It will most likely be a real time turn based system. They have a video out that shows an early fight sequences of a jedi fighting, and between jedi and some creatures. Very similar to KOTOR I & II, but much more fluid. They have said that it is now even more fluid, and not so jerky.

    http://www.swtor.com/media/vidcasts/viddoc001

They also talk a little about their stylized look for the game in this video. The funny thing is that is sounds like they want to go the way of Blizzard, by focusing more on gameplay, story and a broad fan base unlike most other companies.

    You are correct..

They are doing an outstanding job with this product. Only problem they are facing, the engine is causing problems. This will be a delayed project..

By the way this thread was scooped a while ago..(http://www.diablofans.com/forums/showthread.php?t=15810) and it's amazing the insight some have into this particular release.. (http://www.diablofans.com/forums/showpost.php?p=362309&postcount=3)

Additionally this will not be a standard MMORPG as most believe.

Think of it as more of an online story game. They are currently building/refining more aspects of community interaction for the online play. But it will never be a fully true MMORPG such as WoW..

I personally enjoy playing with a lot less d2loaders. Especially obnoxious when you are playing Hardcore when a lot is actually at stake. Whatever your lame excuse was to use the d2loader, it is a virus that has plagued the Diablo games since the Bobafett trainer.

    Good riddance..

    NoExplanation -

I think what may have happened in your case is that your accounts were tagged with botting software. How this happened, I don't know - but it happens. This is the only thing I can think of to cause what you say happened. I have never, ever, experienced what you have any any single reset. I have never lost any of my legit items (which is 99% of everything I get) for all 8 or so years I've played.

There is no reliable source for whatever happened to you because it seems like an aberration to the ladder reset process. They specifically state what a latter reset does. I feel that you were on the receiving end of an unfavorable artifact.

Possible, but it did not happen to just me. The entire dueling community that I been socializing with were effected. I cannot speak for the "Whole", but I can assure you all my items were 100% legit, as I did not trade items and I did not use any programs, including the ones considered less hayness (Maphack).

Have an image capture of it? Sorry for your loss, but since I've never experienced it, and since I've never heard of it before, that doesn't sound truthful.

No, as it was at least 10 computer format/builds ago.

    Quote from "Magistrate" »
Yep, I was playing in late 2000 and don't recall this at all. Maybe it just only targeted certain players, but I can tell you it never happened to me.

Possible Error on timeline, I believe it was 2002, it was before the 1.10 changes because they had just released the new information on it.

..Calling other people's posts "BS" is trolling, and, technically, flaming. I could quote the rules and everything, but that would be off topic. If you want to continue this aspect of the conversation, please PM me.

    Your right, my apologies.

Diablo II isn't going to a new system. Diablo III and Starcraft II are being instituted in new systems. Diablo II, I, and Starcraft I are not being put in new systems.

Never said it would get the full system. Just an update that would coincide with the newer system going in. The statement from Blizzard was for the game as it currently stands, it does not make mention to all patches to come.

I was never arguing that the new games would work on the new system. I said that the old games are not going to work on the new system. They're still going to operate the same way and aren't getting new servers.

As far as 1.13, my original post was a what I wanted to see and I still feel it is quite "possible".

Please cite some sources, credible ones, with numbers and facts from companies directly associated with Blizzard and/or Battle.net.

I don't have a web link or direct credible source but I can tell you from experience and play time it was during one of the 1.09 sub patches that occurred after mass "Ith" items and duping system plagued the servers.

The additionally added to the wipe, new account system that deleted old accounts and the 11 day character or less deletion.

    Quote from "Magistrate" »
I never said anything was infinite. I never even said it was absolute. However, based on my 9 years of playing Diablo II on Battle.net, this has happened with every single new ladder reset. Please be careful how you chose to phrase what you say- you're trolling at the moment. All I'm offering is friendly and respectful feedback.

To split hairs, when you use always, it is an infinite.

Additionally in your 9 years perhaps you do not remember this particular character wipe but it was a wipe. I lost 6 accounts of legit gear and items from Hardcore US West. They were not bumped down to a "non ladder class", they were completely erased.

Since that incident I cannot give you specifics as this was roughly 2002 when it happened. and I did not start playing again until late 2007. In addition, I have been a member to this site and a contributer to this site since before the swap from diablo3 to diablofans, so I not seeing how I could even remotely be considered a "Troll".

If all you are offering is a respectful feedback then perhaps you should attempt to do that insted of wishing to discredit, because you weren't aware.

    Quote from "Magistrate" »
..There's also no need for it. Do not put words in my mouth. A mass character wipe? Source please. Once again, from a reliable source in affiliation with Blizzard and/or Battle.net. The one you cited only gave information regarding new servers to Diablo III and Starcraft II, not Diablo II or anything made earlier.

There is no source. This was an educated guess on my part. I had worked in the computer gaming industry for a little over 7 years. I do have a bit of insight when it comes to changing all new systems.

