Zerg Biomass is a resource tool. Destruction of infested structures and specialzombies. It is a tradable resources and is shared between the two players. Itis used for upgrades and tech research. Designed for everyone.
There is a story of what is going on and why before the game starts. Also 4difficulties in the game.
Word of advice Make it easy for everyone because being too difficult makes itsfrustrating to newbies.
Aiur Chef:
Play as a protoss zealot warrior chef, collect resources for recipes and theperson with the highest point is winner between 8 people.
Blizzard DOTA:
Inspiration goes back to original SC Aion of Strife map. That inspired DOTA andthat influenced this Blizzard DOTA.
2 evenly matched teams’ 5v5 heroes who tip the balance one way or another, andcan level up and get new abilities and items. Only requires one hero so youdon't have to macro manage awhile army. Iconic Blizzard heroes like zeratul, and the master of blades, Muradin.
No official release date. The Blizzcon demo is the beta basically.
During a Small interview at the desk a questionwas asked… Will Diablo be brought to the console’s. The answer was It iscompletely possible but they aren’t striving for
A SPECIAL INTERVIEW WITH JAY WILSON AT THE DESK:
Some small words onthe Demon Hunter. They like it like the character look and feel. They neededthat archetype and they had the ranger idea and the first three announcedclasses , the wiz, barb, and WD, for four years.
When will the beta be released? 6 months before releaseNothing will be released until beta.
Any class specific quests? No, No one wanted to do the classspecific quest. But each class has a “character” Hook- Lore book- Item abouteach specific class, some background info and what not.
They don’t want to tone down skills but add what is missing.
No E-Sports because it is not Uber balanced and won’t be,The didn’t feel Diablo 2 was good enough with PvP so they thought of it fromthe Start.
Pre made maps or random maps for PvP
Pre made but theyhave different modes.
What is the current state of the game?
Very close to completing core features. The whole game hassome issues some things don’t flow or work well. It is more than 50% completefor sure. Game layout is complete from beginning to end. There are rough areassay at a boss it will not move and one attack will let you kill it, but thegame is fully walk able from beginning to end.

DAY 2
DIABLO 3CRAFTING SANCTUARY PANEL:
Jay: talking about the lore behind this game thestandard 20 years ago yadda yadda ya. Today they'll talk about how they build theworld under siege first story then environment and other items. Very fast paced game clicking everything thatmoves and destroying it. Action storytelling: Play don't tell, they wantus to experience the story not tell us. Referencing the Diablo 2 intro conversationas a bad example. length 1:04 minutes Monsters killed : 0 Loot gained: 0 Story:all. You don't want to watch you want to kill andblow monsters head off. About to show a video of actual demo footageabout how they changed this. Aimed to tell the story by allowing youto play it. Not long talks. When possible, allow you to play whileyou hear. Conversations go on during fights and walks instead of having to staystill and talk. Opt-in storytelling: More info, more lore, morein-depth. The player can experience it when they want to. Using lore books, items found in the world that when clicked on have an audio play telling loreand story behind it while you walk around and kill monsters, which doesn't slowdown game play. The example used is a book from King Leoric. Not just using newstory but filling out previous storylines as well. A perfect story is a siege. Everyone understandsit instantly. Diablo 3 is killing monsters and getting loot. They are about toshow us bastions keep and its walls being sieged by the most demons ever. Theydon't want to make you do things, they want to say heres a siege you do it hwoyou want to do it. Clearing out dungeons is still a key component and now feelscooler when you are saving all of humanity. They always had a siege idea. They alwaysthought of a battleship so they knew what direction hey wanted. Instead ofarchers to be harpoon type guns like a battleship and instead ofsquare or circle towers they used triangles to be like the bow of aship. Simple materials, Iron strong and sturdy That was first pass, initial impressions, refining the initial, they felt that it was too simple so they went to the ironmade it darker blockier lighter stone darker iron so contrast is better. After that they get images ready for modelers. They try to cram as much info as possible into one image. They use many thingsin one image and then split up the image and make a lot of small modular parts. The interior, More warm inviting feeling insidebecause everyones okay on the inside at the beginning. From triangles tosquares so they aren't as threatening, also iron to wood because wood is warmenough. They put more weapons inside to show how the soldiers are gettingready. When they get a concept, the environment teamhas a meeting on how to get them into in game concepts. From the pictures shownthey had a lot to work with. Quick video on a Gray box version. Basicallyfiguring out the big static objects with no color and it's sort of a test. Then they put into materials. Wood stone andthey made it feel warmer than the outside, unique because they had to make theinterior different from the