posted a message on It IS Charsi??
So I(like most of us I assume lol) have been playing D2 again.

I was playing my new barbarian, them being my favorite class, and I got into nightmare, no big thing right??

Well I happened to talk to Charsi, and heres exactly what she said....

"Ya know I've been with the Sister's for as long as I can remember, but Akara told me that my real parents were Barbarians from the Northern Tribes, and were killed when I was very young.

Sometimes I wonder what my life would have been like if I had been raised as a barbarian.

I don't know. I love being a blacksmith....but sometimes I just want to get out and see the world, ya know?"

    Its gotta be her :D

    posted a message on Leah
Although no one can be really sure who she is.

One can gather so far that she is obviously a main character, has close ties to Cain, and is apparently some kind of seer of sorts.

I think she might possibly be related to Cain, or perhaps an apprentice. But given his obvious age, has also taken up the cause to take care of him. She obviously cares for Cain if she is so worried about him when he left for the Cathedral.

My thought is that she will be the first NPC you speak to when you start the game, and she will probably task you with venturing into the Cathedrals ruins to make sure Cain is still alive after the comet struck the ground there. I doubt she has any real magical abilities herself aside from perhaps foresight, thus tasks the adventurer into finding him.

This could be an interesting conversation since we know the story will change slightly based on what class you play.

As a barbarian I'm guessing that after the events of D2, the Barbarian tasked himself as Cain's guardian, probably in honor of Tyrael's apparent demise(Tyrael swore an oath to protect the Horadrim, so I think the barbarian probably took up the same cup in his stead), so this Leah probably also aware of you as well. You venture to the old Labyrinth in search of Cain, and stumble upon these Dark Cultists. Upon Cain's discovery, you escort him to safety, then proceeded through to investigate them further.

This probably results in the discovery of a plot to bring the demons back to Sanctuary. Thus, POOF...Epic adventure to save the world.

All I know is I'm playing the barbarian first. The idea of this old hero, finding that even after all these years, the Evil that he sought to destroy has somehow persevered, and that he must again pick up his sword, taking up the sworn oath of his people to protect Sanctuary, yet again.

posted a message on Diablo’s Personality
I haven't had the privilege to read those books yet. But from that little scene....it seems to me like Diablo does in-fact enjoy playing with his victims fears. Which has not been shown in any of the games. It's always been this big red, horned demon with immense strength, and magical power. He certainly looked like terror, but he never really acted like it.

I think it might be that he seems to have the mentality that he is an all powerful demon lord, and that he just goes about smashing things in D1 & D2, because he facing mere mortals.

From that scene though, we can divulge a few things about Diablo though, one, he does have the power to tap peoples fears, and two; He's seems to have the ability to change his physical appearance. Also it seems that he is certainly more cunning and insidious than any of his brothers.

Look at how the three themselves freed themselves from the Soul Stones. His two brothers were simply given a vessel in which to take & corrupt. Sure, Mephisto had fun with it and totally destroyed the Zakarum religion, but Diablo had nothing.

He was buried deep, deep beneath the the earth, clearly farther than either of his two brothers, with nothing but empty halls, and broken stairwells...trapped within his stone. Yet despite that, Diablo was easily able to not only corrupt his Soul Stone, but was able to reach his will, his presence all the way up through the labyrinth, and although he was to weak from his imprisonment to take control of Leoric, he fooled the Archbishop into bringing the Prince to become his Vessel.

That has to take one Hell of a lot of some dark, evil, insidious power, and thought to do so.

Although I don't think Diablo is overall more powerful than either of his brothers, he is certainly far more than just this big red demon we see in the first two games, and I really hope they bring his more cunning side into the picture for Diablo 3(provided he is in D3 at all)

posted a message on The summoner? BACK? no? yes?
According to what I understood from Legacy Of Blood.

Horazon lives on through the Arcane Sanctuary, his spirit is part of it. He took pity on the summoner when he stumbled upon it, being that he was seemingly insane.

Horazon allowed him to stay within the Sanctuary, locked away from the evils that had clearly driven him mad. Overtime the man actually began to think he WAS Horazon, and at the end of the book, the real Horazon used the Summoner as a vesel to which to exit the Sanctuary, in order to stop his brothers armor from taking hold over Norrec. In order to keep the armor at bay, Horazon put the suit of armor on, and returned to the Sanctuary, warning the protagonists to never seek the Sanctuary again, as they will surely perish..

