alot of it is personal opinion and what YOU think sounds nice. How much can you yourself notice? To Each their own basiclly.

What you're talking about now is usually referred to as "Sound Coloration", basically that the sound is out of balance in some way or another (more bass than normal, more treble, etc.). Some people prefer bass heavy headphones, others don't. But this has little or nothing to do with sound separation (ability to distinguish one sound from another) and sound quality. Multiple other factors come into play as well such as soundstage (perceived depth in the sound) as well as "headstage".

There is a huge difference in sound quality between a $50 headset and a $250 studio headphone and anyone can tell the difference. If you can't, you probably have severe hearing problems (no joke or insult intended).

If you sell TVs you should know more than well that some people may like a screen with a certain hint of blue to the colors while others may like a hint of red, but, fact remains that everyone wants and can appreciate a TV with a crisp and sharp picture. The same is true for headphones. A state of the art $2000 plasma TV is vastly better than a budget version for $400.

Just to check, is there a significant difference in the sound quality between in-ear earphones and headphones? Was looking at http://www.amazon.com/Shure-SRH840-Professional-Monitoring-Earphones/dp/B002DP8IEK/ref=sr_1_12?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1332671427&sr=1-12 and was wondering if it would be comparable to something like http://www.amazon.com/Ultimate-Ears-TripleFi-Isolating-Earphones/dp/B0019RBJOE/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1332672101&sr=1-1.

Cause if the sound quality were comparable, the headphones might be more comfortable for use at home, while the earphones might be better suited for my travels.

Same goes with TV's. Some people may like a screen with a certain hint of blue to the colors while others may like a hint of red but fact remains that everyone wants and can appreciate a TV with a crisp and sharp picture. The same is true for headphones.

I guess it would be easier to tell the difference if the source was of high quality. That is when quality earphones really shine. A poorly ripped MP3 file would just sound poor through any earphone. I wonder what sound format Blizzard is using for the in-game music and effects.

I normally use the same set of earphones for my music and gaming. Not headphones. In-ear earphones. The ones I am currently using are http://www.amazon.com/Ultimate-Ears-TripleFi-Isolating-Earphones/dp/B0019RBJOE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1332652039&sr=8-1
The sound quality for the price are quite good.

However some people don't really like these sort of earphones as they don't find them too comfortable, but if you can wear them comfortably, the sound quality is pretty amazing! Might be overkill for gaming though, but if you do listen to music as well, these might be a decent investment. If its purely for gaming, then you might want to look for cheaper alternatives.

posted a message on How long will you play straight on release night?
It'll depend on whether the game is released at midnight based on my local timezone or the US timezone.

If it is based on my local timezone, then I'll probably squeeze in about an hour or so before heading off to bed. Would have an early morning class to teach the following day.

If it is based on the US timezone, then the game will be released on Wednesday at 4pm, local time. So I'll probably start playing at about 10pm and push through till 1am at the latest. Unfortunately my age has got the better of me!

posted a message on Where were you when you found out?!
I had finished teaching my last Physics class of the day. Headed home, had my dinner, spent a little play-time with my daughter and put her to bed. Well, technically I put her in bed while my wife put her to bed. Turned on my laptop to prepare a few thing for the subsequent day's classes when I decided to visit diablofans to see if anything new came up. And lo and behold! May 15th! Ran to my daughter's room like a kid, gave my wife a huge hug and told her that the game I was waiting for for 12 years or so was soon-to-be released. She wasn't all that impressed, but she understood my excitement. Of course, my 15-month old daughter sensed the excitement and got excited as well. So my wife smiled, left the room and I spent the next 1 hour trying to calm my daughter down and get her to sleep (since I obviously woke her up). That done, got on battlenet, pre-purchased the game and downloaded 7,6GB worth of files. 58 days and counting!

posted a message on Diablo 3: How would you like the story to end?
    Quote from GodsProof

Hopefully it ends with a cliff hanger for Diablo 4... then I can wait another 10 years to play that too.

Its likely to end with a build-up to the expansion to Diablo 3. If anything, the expansion would end with the cliff hanger to the 4th game in the series. And I hope there would be a 4th.

If the 2011 timeline is accurate, then hopefully I would have settled into my new apartment by then, enjoying the third installment of the Diablo franchise in the third decade of my life.

I would be expecting a 2010 release. Even if the release date gets pushed back a bit, I'll just busy myself with preparing notes and tutorials for my students!!! That ALWAYS occupies plenty of my time ;)

I like the AH system. It gives me a means of comparing the prices of items and determining its market value at any single point of time. That way you won’t be overpaying for a particular item when you know its current general selling price.
The hotbars is another good feature. That way you can access more skills easily.

Will the classic Tristram song be used for New Tristram or will they create something new? Discuss

I believe there is a thread around with a link to downloadable files to some of the music that will be in use for the game. Not sure if Tristram is included though. Have to search for the thread though.

    Quote from "Magistrate" »
AMEN AMEN AMEN! Especially not in conjunction with teleport. If it's used at all, it needs to be left with the Sorceress, and should have some limitations, as well.

I want to see Shape-Shifting again, except with more forms available. And, of course, Lightning spells, which look the best imo.

Yup shape-shifting would be great. Unfortunately in Diablo 2 I found that going down the shapeshifting tree made things a bit harder during the later stages of the game.
