Seen a lot about hacking lately, figured I would look into setting this up. Anyone using it at the moment? It kind of seems like it's a pain in the ass. Is it a pain in the ass?

Just requires you to put in another number when logging in, and not every time if you don't change machines or locations (i.e. IP addresses) between logins. If you log in from different locations with different IPs, then it'll ask you for the extra number.
It's a good way to protect you if anyone using your machine makes a mistake and gets it compromised, or, if anyone who knows your login credentials gives them out some other way, knowingly or unknowingly.
I work in IT security, and could keep my machine clean w/o the authenticator, but I got one anyway when my teenagers started using my computer. I can't look over their shoulders 24/7.
