Very nice post. As much as I liked to play WoW I don't want the WoW physique to come into Diablo too much, we're already kind of seeing it with Xmog and reforging. This isn't a bad thing necessarily, I just want the two games to be separate and Diablo devs to come out with something unique to Diablo rather than getting all their concepts from WoW. I realize that doesn't give a whole lot of room since WoW has been successful for a very long time and taking the things that are really good about WoW and putting them into Diablo isn't a terrible route to go, but I know blizz can come up with things unique to Diablo rather than redesigning concepts from WoW like the challenge modes. That's probably my only complaint about your ideas is the challenge modes. It's not even really a complaint, because it is a good idea. I just don't want people saying "challenge modes like in WoW"
Just some thoughts, I know at blizzcon they said that they don't want to take too much from WoW which gives me hope that they will try to stay away from those concepts.
As a disclaimer, if they do end up taking most of their concepts from WoW i'm not going to boycott the game or call it bad, it's just a matter of preference.
I do like these ideas don't get me wrong, but a lot of them seem very superficial and don't address any short comings the game has and will potentially continue to have in RoS. I really hope they try to bring back PVP in a better form, even if it just means letting people duel in public games.
I'd love for them to bring back a real chat lobby like diablo had, where you can see people's characters and heck even have private chat rooms for clan members in the lobby. While this isn't necessary as needed anymore due to the much better chat features the game has, this interface will make up for the lack of an auction house this time around.
I'd love to see the player cap per game limited to a higher amount, perhaps 7-8, and make strides in balancing public games off some sort of internal gear score ratio. While gear doesn't necessary argue that you're any good especially right now since people can just buy gear, it at least ensures that there is a base line. The biggest problem with public games right now is that people often just leech or don't really do a damn thing at all. This was pretty much the same case in diablo, although people often just went off and farmed their own areas..which is fine.
I think the dev's could get fairly creative with PVP especially if they stuck with the area format. Perhaps betting, waging items, and so forth. Ideally while the diablo 2 format of pvp er..well there wasn't one..it worked. Just let people flag and duel eachother if not to make enhancements to the methods that have been provided. Have team endless horde trials, team pvp, it doesn't need to be esports worthy, because it shoudln't be..but this game should offer another outlet besides farming items and paragon levels.
I really really love doing the races in path of Exile. If they add something like that to Diablo 3 I would buy the expansion in a heart beat. It would go a long way to making the game better and more fun. Races also add tons of replay-ability because you keep doing them for points to get rewards.
Any kind of timed trial will heavily favor classes with many movement speed options, so that's not a great idea.
That shouldnt be a problem to fix. The races in PoE have certain rules like no projectiles. The Devs just have to code each event to say not allow movement speed abilities.
So a "How good is my gear"-mode. There's already something for this. It's called the character panel.
"Timed Dungeon"
Same thing. The only limiting factor is going to be gear and luck.
"Goblin Hunt"
Strike three. Gear and luck the only limiting factors.
None of these are fun or original. Done in games where skill (mostly aim i.e. Killing Floor) plays a role they can be entertaining, but skill does not come into play in Diablo 3. XP/h for well geared barbs farming mp10 doesn't vary wildly, it all relies 100% on gear. I don't doubt I will get flamed because there are people who think Diablo 3s skill ceiling isn't pathetically low, but I'm not worried. Blizzard may have made numerous mistakes during development of Diablo 3, but none of them as monumentally retarded as adding any of the above mentioned features would be.
Thats not how races work. They are done with fresh level 1 characters not your real ones. You make a new character each time a new race starts and you only use the gear you find during the race. Once it ends the character is locked out and can never be played again. When a new event comes along you make a new level 1 and start over. Thats why they are so much fun and never get old.
I think these ideas are simply wonderful. I've been a fan of the Diablo series since I was 10 an I really want it to continue to succeed. Diablo has struggled with end game incentive in the past and I think a reward system like this would really help to keep it alive. I'm a lover of World of Warcraft as well and I can't tell you how much time I've spent just getting small cosmetic items, tabards/achievements etc, etc. I'm not saying that Diablo should be "more like world of warcraft" as many people have complained, but I think the reward systems and options for end game stuff will really help D3.

Endless waves, however, is a very cool idea.
