I have searched and searched and can't seem to find this basic feature that has been on every other forum I've used. When I post in a thread, I would assume I've been subscribed to that thread so when more posts happen in it I can go to one of my profile pages, find the list of my subscribed threads and which ones have new posts in them, and click the link that sends me directly to those threads.
I can't find it though. Does this forum even have this feature or a similar feature?
The closest I've been able to find to such a features is the View New Content link, but it's quite inferior to what we used to have on vBulletin. Also, bring back the Who's Online link.

Oh damn. I forgot about those. Bring those back please!
So we don't have those features? Damn... because honestly, half the time I forget where I've posted in order to reply to someone who has commented on me and such. And if I'm away for a few days, all these threads would get pushed to the second page or more and it makes it even less likely for me to find it. It's just a big hassle really.
PlugY for Diablo II allows you to reset skills and stats, transfer items between characters in singleplayer, obtain all ladder runewords and do all Uberquests while offline. It is the only way to do all of the above. Please use it.

I agree though, it's a hassle to get to, and it's not entirely clear how to get there.
Ok so I went to it, and found that it had no subscribed threads in it. But then I checked and found some threads that I posted in and have been posted in by others since I was gone. How does this work if it's not going to inform me of others posting in threads I have posted in as well?
The way it should work in my opinion: When you make a thread or a post in someone else's thread, it automatically subscribes you to that thread and so if someone else posts in it, that thread will be highlighted in the display list of the "watched topics" link and won't disappear until you check the thread or a reasonable time has already been passed - like a week. If you do check the thread by either clicking on it from "watched topics" or going to it manually in the forum, it will un-highlight in your watched topics list and stay there for another reasonable time frame of maybe an hour or so before going into a "old subscribed threads" list which is behind the scenes and should only be viewed if you choose to do so through a link. In other words, they're scrapped threads that you aren't interested in any more.
And of course you should have the option of subscribing and unsubscribing from any threads you wish without having to make a post.
Finally, if it can be accessed more easily, I'm sure more people would use it. Such as it's own link when you click on "my profile" for example.

Subscribed topics are topics you subscribe to, not topics you've posted in or have been posted in since you last logged in. As said previously, you can us the "View New Content" button for that stuff.
Auto subscribing people to threads they've posted in wouldn't really be useful. People that have thousands of posts would have a stupidly long subscribe count. Seth has 10k+ posts spanning over a few years. He'd be better off just looking at his Post History instead of his subscribed threads page. After all, your post history is there for a reason, :P.

In their subscribed threads list, yes, but most threads become dormant and won't be posted in so they never reappear in the "subscribed threads with posts made recently in it" section. The view new content button won't be helpful for anyone that has been away for a day or more because - well - it's difficult to keep track or where exactly you've posted so manually sifting through that list of active threads is a real pain.
It has worked wonders in other forums, and is definitely a must for the most active forums which could have topics being pushed to the second page in a matter of hours. At this very moment it isn't essential for diablofans to have this feature, but when D3 comes out you can expect a boom in activity.
If you want, I could pm you a pictured display of how it could work with examples from other forums (and no I'm not promoting, just suggesting an idea for this forum).

So what you're saying is that you should be able to post once a week and then come back to see what happened to your reply?

No, not at all. For example, you replied about 40 minutes ago in here and it has already been pushed to the 8th slot in the "view new content" link. And it seems to only be showing me the first page - or 16 hits - so I'm unsure if that has always been like that or it's some problem on my part, but you can imagine how useful this feature is for someone that goes to sleep at night and wakes up the next day to check up on the replies made to him/her.
Sure thing. I'll be honest though, I haven't asked the forum administrators yet if this is ok so I'll maybe have it posted tomorrow, giving myself a chance to sleep and them to reply.
I, uhm... Am the Forum Administrator and i'm telling you it's OK, :o.
Anywho, I do agree, some way to track threads you've responded in would be kinda cool. Though I do believe it should be completely separate from your subscribed threads.

Haha yeah I know, I meant on the forum I'm going to use as an example

I don't see why anyone would want to subscribe manually to some threads, and not all threads that they comment in. They of course would have the option of unsubscribing from any thread such as spam threads that constantly get new replies. But then again, having separate links for subscribed threads and threads that you've commented in is good too.
So what you're saying is that you should be able to post once a week and then come back to see what happened to your reply?
Now that I think about it, I reckon it would be better that this person replies a week later than to come back a week later, have no clue where he asked his question or whatever, and then never reply in that thread again - leaving the responders hanging.

Basically, if new threads are being made regularly (as can be expected to happen in the D3 section when D3 is released, or even during Blizzcon for that matter) it gets increasingly hard to keep track of your conversation and finding them again. Unless you're one of the few who spend hours here and sift through pretty much all topics, an auto-subscribe feature is really helpful.
vBulletin had the exact same system we have now, except it automatically subscribed you. IPB seems to have trouble handling too many subscriptions though, I had to ask Alexia to purge my list after we changed software in order for it to work for me.

EDIT: Oh. That's what you meant. Bleh, that's not funny

Well, how about making it so that subscribed threads older than say... a month? are deleted from the list.
Ok so they were ok with it. Apparently since they're not the creators of the idea, they can't refuse it
This is the homepage and if you click "My PF" which stands for my profile in the top left of the screen - pretty much equivalent to dfans' "watched topics" link, it will take you to your subscribed threads (or watched topics, however you prefer it).
This is the watched topics page. Those links highlighted are threads that have new comments made in them that you also have commented in and not checked yet. The one that is not highlighted is a thread that you have checked within the passed hour or so and no new comments have been made since (if they are made, it just highlights again and stays there indefinitely till you check it).
This forum keeps all subscribed threads in its memory though, and you can see them all by clicking on the "view all subscribed threads" in the bottom right of the page on the subscribed threads screen. If this forum can't handle too many subscribed threads though, they can always be deleted if left in that list for longer than some time period. Because really, I never look at those old subscribed threads again, they're only useful for if anyone makes a comment in one of them much much later - but it's really not that important to have.
Back in the "My PF" page, clicking on one of the highlighted links takes you straight to the thread
Then you can easily go back to check on the other threads you have new comments in by clicking "My PF" again. The thread we checked is not highlighted any more.
Anyway, this is basically it. Just a few points I want to touch up on as to what would be the most important changes. Access to the subscribed threads needs to be made very simple, such as its own link when you click on your name in the top-right of the screen. All threads that you post in are automatically subscribed to (or called something else if you want to keep subscriptions and these separate, but I really don't see the point). The option to unsubscribe easily from any thread - such as if you happen to post once in a few spam threads but don't want to keep seeing them pop up in your list because of the constant activity in those.

And I know you just don't link where the link is at, because the feature is still there. Just click "Member Name" in the who's online box.
