I was in a bit of a hurry earlier, so let me explain why I think these actors/actresses would be good as these characters.
Barbarian - Jay Cutler would be a great barbarian since he is friggin huge, since he won mr olympia he is an obvious choice. And he has a very "Arnold" personality, very easy going, but very badass at the same time. Dominic Purcell would also be a good Barbarian since he is in really good shape, he would of course have to bulk up a bit more, but he is a very good actor. Paladin - Djimon Hounsou would be the perfect Paladin because he is imo the best black actor out there, but for some reason he still isn't being used in a whole lot of films. You would know him from Blood Diamond. Will Smith would be decent since he is in really good shape, and if he took on an accent and dropped the Philly attitude, he would be a great fit. Oh yeah, and he can act kinda ok. Sorceress - Parker Posey is an amazing actress. Her bigger films were Blade Trinity, Superman Returns, The Eye, and Broken English. She can play a variety of characters, and has a dark side to her which would suit the mage clan very well. Amazon - Gwenyth Paltrow is a fantastic actress who can play anything. I chose her since it would be a good change to her normal roles. She is also always in good shape. She may not be classified as the fighter type, but she commits herself to her roles fully. Carrie-Anne Moss would be good as the Amazon since she has done some action roles (Matrix series, Red Planet). And she is also very talented in other genres such as Memento and Disturbia. Necromancer - Johnny Depp has the look, and the personality of a Necromancer. He plays dead or dying people easily, and would probably steal the film. I also chose him because it is time he and Brad Pitt do another film together.:D Although, realistically, he would probably never take this role since it will be a blockbuster, and the only other blockbusters he has done were Pirates and Willy Wonka. Woody Harrelson would be crazy good for this role too, since he is badass and would play the Necro very crazily. Another brilliant actor, watch Natural Born Killers and No Country for Old Men Assassin - Lucy Liu, I shouldn't need to say why she would be perfect. Patricia Velasquez was Anck Su Namun in the Mummy movies. She has an interesting look, and even though she is latino, she could easily play a middle eastern/asian role. She is a good actress, even though she isn't used much at all. Druid - Brad Pitt, well I think he has the gruff and buff look for this kind of character. I would have picked Hugh Jackman, but the character could be too much like Wolverine. Ryan Reynolds could also be a very good actor for this role, since he is rough and tough actor who would look good in fur, and he is a very talented actor.
In summation, all of these actors/actresses are good at what they do, and are easy to work with (according to other actors/directors). And most of them haven't been used in very many films recently.
eeww, no way. Whoever plays the characters I would prefer to be fairly unkown actors, or at least ones without attitude. Celebrities have the potential to ruin it. Sure, you can have some slight celebrities like LotR, but NOT Vin Diesel or Will Smith or Brad Pitt - they have too much attitude. And not actors that are either bad at acting or don't suit the part - like Hally Berry, Johnny Depp (Necro's aren't crazy lol, he's only good at playing crazy characters), and Gwenyth Paltrow is not the warrior-type.
But Lucy Liu is the only one that I know of and sounds alright.
There are plenty of actors out there, you don't have to go for the known ones. Sure, there are also plenty of bad actors, they shouldn't be chosen either.
qft
but Djimon Hounsou is the perfect PERFECT choice for the paladin.
Just thought about this.. ARNOLD! for the barbarian!
"where you going barbarian! "Making a town portal.. I'll be back"
LMAO hahah wow that is easliy the funniest Arnold line I've heard in a while. Hmmm... thought just occurred... in European history the barbarians were the ones that settled Europe and had that Austrian/w/e accent so Arnold actually wouldnt be a bad idea

UPDATE:Now the Legendary Pictures homepage has been changed. They have removed Diablo from their under development projects. What gives? it was there, along with World of Warcraft.
Believe it or not, Legendary Pictures has just announced that they are making a movie based on the Diablo series by Blizzard. No word on who will be directing the movie (or writing it or starring in it for that matteR), but if Uwe Boll has any involvement, I say we Diablo fans riot in the streets.
If you ask me, the announcement of this movie brings up three big questions:
1) Will this have any effect on when Blizzard will announce the next Diablo game?
2) Will this be a good movie or will it fall under the "video game movie" curse?
3) How will they handle the Secret Cow Level? Let's face it, if the axe-wielding cows aren't somewhere in the movie, it won't be worth watching.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------- I have seen a trademark for it once. "Diablo: Salvation" I think it was titled. I'll update if none find it again. -cyks
hey i just checked the Legendary Pictures website and I didn't find anything for a Diablo movie.... I saw one mentioning Warcraft though. If you could post the link from where you saw it you could clear up my confusion.

With the new site scheme, the 'Update' text at the top is hard to read, but it actually has the answer right there for you in the quote that you just quoted. If you highlight it just after the word 'Update' you can see that it says:
"Now the Legendary Pictures homepage has been changed. They have removed Diablo from their under development projects. What gives? it was there, along with World of Warcraft."
I wish they didn't take it down
The new scheme is a bit annoying in these situations, unfortunately.
Haha i just came up with a brillant idea for Cain... Sean Connery. I don't care what anyone else would think he has the same voice hands down. Also, what about the persian chick from The 13th Warrior Mina E. Mina. Shes freakin hot plus she kicks ass. She'd make a great assassin. A chinese chick is to stereotypical for an assassin.

This is an interesting thread to discuss in about actors, storyline etc.
Just to turn this into another direction. I don't know whether anyone else mentioned this (jumped to last page), but it sounds like a good idea to me to make the movie fully computer animated.

The Barbarian is from Arreat, a very cold snowy mountain top, but they are much tougher than normal humans, so they don't need warmth.

