Diablo - grandfather of the ARPG
Warcraft - extremely popular
WoW - biggest MMO in history, and still going stronger than any other MMO
SC - biggest esport, national sport of Korea
uhhh, yea. Blizzard is still on top. And they will be, for a long damn time.
Warcraft - kinda a grandfather of WoW, in terms of lore. But man, first RTS Dune 2000. That was a great game. I think I didn't like any other RTS (even SC) like that one ever again. You didn't have to worry only about your enemies but also about worms eating your troops or harvesters. I've just loved it.
I played dune 2000. But before that I think I played a game called 7th legion http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g3Dp4fe62_c . Of the two dune was the better game, but the first one is always special.
Blizzard still seems to release decent titles (even though they do not release many at all now days). Do I believe that Blizzard has the same quality as 6-7 years ago? Hell no. They have lost alot of the life spark/soul/magic - maybe they will get it back - maybe they will not.
I'm with you hear. I would call it innovation. They now only copy others' ideas. They do it well, though. They biggest pros are their artists and designers and balancing team. Cause of it their products are mostly polished. But they don't innovate for a long time. Diablo 1 was an innovation but all after that was not. On top of it it feels that polishing takes so big priority that it covers any spark of possible innovation. Many ideas like runes as items and more recently now (if it was not a troll) making inferno another difficulty (instead of keeping it flat) were cut. Even if we they say they did it as it would not work it was still part of their polishing/balancing act by cutting innovation. D2 had some things which didn't work out perfectly but still they were exciting and ppl liked them. The best example I can give from real life. You have to girls, one is cute an normal, not ups or downs, beautiful and so on. Second has read hair and fights with you every now and then and you know that it may get annoying at some point when passion is not there anymore. Now what do you choose. Blizzard seems to choose mostly the former. If I were them I may choose the later and work on it so it does not get more annoying and in time maybe become slightly closer to the former. This would give me both of two words without cutting of initial excitement. Blizzard choose safe approach even if I believe they have enough of workforce to choose the later.
But not to worry. We don't need to play D3 all the time. We can switch to other games from time to time. Maybe this is what they want.
On a hope side, Titan may bring more innovations. Though Titan won't be diablo.

I have never seen this one. Was it RTS with resources gathering, etc. I heard Dune2k was the first RTS. Guess I heard wrong.
Its really scary how many people are still drinking the Blizzard koolaid, no wonder why they think they can do what they want since people will buy their stuff like trained zombies, which is not a good sign.
I bet some of the heavy Blizzard supporters didn't even know the company before WoW and this site proofes it. Just look at the all the threads about DPS and what not this is not an MMOG, its a hack n slay solo game!
Tough to believe I really have to point out, why dumbing down a successor - note successor not new game - is a bad idea. If you make a Diablo successor former players will have expectations and if the company doesn't meet them they will get criticized for it, rigthfully so. Personally I wouldn't have a problem if they made a new game and called it "Sanctuary or Canes Quest" but making a successor for a complete different audience in my mind is a bad thing you can disagree as much as you want its my opinion and I'm entitled to it.
Blizzard 2 is only in for the money if they would still be gamers, their games would have the former Blizzard quality and features one would desire.
Hey so, I don't know if you know this but; this is a Blizzard game fan site.

No, it's diablo fan site. And he is right in two places:
1 making a successor for a complete different audience in my mind is a bad thing
2 Blizzard 2 is only in for the money
And nothing will change till we can somehow make 1 earn the most of 2. Harsh reality.
Yeah, i trust blizzard, but WTF with the wii?
Maybe its not blizzard we should be worried about, and look at Activision? Ill bet the Diablo 3 guys were EXTATIC when they heard they were making a game for pc, to share with a low-spec motion controlled console with no storage for content/patches etc and they will be playing alongside PC players? Do we miss out on patches now? Or do you get a new CD in the mail every patch? Id laugh if they get 8 bit spell effects?
Wait - instead of wearing out our mouses we can cleave away our elbows? Thousand blows, i have to do each one? Take that Wii-fit!
Edit: The wii thing was funnier than the librarian class last year (or was that the year before)
For those who say that 'the people complaining are a very small minority'.
I want to say that you are wrong, explaining myself.
I have two hardcore D2 friends, also know them from real life. We keep returning to D2 and start all over all these years. These two, they are very frustrated about D3. One of their complaints is that the graphics were ok back at summer 2008 when the first video with the Barbarian and the WD published. But now the models are the same, only the resolution has changed. So it fells like blizzard will ship a game with outdated graphs.
Anyway, my point is that these two people are complaining a lot and they are not in the forums. They even don't know this page. Yes, they see walkthroughs on youtube, checking char skills and game changes, but not being in forums.
There are way too many people complaining about the game that we don't know and we don't face their opinions.
So they still play an old game with 10yo graphics? and they dont like the new stylised graphics?
We are getting to a point now where it is not about how realistic the graphics are, its about their mood.
The picture camera did not make painting portraits obsolete, neither does BF3 graphics make diablo3 graphics obsolete.
They created a mood, and i think its great. I for one dont want what happened to squaresoft happen to diablo (not hating on squaresoft, they have their style and its cool, just doesnt fit diablo - thats my point)
I've played Diablo 3 as well as Mists of Pandaria and I can say with confidence that Blizzard is still my favorite game company. I've purchased every game Blizzard has produced over the years and have never been unsatisfied. I think many of the issues people have with Blizzard seem to focus around the fact that times (and gaming) changes.
The average gamer now days isn't the same. Casual gaming has made almost anyone a gamer (hell, my grandma is a casual gamer). This change in the overall market for games has affected many games and Blizzard has adapted very nicely. Both D3 and MoP feel very 'fun'. Sure, D3 is a change to what you're used to if you've only been playing D2, but gaming has changed overall...D3 fits the current market very well.
Blizzard is going downhill get over it, SC 2 is a failure, wow keeps giving birth to expansions beating a dead horse no comment there, their last hope is Diablo franchise and i doubt they have a clue what they are doing with it anymore.
How was SC2 a failure? It seems to be doing rather well from what I can see. I also own it, played through the campaign a few times now and am looking forward to heart of the swarm.
With each WoW expansion, Blizzard adapts WoW to streamline and re-envision the MMO. From my experience with MoP, they've done quite well at keeping the game fun.
Diablo 3 is very fun already, and we've only got to play part of act 1. I'm quite confident I'll be playing it for many years to come.

it's not about trusting blizzard, but how much distrust we have for other major gaming companies. it's not hard to beat them out.

Doesn't mean they can't make an enjoyable game, though.
