Blizzard basically already had D2-style runewords when the unique/legendary crafting materials were introduced, and that was pretty widely disliked. Just substitute the names of those different crafting materials, including the white item, and it was a runeword system.
Runewords sound cool in principle (discovering the secret recipe to create powerful items), but in reality you are just looking up a list on a website, then farming over and over for the specific items you want until you can make the item. The current crafting and enchanting systems already cover the need to tailor-make items to your specific needs.
I'm not saying there's no room for Blizzard to create another end-game item hunt system, but it has to be very thoughtfully done. If players are going to spend a long time hunting for the item, then the hunt itself has to be fun or no one will want to do it.
At this point I think Blizzard should focus more on gameplay mechanics than item mechanics (other than brainstorming new legendary effects).

That's 138% of your weapon damage, not 138% of the "damage" stat on your paper doll. The paper doll stat already has things like attack speed and crit chance/damage built in. - To post a comment, please login or register a new account.

Most (not all) of the teleport runes are utility-oriented in nature, while most (not all) of the dashing strike runes are damage-oriented in nature.
If it makes you feel any better I'm sure monks are jealous of a few wizard skills...

Obviously there is a compromise to be had, you wouldn't take a 10% toughness drop just because it adds 10 armor, but in general I would say life is the least important component of toughness.

Obviously if you aren't planning on casting a given ability more than once a second (such as any cooldown and most DoTs), then IAS and attack speed in general is irrelevant. I think that a lot of people assume that skills are doing x% of the damage stat in their char sheet when that isn't the case.
