I think beyond what a char can do, the apparence counts. He must be cool, not some kind of colored bird
Well realistically spraking we have to be true to the character. And that is how witchdoctors are. Their headgear is normally pretty colourful. Sometimes with feathers. Still pretty intimidating. Just google "witchdoctors" and look at the images.
Also if you remember the necro was pretty much just a guy with long white hair. Stilll a very fun class to play.
And also, look on the WD animation on diablo3.com. Im sorry, but they made him look like a starving Ethiopian kid ((
Remember its not how he looks. Rather what he is capable of. If you looked at Diablo 2, the sorceress wasn't exactly a very intimidating looking character. It was more of what she could do.
No, I wouldn't, I know who witch doctors are. But for a game like diablo. Witch doctor doesnt fit in. It's not dark enough Thats why I hate druid from D2 exp pack. Druid and WD are the gayest additions to diablo franchise. I know some ppl are going to flame for the druid comment, sry but they're too wow-ish.:D
Well based on what I know, the witchdoctors were pretty dark people. Then again, if you think that every class should be dark, then the paladin, barbarian and such aren't really dark too.
interesting
its just that to me witches are ugly ladys that can make sorceries out of bizarre recipes, and a doctor is a man in white workig on a hospital
Yup it should not be treated as two individual terms. Rather collectively as just one term.
Come on man, diablo classes should be like: Sorcerer, Necromancer, Warrior, some holy-related class. But 'witch Doctor'..... fuck, that sounds like from those trolls in WoW.....lame!
Again read my post that was just above yours. The African Witchdoctors were feared and respected in their own tribes as well as in other tribes.
as long as they make lore enough to make it fit in diablo, i will be ok, but his name truly sucks imo
witch?....... doctor?! that saound totally silly to me
I doesn't really sound silly. The term "Witchdoctor" has been used to refer to the African tribe Shamans. They were believed to have supernatural powers, including powers of healing as well as causing harm.
Why does the witch doctor have a fireball spell? THIS DOESNT MAKE SENSE. Fire should remain unique to the sorceress (unless you have elemental traps like the assassin in d2).
But a plain fireball spell?
I'm pretty sure in one of the interview videos linked in the news thread, the Blizzard rep was saying that it was not a spell. More like a physical process of igniting a fuel in some sort of a container (I'm pretty sure he mentioned that a skull could have been used as the vessel) and throwing it at the mobs.
Personally, I do not really believe that the graphics would make or break a game. They would make a difference, but the will not make the game a bestseller. Take Titan Quest for example. Pretty good graphics (to me anyway) but after a while, my copy of the game is just collecting dust.
Diablo 2, on the other hand, does not exactly have ground-breaking graphics (by today's standards) but I'm still playing it after all these years. Why? Gameplay, storyline and fun classes. Of course you could add in a lot of other reasons such as loot and such but I'll not go into detail.
From what I saw from the gameplay video (which we have to remember represents a very small portion of the game), yes there is more colour. However, I don't see the problem. It was an outdoor scene, sometime in the day. Isn't that how the scene is supposed to appear? I have also read about the rainbow argument. Again, isn't a rainbow a naturally occuring phenomenon that can occur outdoors, regardless it whether there are people (or demons) gettting slaughtered. For example, during World War 2, I'm sure the mood was gloomy during the war. However, there must have been days of bright sunshine (and rainbows ). But that would not have changed the fact that a battle was going on.
I am sure that there will be gloomy aspects (in terms of the graphics which people seem to be arguing about) which would depend on the location within the game. We just have to wait for further development of the game.
I think the current look is pretty ok. As for the more slots for the skill bar, therer could be more in the final release, or possibly an option to control the number of hotbars displayed.
Hey guys just came across this site. Very interesting threads in here. Anyway with regards to character naming, might I suggest character names from books by fantasy authors such as David Gemmell. They have some interesting names there.
For example:
Barbarian:- Beltzar
Assassin:- Althalus (more a Man's name)
Sorceress:- Polgara (from books by David Eddings)
Necromancer:- AstaKhan (which I always use, and if possible, reserve)
There are some other pretty good names out there, just not coming to mind now though.

Perhaps by reading up a bit more on witchdoctors and their roles you would either
(a) come up with a more constructive response other than "it sounds gay" OR
(b) agree with me