outside while keeping them unique. Then they add indestructible's and lighting effects and particle effects. Obviously game is for killing monsters and loot.So going through the area you don't just keep moving you stop and look atchests or kick in a barely to see if it is loot or a skeleton. So they populate the word prettyevenly. All of them are hand placed and in rational positions. Treasure chestsin libraries and storages. Corpses are in battlefield or places withconflict. Mini dungeons: changes of scenery, introducesnew monsters. This is where the monsters come from. rewarding explorationexperience. Also great opportunity to introduce story elements. always anopportunity to tell story. Events: walk through a swamp and boom zombiesmight pop out of the ground. Brings the world to life, Unique enemies and makesthe world hazardous, another story element. A lot of attention is put into breakableobjects. First it is fun to break things, kill monsters and come back then killthe furniture. World feels more real. Objects can tell a story. What lives in this world? Combinations of monster's, and what makes thisdungeon different from the last one. If the dungeon is littered with fallen andnothing else and no treasure it is boring. They try to mix it up and mix bigwith little enemies, there’s the caster, the ranged guy, so you are always onyour toes. Monsters how do you make them? Each team gets a monster and they make what theywant the monster to fill; (swarmer, debuff) How does it behave? Does model work? Test new Ideas. They debate a lot of things very simple thingslike spending hours on toenails. After all the debate and they put it in the gameand test it. They give it a behavior and give it an"epic death" experience; all monsters die a different way so it ismore personal and satisfying. Monster behavior and A.I Grave digger monster, humanoid, attack with ashovel. Start with an idle state digging wanderingdigging Then get close and it is a suspicious mode, hehas heard something looks around suspicious then get close and they attack. What did they learn? Normal enemies have very short life spans; theywant you to mow through normal enemies to make you feel powerful. Non combat behavior doesn't want to be seen, they want you to be constantly killing going in head on. Spawning animations are meant to becool, bursting out of barrels and walking up walls. The second important thingis the death they want you to watch it forever. The third important thing isthat they don't want the monsters to get at you , example is fallen vs.DH, DH needs to move back the fallen always comes at you. So whatthey did was they delayed him just a bit so you can actually kill them and helpyou out. Taunting is another technique to help you somedon't come at you so you can attack them not them attack you. Another isrunning near you to scare you. Also typical fallen A.I they run when one ofthem dies. They really want you to go in and destroy everything in sight.
NOW ONTO ARMOR SETS: Want to come up with a lot ofvariety showing a barb armor high leveled, and it is very ornate for a barb.
They want to give you a lot of choices but theywant you to have that feel of the character they don't want to diverge formthat.
WD scary
Barb Strong
They want you to be able to see yourself from thegame camera, so that you know this is you.
they are mainly showing off brand new nice highleveled armor sets.
Crazy idea moving armor for WD, moving tentacleson the head, one of their favorite sets, Trust me it looks SWEET.
Epic armor without Epic icons sucks. The icons arepretty much the same for the armor set on the 3d model.
DYES they want you to be able to find a new way tocustomize your gear, and they want you to have as many choices as possible.Dyes are picked up bought or crafted, certain dyes are more rare than others.
Weapons progressions: Axes going from very simpleto very ornate and fantastic. They want the simple ones to read like they aresimple and as you go up they want you to feel that its amazing, they don't careas much about the middle they want you to see which feels right. They arethemed, so they look more evil or nicer, for all the armor and weapons.
Randomness is completely unpredictable. If youdon't get a wep drop form an entire dungeon it isn't a mess up in the system itis was how it was supposed to be. D2 answer was vendors. No loot at all makesthe game difficult. Crafting artisans is vendors 2.0.
Showing the mystic - stave's, wands, other magicitems, enchant items, indentifies items,
Blacksmith, adds sockets, makes weaponry, andrepairs.
Jeweler - rings and ammys, combines gems, andde-sockets gems, takes gems out of items and preserves them.
Gem levels.
Emerald
Ruby
Sapphire
Topaz
Amethyst
Diamond
Only first five levels of gems are actuallydropped to get higher you need to combine the gems.
Gem progression Thanks to Deventh for this pic
UI shouldn't impede the action. They want it to beeasy to learn and do what everyone knew.
Vendor consistency
blacksmith interface, options at left, flavorimagery to right.
Mystic interface Options at left, flavor imageryto right
UI design
they first make an early mock up.
Item listing was too detailed - 4 items per page
MOAR ITEMS, LESS PAGING - 10 items per page.
Tool tip too cumbersome
they had ideas of days to make good items
They wanted it to be simple so they turned it intoa simple list of items
The queue incorporated into list
Bottom detail has requirements.
