Hey all, your help is greatly appreciated. I tried running the beta on the specs below and it was completely unplayable. I dropped the resolution down, switched to letterbox and had all settings as low as they could go and still nothing. From what I could see, the machine meets minimum, but this was unplayable and it was as if my character was stuck in slow motion. I completely locked up in the Slaughtered Lamb Inn.

It's an old machine, I know. But I was hoping it would at least be able to run minimum. Am I screwed? I just want it to run smoothly. I also do not think it's server lag as I had originally tried running beta before this weekend to no avail.

So i tried downloading the beta client, and apparently i don't meet the system requirements. Thing is, i know little about computers and cant figure out which part i need to replace in mine. Tried pulling up my system specs and comparing...but i have no idea what i'm looking at. Lend some help as to what i am forced to buy so i can run the game please!

I think the RAM is your primary concern. 2GB of DDR2 is simply very low. Especially if you're on Win Vista/7 as it may reserve up to a full Gigabyte to run smoothly. I'd advise you to check your motherboard if you have DDR3 slots and just buy 4GBs of that. If not, then add at least 2 more Gigs to your already existing ram.
This still might not fix your issue thought. From what I've read the game is very CPU intensive. Your 2 cores might just not be enough. But just to be sure buy the RAM first as it's too low with 100% certainty. If the game still has issues - you're going to have to get a new CPU as well. The i3 and i5 Intel CPUs are currently pretty cheap. Make sure to go for a Revision 3 model (designated with a 4 digit model name). Also be sure to see if your motherboard can support it.

Sadly your case is very close to that of xx2112xx. Your graphics card is low-end and your CPU is 7 years old. That 1GB memory is only enough to run Windows and some pretty graphically weak games. I'm afraid you'll have to gather up some cash for a new machine if you want to try Diablo 3. If you want this forum to help out on building you a new PC you can post a price range and I'm sure there will be people around that will help you choose a good system.
For those wondering how it runs on an old machine, here are my specs:

I ran at 1440x900, textures high, physics high, shadows medium, anti-aliasing and vsync disabled. There were little bits of slow down when things got crazy, but for the most part it was solid. If I have performance problems with the full game I think I can get around them by turning off shadows, or maybe setting shadows to low and physics to low. Both (I think) stress the cpu, which is my weak link.

Found out that the Intel 4 Series in my laptop is unsupported and probably won't allow me to run the game at all, I realize I have to purchase a new computer after all.

Played fine on med-low settings at what ever the 16:9 resolution is... Except the "Four skeleton pillars" part, and a handful of other places occasionally, where my fps would tank... Very low...
I surpass the min specs, and the only thing that falls short of the recc specs is my graphics card. Shouldn't I expect to play the game atleast on low (with low res) without being crippled by super low fps? I mean, all I'm asking for is a constant 30 fps... I play mostly on consoles lately, so I'm used to it.
I guess what I'm asking is, shouldn't min specs equate to ATLEAST 30fps on low settings?

According to the video card support thing from blizzard the Intel® HD Graphics would be supported for low graphics but I don't think this system is really geared towards any sort of gaming, from my small amount of knowledge on video cards I don't think that is a good one at all.
How much would this system cost? I think it may be in your best interest to look into other options like putting together your own system. There are many guides that would walk you through putting together your own and what parts you should buy. Really it comes down to how much the one your looking at costs but I think you may be able to get something better, if you had a price range I am sure there are many people that could help you out.
how will Diablo 3 run any ideas?

Alright this could be wrong, maybe someone can confirm for you but I will take a shot at helping you.
Looking at the minimum system requirements it looks like you should at least be able to run it on low, maybe higher even. 1.4 GHz seems kinda low, I don't know if that would cause you any problems or not. The minimum and recommended system specs say a core 2 duo for the mac, which you have. So it seems like you should be fine. I have a macbook pro with the core 2 duo but it's 2.53 GHz thats why I wondered.

You should look more into that integrated graphics card first to make certain it is supported. Intel HD Graphics 1000, 2000, 3000, 4000 are supported but I am not sure that is what the system your looking at has. At least make sure you can put a new video card on the motherboard.
EDIT: I think the processor is old which makes me think the the integrated graphics are something else. Hopefully someone with more knowledge can give you more info.

You're a couple tiers below the minimum.

I'm getting a new laptop soon (ish), and seeing as it's dirt cheap I wanna make sure I can play D3 on reasonably high settings...
