Q u o t e:Bashiok: This is the detached torso of a Walking Corpse. After death the torso of the Walking Corpse has a chance to survive, detaching itself and crawling after the hero.
Here are some smaller information I gathered from watching Diablo 3's gameplay video. Some may be obvious but have not been posted, so here it goes!
Undead Comes Back for Revenge
http://img261.imageshack.us/img261/9872/crawlingtorsc813de9.jpg
At 8:13 of gameplay, an already dead creature comes back to life. A zombie of the undead!
Q u o t e:Bashiok: This was unfortunately a bug that existed in the build that was being used to record the gameplay video. Those critters die, and there's nothing more satisfying than seeing a bunny corpse flung across the screen. It just wasn't working for the demo, which stinks.
Critters
http://img169.imageshack.us/img169/5757/critters1409zl6.jpg
14:09 of Gameplay - Besides from there being cute bunnies in Diablo 3, critters don't die. Man, I always liked killing critters in Starcraft. This image is the Witch Doctor throwing a random fire ball which directly hits a critter, but the critter receives no effect.
Q u o t e:Bashiok: It was a scripted event to pretty much have a cool way to introduce the female Witch Doctor and Barbarian, so yeah, it wasn't necessarily indicative of something that would show up in the actual game.
Leader doesn't die until new spawns come?
http://img169.imageshack.us/img169/2990/leaderdoesntdie1525jy4.jpg
15:25 of Gameplay - That same leader of the post above this one, leads the Witch Doctor and Barbarian to the hill where it was the supposedly "nasty trap" they got caught into. But this leader was not able to get hit or damaged in any way until after the new enemy spawns came.
Frozen
http://img110.imageshack.us/img110/4686/frozen1530nx5.jpg
15:30 of Gameplay - The Witch Doctor and Barbarian are frozen by the same group leader. It shows 2 red effects on the bottom left of the screen, one looking image looking like a time thing (forgot what its called lol) which may show how long the effect lasts or just slows target down, and second being ice image, which is for the completely frozen effect. Also when frozen, your whole skill bar goes red. (Frozen effect seems dangerous for Hardcore players !)
Q u o t e:Bashiok: This is a knock back effect when the Siegebreaker would use its "charge" type ability. It effectively damages your character and pushes them away from the charging path.
Jumping/Dodging?
http://img157.imageshack.us/img157/1478/jumping1653kl5.jpg
16:53 of Gameplay - During the end of gameplay, the Siegebreaker Assault Beast boss makes his entrance by slamming through the wall, charging against the players. They all jumped. Either its automatic jump reflexes, which seems kind of weird, or theres a jumping button.
Another part when the jumping is really seen as, what's really going on?
http://img115.imageshack.us/img115/8464/dodgeagain1738rc5.jpg
The Siegebreaker charges at the Witch Doctor at 17:38 of gameplay. The Witch Doctor clearly dodges the attack somehow. I would assume, this cannot be automatic reflexes because that would make no sense. Just let him stomp on the damn player, or are the players really dodging somehow?
Bashiok: Aw, of course we care! A large part of my job is specifically to ensure that the valid concerns, comments, and critiques are brought to the appropriate people's attention. That doesn't mean that every idea or suggestion is something we agree with, or are going to base changes on though. There's a point where, as a game designer, you have to stick to your guns and know that your choices and direction are what's best for the game and ultimately those that will be playing it. There's a point where you have to be confident that you're making the right decisions. So at the end of the day you're staying true to your vision and design, and doing what's best for the game.Blackdoom: What is the point in posting ideas and suggestions on her asking for this or that to be in the game, or saying those things should or shouldn't be in it. I doubt anyone from Blizzard... at least anyone from Blizzard that matters, is reading any of the posts here, and even if they did, they most likely do not give a rat's ass about what their fans think. Hell in a post, or somewhere I read it, not sure where, they said they make the games and things in the games around what they like, and want to see in a game, not what the fans want. It would be great if they did give a $!@% though, there have been some awesome ideas on here, but they just do not seem like people who care what their fans want. They are in it for the money from what I've seen, even though they seem that way, I am not saying they suck or anything, Blizzard is still the best! Anyway, anyone have proof that blizzard (someone, or a group of people that matter and might carry some kind of decision making weight) actually cares about what we think? An e-mail, a link, past posts, ect...
A good example of us paying attention though was the concern and thread about corpses not sticking around long enough. I read that thread, brought it up, and some discussion was happening on it. Later our lead tech artist Julian was reading through the replies, and got some ideas of how we may want to keep corpses on screen a little longer. Now we're playing around with some changes that shouldn't have a huge performance hit, while still keeping the corpses on screen for variable amounts of time. Hopefully it works out.
Would any experimentation for corpse decay have happened had it not been brought up on the forums? I don't know, maybe, but we're not just dismissing good, valid, and well reasoned concerns.
As I said not every suggestion, comment, or idea is going to be considered, but we're definitely watching and reading.
Thanks, jinx_spam
Now, what, again? Ok.