They knew early on that they wanted the caravan tohave unique designs.
BLACKSMITH
Blocky, aggressive, thick wood, heavy metal, cooldesaturated tones
MYSTIC
Round organic shapes, vibrant cloth, nature Themes
JEWELER
Triangular shapes, Thin Warm wood, Intricatedetailed Bling
They knew they wanted to level up and progress, even their environment. Showing how they are simple at first and get coolerlooking.
Showing low level mystic to high level mystic.
Had a hard time with mystic because they wanted tomake her nature and round objects so they put her in a circle
Jeweler had different troubles the blacksmith andMystic could just make cooler items, the jeweler had to make small items sothey made the jewelers cart look more opulent.
SMALL Q&A
Are rune words progressing and in the game?
They have talked about it a little but haven'tactually put much thought into it yet.
How much is the UI customizable in DIABLO 3?
NONE, the reason being that customization mods areawesome but the problem was the whole game got shifted by the community andthey don't want Diablo to be shifted from the easy learning intuitive design toa much more complex design.
In multiplayer if I have a level 1 artisan and myfriend has a level 2 than do they transpose or will your vendorstill be level 1?Are they accessible in the PvP world?
They had crazy ideas where all the vendors arethere, but they found that just being able to see your own vendor is the way togo, but if people give us feedback and want a change they will look at it.
No they are separated in PvP so as not to dictatethe PvE
Do you maintain your look throughout thedifficulties?
No it does not; they transfer over instead ofresetting. There are 18 tiers and they go through all three difficulties.
If I dye an armor and ditch it and use a new armordoes the dye transfer over?
No because they want you to keep looking for thedyes and using new ones. All the parts of your dyable armor can be differentfrom the other armors.
In Diablo 1 you always felt like your characterwas scared, why choose a powerful style instead?
Oh don't worry you’re going to get the shitkicked out of you in the game, but we also want you to feel pretty powerful. But by making you have to kill for health and
Want would be an exclusive for CE ?
They haven't talked about it at all.

10. I'm not entirely sure what you mean by this. IT isnt about WoW but about how unoriginal Diablo is being. Ehem so what you're saying is every rpg is unoriginal cause it stole it's rpg aspect from zelda and the originals? You have no argument that it is unorginal, By your logic everything is unoriginal just because it was taken from somewhere else, and then improved upon. They improved their system for items fool. Look at the new pics they are actual pics of the item just not tetris styled.
11. They use runes/skills/ gear to customize they each have unique attributes and the skills go from having like 10 a class to 150 a class based on how many skills and runes there are.
1
Okay i'm going to go Point by Point counter assesment.
1.Okay so what you're telling me with this point is that you think Diablo should no longer have any undead in the game based on its "un-originality"... did I get that right? My point is this, You can't have hell's minions without some sort of undead. All the cultists do are summon small beasts that deal massive damage. How is this a direct copy of WoW's undead?
2. What is so bad about unique-epic? It isn't unoriginal at all in fact Diablo was the first to use Unique items, and so what if Epic is better all they did was borrow from their other franchise which isn't unoriginality if they made it.
3. Again WoW got their Bar from the most basic Hot Bar system. Where would you have liked Diablo to go with this one. There are still mouse based skills exactly like D2 only it is in a condensed bar that doesn't take up the entire bottom portion of the screen. In fact looking at the UI looks completely normal and new If you haven't noticed WoW has your guy standing in the center of the Character U.I in Diablo your guy is not present so again I don't understand what your gripe about "unoriginality" is.
4. Alright Alright enough with this "art style is too pretty for me cause I am monochromatic" Honestly lighten up the world is rebuilding there was a twenty year break in between D2 and D3 grass grows and so do trees, rains fall and rainbows form it is called life. If you have problems with this game not being dark enough go look at the tristram footage. IT is in a graveyard and there is a pile of dead bodies in a huge wagon somewhere.
5.Health orbs are perfectly fine. They do what they need to and they tell you when they do it. Instead of just dishing out health for hitting a monster you have to actually pick this thing up which makes you think more than just "oh hey, I need health i'll just run in and attack." It presents a challenge to the player, such as in "Oh crap I have 26 HP, How do i get through these five Dark Cultists and make it to the health orb in time"
6. Level 99 serves absolutely NO PURPOSE WHATSOEVER! I don't understand what the obsession is with it being 100 or 99. 99 took a long ass time to get to constant Baal runs and it gets boring. Level 60 is absolutely fine and just cause they did it like WoW doesn't mean it unoriginal WoW took most of it's shit from diablo so you can say WoW is an upgrade to Diablo.
