Oooohhh...probably being porposed but how about a kind of Warhammer Witch Hunter?!!?
Sword and gun/crossbow...
Add some dual wielding and a cool hat, long trench and a monocle/single eyeglass...
I'd play that!
This is exactly the type of class I would like to play within the Diablo universe. Mysterious, and more assassin-like as opposed to that of an epic character, who manages to pick up a bow and blow holes through walls twenty miles away.
EDIT: Hmm, no wonder I like this so much, I already suggested it a few pages over yonder.
The Janissary (name can be different) would be perfect as a dark "mercenary" class, because it could function between a paladin class, rogue class, and ranged class, depending on how it is outfitted. The key would be to arrange the skill tree so that the skills would be relevant to multiple builds/equips. (this is not my art...obviously it would look cooler).
The way i think of it is imagine a musketeer (w/o musket) who spent some time in japan to train in ninjitsu, and then came back through mongolia and into the middle east/Ottoman empire to fight as a mercenary for cash. Can use small bucklers with bows.
Could be a "dark" class...maybe developed a use for a range of good/evil spells/energy
In terms of skills:
Roguish:
Fog of War: Ninja smokebomb that blinds/slows enemies with smoke and cripples with schrapnel (could be runed up to clusterbomb/grenade or something)
Camouflage/Shapeshift: Can take form of enemies and move undetected for an amount of time
Poison Clasp: tiny explosive device with poison needles that can be planted on enemies to kill them after a few seconds
Paladinesque:
Death by 1,000 cuts: Medium-fast multi-strike with sword to multiple targets in an acrobatic way (like Zorro or something)
Black Lotus/Focus: Brief state/buff that slows time *a bit* and gradually returns to normal speed over a minute or so...boosts agility, block stats, reduces casting cost
Ranged-like:
Legionnaire: Multi-weapon combo "state" where reserve ranged weapon is automatically fired (on click) for targets beyond a certain range, and melee is used for close-range. Crit chance increases during this time. Possible "long-term" mana drain depending on lvl. (i.e. lower levels experince greater mana cost/sec)
Assassinate: Ranged attack with 99% chance of critical hit with modifiers for bosses and champions that causes a longer "wind-up" or targeting phase that is disturbed by both movement and getting attacked depending on the "strength" of the target.
I couldn't really think of holy/unholy stuff aside from possible auras and/or spells of some kind...any suggestions?
Oh yea! Maybe some Djinn magic/summoning or genie stuff...some blessings/curses that function like auras
id love to see a bard in D3 but it seems slightly improbable *sadfacee*
then with the whole 'knight' concept, just being traditional here but i just cant see a sincre female knight class
the ranger seems to...typical ?
i just dont think it will be a straight up range class with lack of magical abilities
id love to see a primarily ranged type char with auras and whatnot (like a majority of others) it just seems to work best
and then theres the whole vampire thing
lol.
and a druid-type char will highly unlikely be making a grand entrance into the new world of santuary as i think blizzard would much rather create a char with more creativity involved, rather than going "okay, lets make this guy cooler"
btw. who/what are the pictures of in the artwork pages in diablo3.com ..the two after the ones of the wizard?
for the unreleased class i doubt it will be a class that already exists in world of warcraft....
they are not going to be like "and the moment you have been waiting for, the class you have been so eager to see! THE ROGUE!" highly doubt that it will be a rogue, it could possibly be a class like the rogue and i dont think it will be a druid either for the same reasons. I am really baffled when i think about what class it will be. i really think it will be something new that we have not yet played. And i honestly see the monk as the rogue class of the game, or at least for now. He is quick and kills things smooth and swiftly. There is 2 ranged and 2 melee classes so it could go either way, which is why im so confused.
Imo first thing you need to do is to look what weapons and armors are already mainly used by other classes.
Heavy maces, axes and probaly swords are most likely to be used by the Barbarian.
Smaller swords or maces probaly will be used by classes like the Witch Doctor or the Wizard.
We've already seen both the Wizard and the Monk being able to make good use of the staff so let's assume that one is also taken.
Heavy armor items are certainly taken by the Barbarian.
The Wizard, Witch Doctor and the Monk are probaly using the light, clothy items as armor.
The armors and weapons that aren't already "taken" by other classes are the medium, leather armor items and the sneaky weapons like daggers, (cross)bows and possibly throwing weapons. When you look at the armors you can see that the 5th class will certainly be some sort of stealthy and dark class.