I believe in putting the armor on, Horazon & Bartuc ceased to exist in anyway, and all that was left was a maddened old shell of a man, with the knew knowledge of how to summon an control demons much like Bartuc & Horazon had done.

In short, I really don't think this artwork is the summoner, especially not Horazon. Horazon simply used the Summoner as a vesel to leave the Sanctuary, the Summoner is not Horazon, although he would obviously liked to think he was.

posted a message on Earth Moon in Sanctuary
I've always taken Sanctuary to be a kind of representation of Earth.

Is it really our planet? No. But it's suppose to be similar, because the story of Diablo tells the story of mans triumph over the greatest evils.

Its not that big of a deal.

Azeroth has cows, chickens, and a moon?

Almost every game ever has a moon, and extremely similar animals to our own world.

Having similar elements to ones real world allows players to ease themselves into a game world much easier, and makes the overall experience of any game feel more natural.

I'm more surprised no one has mentioned that we use the Cross in almost every game ever as a religious symbol, even if the religions it represents are non-existent in that game.

Come on, Zakarum Church?? Catholic Church? The teachings of the religion at the start are exactly align with one another. The difference is that the Zakarum were corrupted by a great demon(Mephisto), thus the religion became nothing more than a demonic cult really.

The similarities between the two though are just another example that the game world is suppose to be similar to our own, it makes us feel more at home. Makes us feel in control, so when the developers present us with the variable in the world(the thing thats different from our own) we feel threatened, and thus more inclined to "defend" ourselves, as in; keep playing the game, find out the story, because we want to know how Man triumphs over the Evil.

Although I do find it hilarious the the moon used in the Cinematic is very clearly just a picture of our moon from google, colored up and with lighting added around it so it looks real.

Does anyone remember that one early Diablo 2 trailer showing the wanderer in a wagon holding the soulstone and then dropping it? If he plunged it into his head, why does he later appear without it in his head? doesnt the presence of the soulstone make the person into Diablo? And why doesnt the souldstone ever appear in the dark wanderer's head in the Diablo 2 cut scenes? did I forget something?

I don't remember this trailer...but I do remember that the stone is indeed in his head. When he is in the the Tomb of Tal Rasha, when he starts screaming and changed, you can see an outline of the stone on his forehead.

Also, if you read some of the other scripts one of Cains writtings say how when he emerged from the labyrinth(i believe this is in the D2 manual, non x-pac), he could have sworn he saw an eerie red glow from under the hero's helmet, on his forehead. He later mentions how days later he sees a healed over wound upon his forehead. You never really see the stone, because his body has taken the shard deeper into the skull, and healed over.

Seems like that's the general consensus. I believe Tyrael gave the soulstones to the Horadrim but never really explained where they came from so people think they came from the world stone. Seems logical to me.

My thoughts were though, even if these smaller pieces aren't the biggest pieces of the soulstones, they are still corrupted lying around containing demonic essence. What effect could they have on people, monsters, and the surrounding area?

Especially the Arreat Crater, that place is bound to be littered with shattered pieces of the corrupted worldstone.

Tyrael mentions in some of his npc text in D2 how the Soul Stones came from the World Stone itself.

    (sorry for the double post)

posted a message on The Reason Cain is Still Alive
I think it has more to do with the fact that he is a Horadrim than anything. They were created long ago, when man was still young, and far more powerful in terms of magic.

Although I doubt Cain himself knows any form of spell weaving, I do not doubt that there is much magic enshrouding him. Perhaps it is this magic that extends his life far beyond that of the normal resident of Sanctuary??

Who knows, maybe he is just one lucky SOB?? *shrug*

As for the corpse staying and performance issues, do your home work the average gamer these days has a fricking core duo or quad core with at least an 8600+ card corpse staying on the ground is not going to effect our performance, i for one spent good money on a new computer to be able to run all the next gen games out nd coming out, so please enough of this bs performance crap and just fix it.

You may have bought a new computer, and I may have bought a new computer. Hundreds upon hundreds of us have bought new computers for that reason.

But you forget that one of Blizzard's goal's is to make games available, and enjoyable to everyone. This is why all Blizzard games will run on MAC, and why ALL Blizzard games have decently low system requirements.

The art change isn't just for that purpose either, it so Blizzard can lower the rating for D3 from Mature, to Teen. Making it available to more people.

