Just because it's not dark, it doesn't have to look all gay and cartoonish.
Lord of the Rings as rolemodel?
It looks gay and cartoonish ? Get a clue.
He continued: Diablo I and Diablo II are darker, and I think that the one of the main reasons why is the fact that in Diablo I, you're basically in a dungeon the whole time. And in contrast to Diablo III, you'll be exploring outdoors, you'll be in dungeons, you'll be experiencing so many different areas. We want to bring as much variety as we can when you're playing the game so that you're excited to check out new environments. We don't want everything to look the same and that's really what we're trying to aim for.
From what he typed, he said there will be contrast, Dark, Light, Colors, Environments, variety of Tilesets. That's what I like to read, Titan Quest did a good job of that, Hellgate:London did a bad job of that, and that's the kind of dark game people seem to want. Hellate used such Gloomy, Dark, Bland, Reptitive, Recycled tilesets from the 1st Act to the Last Act, I completely lost interest in the game before I could even finish it as short and badly produced as it was. I'm glad Diablo 3 will have viareity. It also helps make it more refreshing and addicting.
Let me ask u all a question. What is scarier. A emotionless rotten corpse, or a rotten corpse with an evil smile?
Imagine we went back in time, and this WWI showed Diablo II, not III. Would you want to see how an amazon attacks in the catacombs, or out in the open?
Apply this logic to Diablo III, and you will see what Blizzard sees.
The biggest problem is the "full screen glow" that they carelessly threw into the Diablo universe. It doesn't belong there. It makes WoW look like glowy fairy fantasy land, which is fine for some, but it does not work in Diablo. A couple critical examples where fullscreen glow is clearly implemented (and how it looks when the ridiculous effect is removed, contrast is adjusted, and the textures are UNBLURRED):
Look at the stone disks the barbarian is standing on, and the stone circle surrounding him. Look at how crisp and detailed they appear when fixed. The foggy area in the top left is messed up by the process that the fan used to correct the shot, but Blizzard clearly has the means to fix that if a simple fan could make this screenshot so much better.
Look at the crisp texture of every stone block that makes up the bridge, at the toes of the broken statue's left foot. Full screen glow absolutely ruins the detail and setting. You've got to be blind to disagree with that one! Look at the corpse of the goatman a few feet behind the barbarian. Tell me the first one looks better. Seriously, how any true diablo fan can support this WoW-loving stylistic catastrophe is completely beyond me.

-If I want D3 to look n feel like WOW -I'll play WOW.
-if I want D3 to the look and feel like Guild Wars, then I'll just play Guild Wars instead !
Diablo IS a "DARK" game, its supposed to be. Yes, of course, improve the "technology" of the game. but don't change that magical formula which made Diablo the greatest RPG game ever !
I don't think these Diablo III Producers are in a position to "JUSTIFY" anything.
We ALL are the consumers of Diablo, we pay their over-bloated salaries, WE are their bosses -what don't they get. ?!!!
-stooopid mgmt fools is all that these so-called DIII Producers are.
hey!, don't nickel 'n dime me, give me the quality of D3 that I demand -don't worry we'll pay for it.
