The Wizard trailer is perhaps the corniest I've ever seen in any video game. "Prepare to serve my master for all eternity..muhahaha" or something similar..I mean..what the hell? That's just plain sad. Diablo 3 is looking - and not to complain - like one of those games that offer plenty of eye candy, but a person can't help but get bored after playing through it 5 or 6 times. I haven't gotten board from playing through LoD 50 or 60 times, nevertheless 5 or 6. They should be thinking about making a game that will stand the test of time, and the test of hardcore Diablo fans. I think the major difference now with this game is that they're trying to please the hardcore fans (and partially failing at that), and the general, mainstream, public so as to attract new players of the game (which is ridiculous, really..I don't blame them, it's just silly and ridiculous). When you try to pull off two feats such as those, you nearly always tend to fail. Both sides will still be asking for more. Why not fully please one side, rather than partially please both? I think the more important side here is the hardcore Diablo fan, since almost everyone who has played it, has become one..and we all know that's a realy high number of players, which translates to a crapload of sales for Blizzard, who are already taking baths in 100$ bills. I've only seen so little of the game, but I honestly can't bring myself to think or say that it's the dream sequel I've been waiting for all this time..and trust me, it's been a frikkin' long time, and I don't want to be even slightly dissappointed. All I can do is hope for the best..and the best is practically a longshot at this stage, in my opinion. I may be wrong though. Unlikely, but possible nontheless.
It's not gritty, it doesn't have light radius, there is green and purple light from nowhere. Also environment and character models are not realistic and less detailed. Wepons and magics have too shiny glowing effects. Removal of potions, customizable stats, old skill system, runes, runewords, charms, socketed gems, immunities, diablo's formerlook, creepy music etc etc.
Yeah it will be great game, but it won't ring with Diablo like Bill Roper said.
This is my opininon.
I want to hear something. What did Jay Wilson do before? Did he designed a successful game?

Lol, seriously? And you don't even know that the line comes from D1?
Its funny how so many disregard what Bill has to say "because he made a pretty weak game".
I lost a lot of respect for Bill Roper when he let Hellgate sink, since I bought it. That's just a personal feeling of mine, has nothing to do with D3.
I do still feel like he acted a little jilted about D3. Bringing up the art direction after ALL this time.
It just reopened a unnecessary can of worms.
In any event I never mentioned the art debate or direction in my post. I just got the feeling he seemed a little sour about it all.

It wasn't corny in D1, and it ain't corny in D3.
Are you seriously comparing the time of release of D1 to now? Back then, whatever you said could have been embraced since it was all fashionably new. Now it's..silly.

I think its ridiculous to negate the obvious differences, in fact i wouldn't call anyone not being able to at least acknowledge their existence true fans, more like ignorant fanboys.

So they should change Leoric's catch phrase because the game is being released in a more modern time? If they bring back Butcher, should they change his "ahh, fresh meat" into something more appropriate for the year 2010?

Both phrases are canon to the game and thus are still appropriate.
Roper is saying what he expects people want to hear (Its always been part of his job and persona). Diablo 3 will not be the same Diablo we have all loved for the past 10+ years and that is to be expected since it's being done by different people. The basics of the series will still be there along with the established canon, but it's a new team and they have a different perspective of success now thanks to WoW. This is neither good nor bad to me. Those who simply want another Diablo 2 should just go play D2 or a nice mod and be done with it. I welcome these new graphics, bolder animations, and a different approach to the game that have been presented to us thus far.
I would imagine that things will start clicking together in the relative future for us Diablo fans as more information is given to us at GDC, E3, WWI, and Blizzcon.

<shrugs>
It's not that exact quote.
In D1 it was "The warmth of life has entered my tomb. Prepare yourself, mortal, to serve my Master for eternity!"
And FUCK the graphics. It's all about gameplay.

Lol, yeah that is very different.
