Sick exsists in Diablo 2, as Diablo 3 hasn't been released yet.
Sick has an occasional member on the game, but mostly it is the last few members on the forum.
SICK doesn't do shit anymore. They like to roleplay in their little guild threads from time to time, talking about ranks and duties and such. Besides that, SICK has no real substance or purpose.
He was chosen as he was the most popular user at the time, having won the very first "who is your favourite member" poll. I held the record for the most posts at the time, and still do. I was not present in the poll as I was still new to many people at the time, yes that is despite my high post total at the time.
And his name is Silversurfnstud. or rather SilVerSurFnStud, there is no apostrophes in his name.
I assume by history you are referring to online personas, as in actually there is not much that can be said. He is a user here with a large group of friends.
The whole living deity status thing is a long running gag between 3 friends, Silversurfnstud (naturally), myself Elfen lied, and a member that is no longer here Kingpin202. It one of the many, many who is your fav member threads, kingpin and I were joking around with the concept of silversurfnstudology. That is the study of Silversurfnstud.
It was a series of no more than 6 or 7 posts that proved to be quite entertaining to all who read them. Whether or not the posts are still here I cannot recall, but basically they revolved around the concept of one obtaining a doctorate, degree and bachelors in the field of studying Silversurfnstud.
From that series of posts a cult-like following emerged and Silversurfnstudology became Silversurfnstudism, to in a way, sound more like a religion, even though it clearly wasn't, and was admitted to be so by all, save those who couldn't see it was a joke. I have no idea how you couldn't see it as anything but a joke.
Through many months of boredom from waiting for news some of us, who were avid role players, particularly in the realm of Medieval fantasy, took the concept of Silversurfnstudism, and merged it with other concepts from various sources (mostly medieval fantasy in nature), this had the effect of making him seem less like someone who thought himself to be some sort of super powerful being, though he never really thought of himself one in the first place.
Borrowing primarily from such things as Dungeons and Dragons and Warhammer, Silversurfnstud changed from being seen as the only God, to a god among many. Just one in a pantheon of gods. As gods in such games usually have very devout followers, one who usually occupy temples and churches, so to became the case with those who called themselves followers of Silversurfnstud. borrowing against from medieval fantasy, the followers of Silversurfnstud began to, at least according to the fictional backstory given (again out of bordom) resemble a monasteral militant order, much like The Knights of the Order of the Radiant Heart in Dungeons and Dragons or the Knights Temlar or Knights Hospitilar, or even the Zakarum church in Diablo.
This is pretty much were the Order of the Silver Inferno Crusading Knights came from.
Silver from Silversurfnstud.
Inferno from the name of the very first guild in Diablo 1.
Crusading Knights as that is what they viewed themselves as. Much like the Crusaders in Jerusalem.
The guild experienced a high point for a while, with a good solid amount of people, not all of whom embraced the whole Role Playing aspect, yet neither were they expected or forced to. But over time it's numbers dwindled, and it feel into disrepute, with nothing but the hope that DIablo 3 will restore it to its former height of activeness. Only time will tell if that will be true.
Here's hoping. Man those were some awesome 8 man games in Diablo 2. And some pretty intense games of Starcraft and Warcraft. Pity I only got Broadband after the guild virtually died.
This has all been said before on many occasions by the way.
Do you have a minimum post requirement of 8 paragraphs? I don't see how you do it, man. But I admire it =].

No. I suffer from delusions of eloquence. It is somewhat similar to delusions of grandeur. Essentially I over extent points, often with large words and/or more words that what would normally be required. This does have an adverse effect in that people either misread, or fail to read my posts, which annoys me to no end, and often requires me to repeat myself.
Another contributing factor is some questions that I find myself answering require more that one paragraph. If there was a quicker way to explain in full, the history behind Silversurfnstud, I would have at least attempted to do so. However there is not. I could have condensed several portions of it yes, but that would make it vague and possibly hard to understand, or worse force me to leave parts out. That was what I was trying my best not to do, leave anything out.
He wanted the history, as he did not specify he wanted a condensed version, I assumed he wanted the full, or rather as detailed as possible, version of the history. And when it comes to the history of Silversurfnstud, no one know it better than I, infact if you had read my earlier posts, you would know that is beyond question, as I wrote the book on Silversurfnstud so to speak.
On a side note I have a small distaste for short posts. Especially vague ones. If an answer requires more than one word or sentence then I will answer accrodingly. It comes, in part from informing people about the lore of Diablo. It is quite hard to explain some parts without exceeding 3 or even 4 paragraphs. I could I guess make it one, but then it would probably just be a wall of hard to read text.
Grammar is important to some of us.

-Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is alchemy's First Law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only, truth.
There are quite a few attempts. However those they are in SICK seem to be largely inactive. So what happens is a few people suggest an idea, say jump on a game and spam a recruiting message, people agree, but only a few actually do it. The few people that do get recruited via such a method end up replacing old members, rather than adding to the total number.
People are leaving in larger numbers than what is coming in. Either the sum total of this attempt is a direct swap of an inactive for new, which does little, but is good, or it is a negative result, that is like I said more out that in.
If you wish to discuss attempts or ideas to recruit new members here is a thread where you can see what has been tried before.
Suggesting ideas that failed is probably not a good idea, unless of course you can think of a way to improve that idea.
As Death said, there's just nothing that intrigues new members. New members, or potential members, look at this site and see a ragtag group of people. There is no focused aim, no objective, no goal or mission statment.
In order for a guild to suceed, you need membership recruitment. In order to have membership recruitment there has to be people playing the game. However, when I set my bot up, on average, I see Necro and Genesis in your op channel. You need more then two people on during an entire day. Yes, you have people with different schedules, that's normal. But you need to at least spend a half an hour to an hour at the very least a day on the game before you declare that you have failed.
That is one of the biggest problems I see. Aside from the lack of any aim, there is no willingness to participate. You must recruit if you expect to exsist. (And no, most of your recruits will not come to these forums. They are not interested in some random forums, they are interested in Diablo, that's why they are playing it.)
Fuck, three paragraphs, I'm turning into Elfen.

Okay, disregarding everything after Elfen's spiel on Silversurfnstud's 'god-like' being on the astral realm of fourms and battle.net, I understand now what this has become, and I am less indifferent to your less than vigorous guild than I want to be. So if you ever need an extra member, I'm not going anywhere. And, oh yes - to be frank, well, I would have to change my name.