A pure ranged class will leave the daggers unused, just like the ranged weapons will be unused if the 5th class turned out to be a pure melee fighter.
Because of this you can tell the class will be able to use weapons like these and will also have the right abilities that go along with them.
I'm not sure about the name, a long time ago I said it was going to be the Bandit, but because that one is already taken I'll go with the Raider
However, I'm pretty sure the class I just described will be 75 % the same as the actual coming 5th class. The other 25 % will be Blizzards original finishing touch.
Opt 1- Ranger ( Melle / Ranged fighter ) maybe able to summon things or traps
Opt 2- Rogue Same as above -- AND come on, its from Diablo 1 , not from wow... = / ( Sad face for you guys )
Opt 3- Bard Ok, so the Hellfire was not canon at all and bla bla, but , only but, the monk came from it, and there was a female bard able to dual wield, that class was secret and never even oficially announced by Sierra back them... So if blizzard uses it its ok at beeing "new".
So yes a Bard can fight Melle, dual wield, and use ranged weapons maybe even set traps... It Could also be a HINT from Blizzard at "Jace Hall Show" despite however the use of microphones and guitar hero guitars.
There is no need for stealth in diablo and the quick melée is being filled by the monk. I just don't see any room for a rogue other than possibly having bow skills. But that is not enought to make a class.
As mentioned earlier, daggers have been shown on the WD as his iconic weapon so I don't think the last class will feature daggers.
The armor is kind of a moot point. Any class will be able to wear any aromor, however, this does not mean that the last class will be featured in a more medium armor look to finish out the variety.
I am still stuck on looks between a ranger/forest look or a bandit/desert look. I think they will use a mix of bows for ranged, polearms for melée and traps to supplement magic.

my beef with the starting lineup now is that it lacks beef... theres not alot of armour going on. barbs only wear pants when they arent running around like a bunch of little girls, and arent very big advocates for shirts or helmets...
so this leads me to think that our ranged class might be bulked up a bit. not necessarily... but if we want some beefy armor designs, itll have to be.
so heres a brainstorm i had....
trag'oul (or trang oul) is a huge dragon that the world rests on. he is a huge part of diablo lore and is the deity worshipped by necromancers.
so what if we had a bowclass or spear class character that was hybrid with necromancer. im friggin SICK of ranged units always being these neutral characters.
why? why do they need to be neutral?
so im thinking a amazon sort being infused with the evil of the necromancers bone and undead spells with a dragon like design. dragon helms ect... to pay homeage to trag'oul.
oh wow, i just realized.... im totally thinking along the lines of blood raven.... thats funny.
thoughts?
holy shiiiiiit, i made this account just to tell you and everyone else how freakin awesome this idea is. it could be like a Lady Sylvanas (spelling?) type of character with, despite the unoriginality, poison arrows. but more badass some how like instead of affecting one person it could make a cloud of poison like the amazons plague javelin skill.
and there could be a skill where when you kill someone with an arrow they turn into a skeleton and fight for you or when you kill someone with it they blow up in a bloody cloud doing splash damage to everyone around them. and like he said^^ yes, kinda like blood raven or lady sylvanas, just without the raising of the dead part of blood raven. the WD is allready got the whole minion thing covered.
also, how the necromancer used alot of bone skills i.e. bone wall, bone prison/cage (forgot what its called haha :O), bone spear, teeth, bone armor and such. the "dark ranger" class could do a few of those too. like an arrow that acts like the bone spear, passing though multiple people instead of stopping at the first person it hits. bone armor could make a comeback, bone wall or something like it would be sick too.
i loved the necromancer and was sad to see him go, so maybe im just a little obsessed with that but whatever haha. i think the dark ranger persona is a sick idea. like a ranger thats not the typical robin hood good guy figure, but also not so far that hes like a skeleton archer.
... a bow or crossbow made of bone would be tiiiight.
also, the comment on a class with alot of armor like the paladin had is a good idea.
Now to all of you saying "Rogue" and meaning the invisible, stabby little bastard from WoW, shame on you. In these forums, in the D3 parts of them, Rogue means ranged (or melee depending on your tastes) and from Diablo 1.

Dude i love LEGO.
When i was little I allways love to reproduce things i liked in LEGO. Once i tryed to make tristam and all D1 character and NPC in LEGO. It turn out to be very ugly (Cain was a alien with Merlim's beard).
And my insticts says the last class will be a ranger. He/she will be proficient in bows, use trap-like abilities and nature spells (like entangle enemies). Maybe he/she can even have a summon. Just because the Wd are the "pet" class doesn't mena anyone can have at least one. Just look at D2, the necro is the summon class but amazons have a summon (and noone can really say necros and amazons overlaps eachother).