Your blatant disregard for people is somewhat disturbing. Not everyone can fork over $1000 or more for a nice PC. Blizzard knows this, and thus they have no desire to make the game demanding.

Blizzard doesn't care what YOU want. They care what everyone wants, and most importantly, they care what they want as well. They have desires of what they would like to see in a game. You all forget one very important thing. The programmers that make your games??

    They play the game too.

I'm currently reading the first book of the archive(first time ever!).

I've never been able to purchase the books, as I have no credit card(to order them), but I happened across the archive the other day, and didn't even hesitate to buy it.

I've always been fascinated with Diablo lore, and I'm already more than half way done with The Legacy Of Blood.

To those that have not read these books, seriously, find the time too. Although they are not necessarily events that have anything to do with the events depicted in the games, this does not mean they have nothing of value lore wise.

If your at all interested at Diablo lore, the archive is a good start. Hell...thats why blizzard released it....all the stories are cannon lore, thus what they depict can easily influence the happenings of D3.

Now I just need copies of the Sin War...although I already know a lot about it.

posted a message on what's with that friggin' petition thing?
Although I don't really care either way. I to, am NOT with you.

It looks fine with the new direction, but the point of the petition, to put it simply, the current art direction has more in-common with Warcraft, than it does with Diablo. This upsets the cult following fanbase of the first two games.

I think its a decent question.

According to what I understand, Harragoth was the last bastion of a Barbarian presence that Baal hadn't obliterated yet, located on the slopes of Mt. Arreat. A mountain that now sits in ruins.

However, if you remember, the Elders of Harragoth performed a sacrificial ritual that put up a magical ward around Harragoth....although doubtable, it is possible that the ward protected it from the aftermath.

Its also possible that Harragoth wasn't as close to the Mountain as we thought....I mean the hero's had to travel through the bloody foothills.....the highlands....through several caves, and up the summit to the Ancients......Thats not exactly a short distance.

cool. you know they also took paladin for wow from d2. makes sense.

Actually wrong. The Paladin first appeared in Warcraft 1 as the upgraded version to the Humans Knight unit. Along with the creation of the Silverhand during I believe Warcraft 2(might have been the first one?).

Diablo borrowed the Paladin from Warcraft, however, Warcraft 3 borrowed the idea of Aura's from Diablo 2's paladin.

    Anyway, just pointing that out.

People should not confuse D3 with Warcraft at all. Blizzard has always borrowed ideas from their games. Compare the Undead in WC3 with the Zerg in Starcraft, or the fact that certain Night Elf buildings in Wc3 can move around, similar to the Terran in Starcraft. The way the spell Blink in Wc3 works is very similar to the way Diablo's Teleport works. Frost Nova in WoW works closer to the D2's version than to the Wc3 version.

People should not be so surprised to see similarities among Blizzard games, they've been doing it since they started. Its part of what makes Blizzard games cool, you find little Easter Eggs in they're games, like in Wc3 in one mission, a monster named The Butcher says "Ahhh, Fresh Meat!", straight from Diablo 1.

posted a message on Thoughts from a WoW gamer.
The new graphical style of Diablo does borrow a lot from Warcraft.

But I can say four things after being a Diablo fan since the release day of the first game, to playing WoW for 2 years, to now.

    1. Diablo's game play is not something you should compare to WoW, they are not the same in anyway. WoW's combat is slow, Diablo's is fast, and involved fighting generally more than 10 creatures at once. Where as WoW you generally go for 1-3 unless your grouped.

    2. The new visual style of Diablo is fine, if it wasn't changed, everyone would still buy the game, an love it just the same. That being said, it is a new style, and does not follow the traditional style of Diablo, which is why most people want it changed.

    3. If you have never played Diablo 2, go Back to WoW. Furthermore, if you've never played Diablo 1, your opinion is invalid as well.

    4. When Diablo 2 came out, people complained even then that the game wasn't "dark/gothic" enough, because you spend much more time outside. The first Diablo was extremely dark and gothic, and many of the things depicted in the game were very disturbing. This ranged from the first thoughts of a new player seeing the Butcher's room for the first time, mangled bodies hanging from giant hooks hung from walls, or people impaled on spikes still twitching. From the gothic styled cathedral, to the walls of blood and bone of Hell.....its things like these that players want to see returned imo.