Where are Barbarians originally from? Sumeria, or more specifically Mesopotamia, AKA Europe. Think the Alps and the Pyrenees

Fully computer animated isn't a bad idea but then you'll turn out with something like Beowulf. If you take the idea of 3D and human interaction then it would be a better idea. Sorta like Men In Black.

Some 20-year old movies have computer generated effects. It wasn't MiB that started it. You must be a fan
Under fully animated I didn't mean 'just voice over'. I meant those movement suits.
A combination of real footage and effects would probably seem 'most lifelike'. As it has been done in the past.
Even today's praised movies like '300' for example doesn't really have lifelike effects. They might be cool, but they'd be cooler if I would actually believe in what I was seeing.
I don't know if there is a movie out there where SGI characters, animals and so-fort look real enough. They could make it better, but my guess is time and money limitaions. When I watch a good movie and see a really bad effect it just ruines it for me.
Why shouldn't the Diablo movie have a more visually cartoony feel to it. Yeah, Beowulf seems to be a good example, but what I would like to see in Diablo would be a more visible edge to it. More detail, sharpness in the textures. Fuzzy isn't good. Doesn't really have to be lifelike. Could be somewhat Anime. Like an unfinished painting.

And yes I am a fan of MiB:) and of course i know that many older movies ahd CGI in them, MiB was the first thing i thought of. The MiB make up was what i was thinking D3 should be like.

Agreed, I don't know if you watched Lost but when they try to "animate" a polar bear it was probably the most pathetic thing I've ever seen. Dragonheart didn't do a bad job at animation or the latest one Eragon. Also, whoever did the animation for Serenity would have my vote to do animations because that just floored me.

The anime direction of Diablo would be a big NO in my books because then you don't get the feeling of watching something creepy. Diablo has a huge demonic feeling around it and anime just wouldn't give me the feeling of "holy crap this is scary"(in a good way).
I like where this conversation is going.

What kind of film style would people Diablo to be?
Regular Hollywood style? (Pirates of the Caribbean)
Expressionist? (Sweeny Todd - focusing on the awesome set design and costumes)
Film Noir? (Sin City - has a real dark comic-book feel to it)
Neorealism? (Traffic - really raw realistic footage, almost like a documentary)
or an Animation? (Beowulf - completely animated)
Edit: If Blizzard are gonna make it, I'm assuming they would go for the Hollywood style, because that guarentees the largest audience - and thats what Blizzard always does, they target the largest audience possible. They are the game industry's version of Hollywood lol.
I like what they did with Sin City, only have colour lol. Maybe a Sin City style with a Pirates twist.

That is cool, a Diablo movie, awesome. They should have weta Workshops working on it, and it should be based on the Sin Wars. It would be cool watching Demons fight the angels. The Burning Hells Vs. The High Heavens.
Diablo=Lord of Terror GOD=TOTAL DESTRUCTION!!!!!!!!
Mephisto=Lord of Hatred No one will be able to stop the High
Baal=Lord of Destruction Heavens!!!!!!!

It's the decisions you make when you have no time to make them that define who you are.
It would have to be dark and brooding to be any good in my opinion.I'm thinking a mix of Requiem for a Dream, Sweeny Todd and LOTR would be perfect.
And Blizzard are hardly the game's industry's version of Hollywood, that would be EA.
Also, Lucy Liu is a terrible actress.Yes, she's good at action stuff to an extent but come on don't you expect more from a Diablo movie?
True about Lucy Liu, although she would be a good Assassin, the more I think about it, I agree with not having an asian chick being the Assassin.
Requiem for a Dream is kind of the right dark style, but too much of a bizarre and hallucinational style.
I could see some of the really dark scenes from Sweeny Todd, such as the final scene. But the movie does have the correct amount of blood.:D
If it looked anything like LOTR I would be ROYALLY PISSED!!! Those movies are way too bright. Maybe if they had a look similar to the scenes with the Baelrog, I could accept it.
I want it to have 3 things from these movies:
Braveheart - Full scale slaughter with epic amounts of blood and dismembered bodies. I would only expect one fight that took place on a wide open field. The rest of the fighting should take place inside an ancient cathedral, or some kind of enclosed space.
U-571 -
It should have this kind of non-stop intensity. After the first 30 minutes, the movie never lets up, and you are always on the edge of your seat waiting for the next depth charge. I would also like the movie to be about 2h30, but a very intense 2h30 with maybe only 2 times for the audience to relax a tiny bit. The audience should feel physically exhausted after the movie. If you had read one of my screenplays I'm writing, I would say it should be a lot like it, but Diablo should probably be just a tad bit less intense.
Alien - Claustrophobic tight quarter fights, but it should be taken up a few notches. You should expect skeletons, zombies, and demons at every turn. But the best scare will be the one demon jumping out when everyone feels safe and comfortable, one of the main characters should die at this point. Possibly having a limb chewed off, or throat sliced. But it should be a mix between the Troy and Sweeny Todd kind of neck slice, but with much louder sound effects. GURGLING BLOOD IS A NECESSITY!! We should also have been really attached to this character. Possibly the most liked character, such as the Paladin, Barbarian, or Sorceress (I vote Sorc:D).
Every hero should come out injured. None come out unscathed.

There, I'm done.
I love the Alien idea. Although i think AVP: Requiem did it the best when they were in the hospital and all of a sudden the chick gets pinned to the wall by the Predator weapon!! Nearly crapped my pants that was so unexpected. This movie just has to be raw, blood-thirsty, and down right disgusting. I would say a mix between Starship Troopers (crap movie i know), Alien, and Predator. I only threw Starship Troopers in there for the gore effect ;).