Hunter/Ranger/Beastmaster - Nothing original. Calls wild animals to help him in battles. Using ranged weapons such as: sling-shot, bow, crossbow, javelin(harpoon) etc. sneak and pathfinding. Capturing, observing skills.
Huh... sounds a little like a Rogue. Minus the slingshot. I can't see someone taking down a demon with a slingshot. Sneak won't be in Diablo, ever, and if it is that's the day I stop playing. Can you clarify what you mean by pathfinding, capturing, and observing skills and what that would mean in the Diablo universe?
IMO the main objective for Blizzard is to create a character that will excite and stimulate with it's originalty and ability to connect with players.
Even though i think most of you have the core idea right - ranged and semi CQC I highly doubt they are going to create a simple rouge/ranger or anything without the ability to use some magick in there.
My guess is a long shot but still viable imo. Blizz will have tried to go out of the box to fill the 5th spot imo.
My guess - Dhampir -

I just wanna say that i am completely baked out of my mind right now, but i thought of the best class for the fifth class. Ok so remember the assassin how she could set traps and was quick enough to have her enemies to follow her over them. Next the amazon/rouge/ranger would have top of the line range attacks so that when the enemies hit the traps they would have time to attack from the distance. Then combine the ability to set traps to slow down and or kill enemies then hit them from a distance combine the druid with them so that when the fight gets up a personal they can run back summon a bear and have the bear attract the attention of the enemies and then shoot them. I think this would be a great combo for diablo 3 because all of the other classes are all good close and far so this character would be a hit and run character similar to Lilith, the siren, in borderlands who had a powerful hit but would retreat right after because of the weaker defense that she has. This character might have its challenges to level up but it could have the potential to be more powerful and diverse than any class before. It would be more diverse because of a bunch of reasons. Lets take the amazon from Diablo 2 she had javelin and spear skills to put different effects on it, passive and magic skills that made her evasive and more deadly, and lastly crossbow and bow skills which gave her different attacks. These are all in the same category of a ranger but what if the skill tree was traps and aura so that she can set traps and like the barbarian give herself boosts, Elemental attacks that she can put on to her weapons instead of using something like in diablo 2 with the jems but she can cast it on her self or others and would also get a resistance boost so if she had frost you could have frost damage on your weapon and be resistant to frost this eliminates the bow and cross bow lame over done frost arrow, fire arrow, and poison arrow..., lastly she would have summoning powers like the druid so when the battle gets to close to her she can summon a wolf or a bear or a crow to distract her foes and unleash a deadly attack on her. That is all i have about the class portion of the character.
Next the name of the character. Well it would give it a better story to the character if they were from a forest tribe that was a very strong tribe compared to the surronding tribes. The character would be a warrior in the tribe so that it includes the deadlyness of the attacks when fighting in a group and setting the traps when left alone to fool her enemies into killing themself. Then be one with the forest for the relationship with animals so it covers the summoning part. In this i dont know what it should be named but it could be anywhere from a ninja which i dont think blizzard will use to a ranger which is very broad of a classification because a ranger is a long ranged person. These names are all that i could think of; Woodland Ranger, Wanderer, Exiled Ranger, and Arcane Archer
This character i think would be great to join the other classes because the barbarian is a tank(get strong fast and put yourself in the front of the action) Wizard the classic(get very strong magic powers and beat the shit out of everyone) Which Doctor is what it sounds like(cast a curse on you and you and you...now what do i do?) the monk is a mix of a paladin and a assassin(attack attack attack attack....woah....im tired....you still have full health....F**K it) Then my class im gonna set a trap here then here then attack them from a distance so that about have of them are dead by the time they hit the second trap then ill summon a bear and cast a fire aura on it so it has additional fire damage so they cant even get to me....sounds like fun right right it would be a great class
The way i think of it is imagine a musketeer (w/o musket) who spent some time in japan to train in ninjitsu, and then came back through mongolia and into the middle east/Ottoman empire to fight as a mercenary for cash. Can use small bucklers with bows.

 You don't know how it's could be cool !!
Personnally, aura is a feature that Blizzard must implement and I think they can improve that better than d2 and others similar games.
IF they don't put auras they need to put a form of synergy or passive skill linked to an active skill with % of...
For me it's a must for this kind of game.
id love to see a bard in D3 but it seems slightly improbable *sadfacee*