7. I have literally never been more stunned in my life. How can you say that you don't want to see your axe have lightning bolts flying erratically out of your axe? IT just looks awesome, and seeing the coldness steam off your axe is killer, and the insane fire effect on your maul what is so bad about this?. Skill effects make half the game. When i wanna rain blizzards on enemies I wanna see it in high detail with maximum effect and watch my enemies freeze and crack under it. I don't want some lame toned downed effects.
8. Again the effects are fine 4 players is fine as well. How many do you want? 9? It just isn't needed. You can beat the game with four and you can have fun watching kick-ass spells and blood and guts flying everywhere from your enemies. This is why i love this game. THERES BOATLOADS OF GORE!
9. I sort of agree here. It kind of kills re-playability, but at the same time it helps people out. Instead of having to wander aimlessly hoping to find the opening to Stony field, it is west 45 degrees every time. It just makes it easier. And i kind of like it this way because It makes it a lot more linear and I'll know where I have to go. If i want to fight enemies I can go into dungeons and fight them there. They will be random and new every time.
The first thing that pops into my head when they made this game. "Let's color it a bit instead of using the same old Mono Chromatic colors we used in previous games.","Let's turn up the effects so people can admire their kick ass gear and skills and watch the blood fly out instead of having 20 people do the same exact thing.", "Let's do what makes it easier for our players, let's get advanced mechanics for old timers and easy new ones for newcomers of all ages."
And You are completely wrong about it being made for the masses. Indeed they need newcomers clearly kids ten years ago don't have the same time they do now to play their game. They of course want new people to come but how often do you see games like this come out, Oh thats right NEVER! Not many people like these types of games either, if you haven't noticed it has to have a gun or the masses hate it. The only game i can find close to this game that currently out is Dragon age and Torchlight all other games like this just seem to lack what Diablo emphasized, the blood the guts the gore. The darkness is what makes this game. Also, by darkness i don't mean turn everything gray red and black I mean the looks the depth of the gore the amount of it the eeriness of places.

Then epic games introduced an update that gives you XP another good idea for Horde mode. The more waves you kill the more XP you have the harder the monsters are at wave 1 based on your lvl. So say you just start wave 1 at level 1 you'll get what I got when i first played now start wave 1 when you're level thirty and well lets say you'll have boomers and mulchers starting already and they'll be harder and harder and harder and harder until you reach max level. Not a bad idea to upgrade re-playability but it still suffer5s from the same thing it gets boring too quickly and after fully completed theres no point in going back just to re-kill it all again sure it might be fun for an hour but then its just bland and boring as you'll die quickly and not want to restart all over again. Another way it was boring if you start at level 1 and you have the easiest monsters well that just sucks theres no use in going through every single level again so easily you kinda just want a challenge already and therefore you get bored and put down the controller like i did.
In order to implement this well they would have to have an ever increasing difficulty and some sort of a reward maybe a small exp gain but something enough that you'll feel like doing it cause if it is too small people wont feel it is useful and then they'll get bored. Also keep updating with new monsters the more monsters the merrier, the way i see it a new monster can mean all the difference between an hour and three hours of play. I don't want to be killing the same ten monsters for three hours its just kind of retarded. Halo actually did a better Job at Horde mode, Firefight, from Halo:ODST actually let you have a base and set up a camp in the base and essentially let the horde come to you where as in GoW you were limited in space and most of the time the place you hid in was easily accessible from all sides only certain maps have good areas to duck in cover in. The maps were also much larger in Halo which was a big plus for me instead of having a 100foot by 100 foot place i had a 1000x1000ft place to run around freely and take different vantage points. Since there were also allot of maps to choose from you had bunches of vantages point on each unique map that offered preferred use for one type of gun or another and the diversity of the monsters also helped. And every wave it wasn't the same this monster this monster this monster, they switched it up they said heres 4 brutes but the next time you did wave four oh heres 15 grunts of equal fighting power. This is what Blizzard would need to do, have a wide range of maps that are big and have vantage points and open ground for fights and a nice base or two for archers and long ranged mages to attack from and there needs to be a diversity in monsters more than just 50 i wanna see allot and it needs to be switched up the order they come in. Say the last wave gives u Baal the first time around the next time i don't want Baal i want 350 fallen equal to the power of Baal so its interesting and you always have to be on your toes and know the different strategies for the different monsters that you face.
SORRY FOR THE WALL O TEXT but this is my opinion and i laid it out very unorganized sorry!
