posted a message on Bashiok on "Keys" in Diablo 3
    Quote from "mockery" »
Bashiok has just responded to a user inquiry on the Battle.net forums in regards to how dropping keys would work in Diablo 3 - ie: specific keys used for specific things, instead of the more random keys that we saw in Diablo 2. Here's what Bashiok had to say in regards to the question:

So what do you think? Would you rather have random keys work in all chests, or do you like the more specific keys only working with certain things? Personally, I prefer the more specific ones because it adds an extra element of challenge. I like having to hunt for an item, battling my way through hordes of enemies. Makes it all the more satisfying when I finally get it!

I dunno, I really like the idea of chest requiring more complex keys to open them, I just think that perhaps they would be dropped more. And maybe have the super-keys being able to open the lame chests as well. Then it adds bit of a key game to the whole thing

You can play a D2 game without working for Blizzard.

Not really a question I think bliz will answer, but nonetheless, theres a company called EB games that is quite reputable down here in new zealand, and anyway, they've put up http://www.ebgames.co.nz/PC/product.cfm?ID=12525 which basically says that D3s being released in june next year. Confirm/deny? It used to say it had a price of $nz199 set for it. Anything to say?

This shirt is fantastic. Hopefully it'll come with a d3 collector's edition or something so we can get it in New Zealand.

First up, a response to a question regarding Monsters:
It would be naive to think that with all of the creatures, demons, and monsters in the world of Sanctuary that they'd all purely be concerned with killing you and you alone.
Hinting that the player may discover monsters who fight each other in the wilderness!

Wooooohoooo! I was so hoping something like that might happen. Just the wendigos not occasionally taking a swipe at and/or eating the blood hawks seemed so unnatural!

I look forward to people leading mobs of opposing monsters to each other for a
brawl/laugh/bunch of easy XP (depending on how the XP system works) =D

Oh how I want to pull a mob of goatmen into a fallen camp ...

What are you currently planning for the new crafting system? Re: Cube/Runes/etc. I heard that you guys were going to drop the rune idea, but are you going to get rid of all character-created-item generation? Will we still be able to make things, only they're a lot harder to make or conversly a lot less powerful? Or will the only makable things be consumable or quest items? - Veltras #4 and Decay #12

How similar will the skill tree be to Diablo 2? Will we be having the same progression-type skill tree as in Diablo 2? And will synergies make a return? - basekick #8 (took something out that I thought was already covered re: mana vs Fury)

Cow level, yay or nay, and if there is a cow level, can it please be brightly colored and be full of rainbows? lol - Decay #12

Guilds? I know there was major talk of them back in d2 devel time (Or was it the addon?) about guilds and guild rooms etc that you and your mates could all go to with like banks and etc, but I think the problem was that it wasn't so good due to battle.net restrictions. Can you clarify this at all? And will we be seeing this kinda thing in D3? - Decay #12

Pvp: I know that wasn't something people liked much in D2, and caused a lot of grief, but with wide areas and better battle.net capabilities, does that mean that there will be options of (excuse the wow term) raid-like things? Or battle arenas or something? - Decay #12

Character stuff: Is there going to be any "fluff" for the characters? I mean like will we be able to dance/wave/etc like in wow? 'Cos having a bad-ass barby kick the proverbial out of a boss demon and do a dance (or a stomp, or victorious yell, etc etc) on his corpse would be RAD. I guess I could settle for more num-pad pre-built voice clips though. Although I know a lot of people get irritated when I do this all through a game lol - Decay #12

Can loot be kicked around by monsters or players do to the Havok physics engine? Same goes for bodies - can they be kicked around post-death? - AcidReign #14

Is there any interest to stop players from "rushing" others through the Acts in Diablo III? (Online) - AcidReign #14

Will there be professions or non-combat based skills in D3? -CuttySark #36 (paraphrased)

Once you move onto a new "act", will things that you do there effect things in previous acts? Like completing a quest in "act" 3 might open up a quest in "act" 1 to do (Or even close off quest arcs)- Decay #85 (paraphrased)

Where can I get a Diablo III poster to "enlighten" my room? - AcidReign #14 (Only half serious ;)

Is is possible to move to previous world locations in Diablo III, even though your player character has progressed to another act? Or is one limited to staying within the zone the act is focused on?

    For example:

    - I just completed A1, A2. In A3 (assuming there is one), can/will a player visit A1 again in addition to being able to access a new area?

Oooh ooh ooh, even cooler, once they go back to act one, might they find a bunch of new quests that weren't even available yet due to things happening in the story in act 2/3 causing quests/etc to appear in act one that weren't there originally ...

Wow, bad at explaining my point there.

[Question] Will Diablo III have bosses/unique monster encounters that are multi-layered? By this I mean having the bosses/uniques use different attack abilities and tactics as you get their health lower.

[Specifics] I know I might get flamed for this...but the 3-phase Kael'Thas encounters from The Burning Crusade are a great example of a challenging boss fight that develops in flavour as you move into each phase. It would be awesome to see the environment used against us in such fights as well. Other worthy reference points could be the 'Sisters of Fate' fight in the God of War series.

[Question Again] Can we expect to see some of this multi-layered encounter approach to bosses in Diablo as opposed to the 'hey I'm big and I'm going to keep hitting you in 10 different animations till you kill me' approach?

    -MajorMoose humbly requests.

Take a closer look at the gameplay video. At one point (Can't remember where) there is some demon that some dudes summon that sucks all their blood/etc up to make itself. After it got hit a bit, it increased in speed and some weird flaming rune appeared all over its body. I'd say they've already started doing this =)

Seriously guys, if your going to post questions and ideas, could you try to first look at other folks' previous posts so not to restate the same idea/subject. It's jsut getting stupid when you got 10 people talkking about Guilds/Kinds of Loot/skill tree......

I guess it kinda indicates what people are most interested in though ...

Aw man, I loved runewords =/ they were fun, making like 20 countess runs until finally you got the runes you wanted and the item with the right amount of sockets and then you were awesome for a little while until you found something else to go for hehe

And I disagree with the idea that weapons detract from the uniqueness of a char, I mean look at the stories, theres heaps of examples of people with fancy-as rare-as-hens-teeth weapons like excallibur and king arthur. Thor and mjollnir. And every third samurai has a fancy weapon that some old man on top of a mountain was supposed to make for them ;)

I dunno, I loved that extra dimension to the item game

posted a message on Bashiok Discusses Inventory Systems
I was never a fan of weight based systems, if only because they never seem to get it right. They always either give the warrior/barby massive bonuses, since their main "stat" tends to be strength, which also tends to be the most suitable to attach weight restrictions to. This tends to nuke poor mr mage since they tend to have NO point in strength. Although they don't tend to carry as heavy stuff, so its not so bad, but it just means that tank-mage becomes the best player, hands down
