Project XII of Hellforge has compiled a quick list of top ten of the dumbest features that made it into Diablo II, including the terrible nerfing of the Barbarian's Whirlwind skill (despite community uproar) to the horribly unimaginable but barely remembered Golden Axe-inspired "Thief" monster ability that all but lasted a single patch. There was nothing worse than losing your hard earned Windforce to an imp.
Here's hoping that current team has learned from the mistakes of Blizzard North, Diablo's original creators (which became the now-defunct Flagship Studios) and listen to their community for it most certainly be watching closely.
It was in one of the early versions of Diablo 2. I don't recall it being in the unpatched game. It's something that they added and then removed a few months after.
Blizzard North had a bad habit in Diablo II of implementing changes nobody asked for, not listening to player feedback (IT'S JUST A VOCAL MINORITY OMG!) and making nerfs where none were needed.
Cases in point: Extended Durance. Buriza-do-Kyanon being made superpowerful in 1.08 and then even more powerful despite a barrage of complaints in 1.09. The list goes on.
Could probably make a list of 100 worst features if you wanted to.
The dumbest feature for me was when they added random monsters to act V.
Hmm, what's better...to install the patch and have synergies or do not install the patch and spare myself from looking at random desert ugliness running across the snow, ruining my act V experience.
Monsters stealing items off you? I honestly do not remember this at all. I played on Bnet through every patch and saw all the nutty hacks and dupes back then but never once can recall this hmmmmm does anyone else remember it?
i disagree with the "bugged" drop one.
with random drops you get random drops.
that measn that some could be absolutley disgustingly bad.
the great marsh was ok.
it was probably just noticed because the map usually generated the flayer jungle right next to the spider forest.
as for isenharts, not everyone is 1337sauce. noobs need items too.
It is quite sad that they somehow list getting 6x Isenharts in 1 game, when the game won't even let it drop more than 1 of each item per game, I could be wrong though.
lasted 2 patches actually, Lord De Seis stole items and pots on v1.0, then just pots on v1.01 and after that it was removed. Was quite funny actually, one moment you have your weapon, the other you didnt. And when you manage to kill him he drops it identified. Was a shock when he stole my Ume's back then
if they included the nerf on WW why would they not include the nerf of the guided arrow + pierce nerf. that was the most epic combo of skills ever and they made it suck
Yea, but they put the "From the Makers of Diablo 2 tag" on their product anyways.
And Blizzard has done the same thing with their want ads stating "From the team..."
It is a blatant misrepresentation in both cases, and anyone even slightly familiar with the history (or able to spend fifteen seconds on 'mobygames') knows it. I would just hope someone writing a lead paragraph on a fan forum would know better.
And from those people, came Hellgate: London - One of the largest flops I've seen in a long time.
I wouldn't want them making Diablo III, either. I prefer the newest version of the Diablo team better than any of the previous ones.
I don't now if you missed my point, but "they" were only a small part of the team that made D2 - Ten at most from a team of over fifty people.
And for all of their faults, they made D2 in less than half of the time that has gone by since LoD was released. And how can you prefer a team that has given you nothing but a demo at a trade show eight years later? Do you love hype more than actual games?
Speaking of Isenhart, my bestfriend and myself hated that set

Its actually quite less but yeah i agree, most of the member ain't there. Alone you are nothing but as a guide to lead the way. It doesn't mean you will prevail as you have before.
That was pathedic. Horrible read this time. Those were aweseom features and stamina pots saved my life on numerous occasions. WW was a bad ass skill. Great marsh is prerty cool how you think people complete the countess without going there. Countess some nice exp in normal. That was a vary crappy read im sorry. It sounds like you played it and never really enjoyed the game at all. I honestly like the old patches better it was harder and more of a challenge.

Nihlathak was one of the only interesting people to fight in the entire game. And killing him despite the corpse explosion wasn't a "challenge" at all. It was a challenge. If HC players can't really devise a strategy for him, then I suggest they use this next time.
