Apr 28, 2009SNowfreak posted a message on How Long Is Too Long For Game Development? It really depends on the game and its genre. I am always willing to wait for a game if itll be better, but games lilke zelda shouldnt take 10 years to make and at the same time they shouldnt (as no game should) take a couple months. Zelda games should be given a couple years space usually as it allows for adequate developement time as well as the players to not be burnt out from the series (tony hawk, NFS, mario party, ect.).Posted in: News
That being said, with certain games around 10 years seems to be fine. And by certain games i more or less mean diablo as i dont mind that it has taken so long because diablo II is the most amazing game ever developed and i can play it again and again for 10 years lol. Zelda games are outstanding but after a few playthroughs you are going to need a break before you play it again as to where diablo II has the most replaybality i have ever seen in any game.
so it all boils down to a balance and the fact that diablo is in a league of its own and certainly is a unique circumstance. I am ready for diablo III :). -
Apr 16, 2009SNowfreak posted a message on Diablo 3 Difficulty Levelsi like how bashiok put it. Diablo II was a pretty good difficulty IMO, but it was flawed in areas. Trying to beat the game with a sorceress in hell mode was pretty hard, annoying, and boring. Now it should be hard, but not impossible! reesistances are good, but immunities are no fun to have ALL THE TIME. IT should be as hard or harder than DII but in a better way that fixes the bad things of DII.Posted in: News

Jan 7, 2009SNowfreak posted a message on Bashiok On Diablo 3 Stat Points.i dont want a beta personally. Takes away the fun of the first time IMO.Posted in: News
i think you used the word cons twice and meant to have pros in there somewhere lol. but i agree, the customization is always good. Sure it helps the people who don't know anything about it, but that is dumbing it down for people that truly enjoy the game and making multiple character builds. Bad idea. Maybe they should just slightly recraft the system and not take it away altogether. -
Jan 7, 2009SNowfreak posted a message on Bashiok On Diablo 3 Stat Points.you never had to "reroll" (btw this is diablo, who calls it rerolling honestly?) for your stats in diablo 2. You just had to be smart in allocation from the beginning. That is why diablo is so fun. It is about planning out your character and then plowing through to make that beast that you want. Taking away stat customization is in no way good, while i can see why they want to do it.Posted in: News

Jul 10, 2008SNowfreak posted a message on Official BlizzCast 5 Q&A SubmissionsI have a couple questions...I highlighted the important part of each.Posted in: News
1.) In reference to the dungeon they showed off (Forgotten Tombs) in the gameplay video; are the dungeon maps going to be linear like it was in the video? was this just for the sake of showing off the game play and was rigged to be a one way dungeon? i am hoping we see multiple paths going in different directions, as there was in previous diablos
2.) Blizzard showed off many different skills in the video, and i noticed there was a box that expands when you get more skills (the skill selection box for the hotbar). So this does not give any inclination as to how many skills there are per character. How many skills are there going to be per character?
3.) I noticed that there are different level caps for different skills, such as whirlwind being 20, wall of zombies 5, and so on. How many skills are going to be capped at 1, 5, 10, and 20 for each character? - To post a comment, please login or register a new account.

Could you please give me an example of this game? I honestly can't think of any that don't have any story at all and have amazing graphics. Now i agree that graphics dont make the game great no matter its other parts, but graphics are very nice and undeniably important IMO.

I agree with you on some, but some I personally think are wrong. I definitely agree with you on the monsters leveling with you...absolutely lame. And to your last one, all I need to say is Goldeneye lol. and there's a couple others, such as chronicles of riddick.
p.s. - no one likes dumb AI lol...I think that's a given

1) Regenerative Health
Remember the days of Goldeneye and Perfect Dark, where the missions were actually a challenge? I loved having to worry about getting shot and having armor to find. Besides, for wanting to achieve realism today, that is quite a lousy way to do it. IMO for MOST games (some games work well with this system) i like a set health limit and that's it. With that said, I am also a huge fan of the medic style of battlefield.
2) Chaotic FPS's
Now dont get me wrong, I love some of today's FPS's and chaos certainly fits the genre. With that said, you often find in FPS's today that the enemies already know where you are and you just keep driving forward shooting mindlessly. I loved the approach of Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, and Timesplitters (2 being my favorite). That being said, some games like Crysis have done the tactical approach much better then others. i dont want FPS's to be splinter cell, but the idea of starting unseen many times and using the element of surprise is very fun.
3) Western RPG's That Don't Know What They Want To Be
I am sure I will get pretty much everyone here against me on this one, but IMO games like Fallout 3, Oblivion, and Fable II (dreadful game I think) all strive for a feeling of so much to do and tons of customization, but really lack. I would have to say the biggest offender is Fable II. The game seems kinda like zelda but the story, combat, puzzles, and so on are lacking compared to zelda, but the customization and other elements lack when compared to Diablo II. So IMO the game is just too spread thin and doesnt really achieve greatness.
Any comments or ideas of your own?

I really disagree with you. Diablo III looks far less cartoony and has much better graphics. Yes there is a similarity because its 3d, iso, and has art lol. But even the models of all the monsters are not even remotely close to that of any diablo's.
if there was a scale from 1 to 10 on on looks of similarity, (0 being diablo II, and 10 being torchlight) id put D III at a 3 or something.

How good is the game and what might i expect to see that the demo doesnt offer? I played the demo and its fun but is essentially a cartoony, 3d, diablo II with a couple of nice features added to it, as well as some not so welcome features. If it had LAN or online id probably buy it.
Dont get me wrong this game looks good, but Diablo III i going to blow it out of the water ;).

It had MASSIVE potential and certainly isn't a "horrible" game, but was drug down by a few things.
1) It needs more tile sets and structure. Act's never really felt separate like they did in Diablo II, it all felt to cluttered and repetitive.
2) BUGGY as hell. Everyone expected this among other things to be fixed in the final version, but more or less, the beta was the final version.
With those two things honestly being the killer for me, there is others such as the fact that you had to pay money for anything. It is not an MMO and shouldnt have been advertised like it was. If the game wasnt hyped up as Diablo II's succesor (before D III was revealed), and I just noticed it and picked it up on a console or something, I might have thought its prett decent, but it was in turn a massive let down.