Stick to their guns - they got 6+millions customers, you are one down, too bad. Guess what - 5,5+ millions AT THE VERY LEAST like the way THEY DO, not the way YOU THINK THEY SHOULD DO. That's just bs. So, by "we" you mean "we, minority who really doesn't value a job well done". Wish they just say "w/e" to you guys.
Core duo and quad core, 8600+ card, blablabla mimimi, what? The game will be released tomorrow? Bs performance crap?! More about it in the last paragraph.
Darker game - brightness & colors off. You can do that, I believe: if you can't, just ask anybody with a hand and fingers and put on the sig, because you pseudodark wannabes are pissing me off.
Oh, and before I forget, floating numbers, performance crap, seeing floating numbers off 24/7? I finally understand it, now. So do the world a favor: kill yourself or get a life.
You may have bought a new computer, and I may have bought a new computer. Hundreds upon hundreds of us have bought new computers for that reason.
But you forget that one of Blizzard's goal's is to make games available, and enjoyable to everyone. This is why all Blizzard games will run on MAC, and why ALL Blizzard games have decently low system requirements.
The art change isn't just for that purpose either, it so Blizzard can lower the rating for D3 from Mature, to Teen. Making it available to more people.
Your blatant disregard for people is somewhat disturbing. Not everyone can fork over $1000 or more for a nice PC. Blizzard knows this, and thus they have no desire to make the game demanding.
Blizzard doesn't care what YOU want. They care what everyone wants, and most importantly, they care what they want as well. They have desires of what they would like to see in a game. You all forget one very important thing. The programmers that make your games??
They play the game too.
They say they've spent 5 years already on the game by the look of it it's gonna be 5 more. People always sayin they'll wait as long as it takes for the game to be perfect, by that time the game will be outdated.
Is he talking about diablofans.com forums or just forums in general? If diablofans then I made that thread, or one of them anyway if there is more than one.
http://www.diablofans.com/forums/showthread.php?t=11704
I'm gonna pretend that I influenced them whether it be true or not, makes me feel cool.
He must have read my comment in that thread he's talking about where I mentioned that Titan Quest / Titan Quest : Immortal Throne with it's advanced physics and graphics, was able to keep every dead creature on the ground, along with every item, with no slow down or performance hit for the most part, which is also in one large streamed world with no load times. But yeah, I'm glad to see they are reading our comments and actually taking it to Diablo. Atleast when Diablo 3 releases, we'll know part of it's glory was due to it's fans.
I think I would cry myself to sleep every night if blizzard lowered DIABLO 3 to teen instead of mature.... this is freakin the diablo series.. please dont cheapen the experience of its true fan base because you want it to be more suited for a wider audience.
There's a reason blizzard has a reputation for making good games; they tend to make good design decisions, and don't release a game unless it's good. They learned from Ghost not to announce a game unless it was pretty damn good already. Also, since it's 3d with physics the 50 dead cows of D2 on the ground can't be reenacted since another cow/wall falling on top of that pile will force millions of interactions, each of which needs to be calculated, about 100 interactions PER BODY. Put it this way, it takes a day for a supercomputer to calculate a car crash interaction; there's A LOT of variation when it comes to physics simulation.
Negative wakaakakachakkaka.
He's not referring to a thread on this forum directly. He's referring to a thread on a different forum.
sure there are different audiences now then there were 10 years ago, but blizzard can literally make any game it wants for every audience... this next, and hopefully best, installment to the diablo series should be a true diablo in all its glory. just enhanced and built upon, not changed or tampered with in any way.
but, the team making the game has changed and i guess so has the direction of this great series.
i trust blizzard to make a great game.. i just dont know if i trust that this game will be a true to the diablo series.
i didnt mean that as in no 10 year olds would play... i meant it like if its teen instead of mature (as D2 was).. then clearly the content of the game will show that.
Na, I'm sure he read the comments from the thread that is hot linked on Blizzards website as Diablofans.com as well ;);)
direct rip from a discussion we had on LJ follows:
from: http://tipidpc.com/viewtopic.php?tid=151838
"Starcraft announced summer of 96, it was released summer of 98.
Diablo II announced July, 1998, it was released July 5, 2000
WArcraft III, announced August of 1999. Released July 3, 2002.
World of Warcraft, announced September 2, 2001. Released November 23, 2004."
using this, we're lookin at prolly 2-3 years here :/
No, critter killing changes your feeling of the character dramatically. You want to feel like your char is baddass? Kill a bunny, its free and bam, your char seems badass (well, mentally). Want your character to seem nice and lovely, then don't kill the critter. Its all up to you really; they're not in any way forcing you to kill critters, they're just letting you do it if you want.
Hell, if you feel strongly enough about it, you can roleplay your char as some super-nice person who doesn't group with critter killers. I don't really think anyone else would mind?
HG:L makes for a bad example here. You're pointing out examples of poor implementation of concept and design decisions, and then faulting the directional choices, rather than the shoddy mechanics or implementation.
As per Bashiok's quote, Blizzard often sticks to their vision and design over other changes; not in lieu of better options because of effort or hours, but rather because of the direction they want to take the game.
Oh, in comparison to you, Bashiok has proven himself kinder, more sane and coherent, and he works for my personal favorite video company. Ergo, I like him more than you.