It has been Blizzards plan to launch Starcraft 2 onto a new Battle.net platform. The old system is not nearly advanced enough to support the new. I am not going to do your research for you, there are plenty of topics of this within the Blizzard starcraft 2 forums. If you wish for a link, I suggest you look there.

My educated guess would be that this would include Diablo 3 since they will roughly be launched within a close enough time frame that would support both games. It would only make sense this way, as it would cost way to much to have two different online server platforms.

    Quote from "Magistrate" »
We aren't getting any new server with Diablo II. Please cite the article. We've never experienced a character wipe with new patches- some of them, the major ones, have come with ladder resets so that characters that have items or statistical abnormalities are wiped from the ladder and cast in to nonladder, where they cannot affect or interact with ladder characters.

The last reset was in late June. The one before that was in September of the preceding year (the last ladder was a little less than a year, which is what led a lot of people, including myself, on this site to speculate that they were working on something).

I specifically remember one ladder lasting almost two years. I believe that was the one with the major 3-day rust storm when no one could join any games.

There is nothing directly related from Blizzard to support my guess. The only thing that I offer as circumstantial evidence to the possiblility of, is the recent changes they have added to the new battle.net site.

It would appear to me they are currently looking for a new system to incorporate all their games and to add accountability.

    Supporting circumstantial evidence:

    • Encrypted HL_Keys
    • Adding Account Key support to Battle.net
    • Increasing account Bans for users caught with 3rd party programs
Lastly, I may be a bit edgy and abrassive, but I am deffinately not a troll. I have had my boughts with a few others on this site. A few have been with now moderators (Equinox, she's still one of my favorites). All have been with one key importance, to add information to this site.

My posts sole purpose was to correct that it has not been "always" and that my insight is that it could very well be possible.

We don't need a char wipe if we get as reset, NoExplanation- all ladder characters always become nonladder, and so effectively don't interfere with ladder characters at all, anyway.

They do not "always" become non ladder. There have been a few times where they have wiped accounts. I would not attempt to correct someone, especially if you are going to offer up that BS statement as an infinite.

With the addition of the new server system they are implementing for upcoming Starcraft 2 and Diablo 3, there is no reason that they would not patch Diablo 2 in to test it out. (http://www.battle.net/)

This would add more accountability over all with "CD-Cracks" accountability for user accounts and the start of weeding out the hacks and exploits in preparation for the upcoming releases.

Character wiping is not as far fetched or impossible as you make it seem. They have done it before, I suspect they will do it again. Especially if it is conjunction with a new server release and account handling.

So what does everyone not only hope, but think will come of this patch?

Overhaul on the Battle.net system to the new Battle.net with server protection from hacks, exploits and 3rd party macro programs.

Character wiping and new ladder progression.

Some minor re-balancing of character specs and more rune word gear.

I also had on a riding jacket complete with a light back padding and built in elbow skid pads, which did its job considering i had no cuts on my midsection nor elbows, just bruises all through out my midsection

Could be that the thread title was changed, but I don't see why it should have been.

Well when I read the thread and posted, I remember it being from a completely different account than Umpa65. Now when you attempt to go to the 2 separate forums they are linked together to the one thread. The threads are posted below and my comment was made for that Zogar fellow..

    Hellgate Closure ( 1 2)

    Moved: Remember Hellgate: London? Well...
    Zogar

I believe someone deleted the post by the user and just linked that thread to this one. But then again I could have been struck real hard in the head and making all this up.

This was his opening post and it appears to have been merged into this thread..
...All their servers will be shutting down on 1/31/09. The game is officially over, dead and gone. It's one of the biggest failures in recent gaming history.

Now, the reason I'm mentioning this is because of all the flack that company (Flagship Studios) gave us over the years for believing there would eventually be a true Diablo 3. They tried very hard to convince everyone that HG:L essentiallly was Diablo 3 and that the whole Diablo fan base should bow down before Flagship Studios. Sadly it worked for a time. Anyone who checked out these forums prior to Diablo 3 officially being announced can attest to the back and forth arguments between HG:L viral marketers/rabid fanboys and people that wanted a true Diablo game. Now that the real Diablo 3 is coming and HG:L and Flagship Studios have gone under...well, let's just say that karma's a bitch. Not to sound harsh for celebrating their failure, but they were the reason why any serious attempt to discuss Diablo 3 on the internet (before it was unveiled) was just about impossible because everyone thought HG:L = Diablo 3.

I'm pleased with with everything I've heard so far.

The one area that bothers me is the art style. It's terrible. You think they would have realized that the Clone War movie and tv series are not exactly loved because of their cartoon like art direction. They should have made this gritty and realistic like the other KotoR games.

Yes, I too would have liked to have seen a higher poly/less cartoonish graphics. One of the issues I know, their developers are faced with the decision of frame rates and playability. They figured they rather sacrifice the higher graphic element for better performance. In essence, they are taking the WoW approach.

Other game manufacturers are doing similar concepts..

http://www.champions-online.com/ <-- I do like their style. Lower polies and still has a great comic feel to it.
