the game will be the same with the cost of respecing or without it. your still going to go back to town to respec for a fight you know is coming up whether it cost something or not. and oh look were back to the same point where awww were all the same but we had to pay a fine to be the same. seriously it's annoying to hear people complain about this and want the fine to respec when in the end if its the best option then we are all going to choose it. But wait arn't the ITEMS in the game going to deversify us and head us in different directions for different builds set accordinly to what you have?
i agree with snaks42
who ever is complaining about this takes there shit way to hardcore stop flamin and start playing maybe you'll like it
Thank you sir. Wish I had just typed that at the beginning. That's exactly what I mean =D
If Blizzard believes people will play this game over and over just for the gear they are mistaking. People did magic-find in Diablo 3 because of the huge number of unique characters you could build, so any new item would fit to your character. Also, gear is not like gear in WoW. You have very limited bragging to do in diablo. No mailbox to afk with that new mount, you are stuck with your friends, and random people you meet on bnet.
did you mean Diablo 2? and no there was not a "huge number of unique characters". there was MAYBE 30 viable builds between all 7 characters. in D3 there will be 100x more for ONE character then all of the characters in D2 combined. people magic find to get stronger and for bragging rights. gear is the same in D3 as it was in D2. and people will continue to play it for the same reasons.
if you think the need to make duplicate characters added ANYTHING to D2 you are blind. it took MAYBE 4 hours to get a char from 1 to 80 with all the runs/rushing going on. so 4 extra hours per char you made didnt add shit to the game and people need to realize that
This. I realize that D2 was awesome, believe me I spent more than enough time on the game instead of school =) But even though it ranks in my top 5 games ever, it still had some flaws. HAVING to re level a character was one of them. In D3 you still have the choice if you want to, but forcing people to for making mistakes just because they wanted to play around with the skills given to them is a bad mechanic. Even in D2, just like beta said, it took just a couple hours, wasn't really that much fun. Nothing is stopping you from leveling a toon again in D3, but don't force the rest of us to do it.

If the cost is high enough you wont go back and respec unless you have no other options. Just like you did not reroll your character every time you wanted to kill a new boss in Diablo 2...
Now obviously the cost doesn't have to be that high to not make it worth it to respec. It doesn't have to be anywhere close even.
There needs to be something more to individualize my character from anyone elses, and some incentive for me to make more than one character of each class
while its true you can just swap out spells etc, you are going to eventually be able to sell max rank characters on the RMAH. So while that might not be an incentive you are looking for...
At the core of diablo is the gear, if you think otherwise you are lying to yourselves (can't fool me). Many if not most of us here have at least a faint memory of finding some awesome gear, and having the moment send tingling sensations through your whole nervous system. Don't get me wrong the other elements of the game are important too but the diablo world has alas been about mad lootz. Someone can duplicate every other aspect of you character effortlessly but to match your gear is where the real 'cock measuring' happens.
I've been following Diablo III beta since it's announcement, grasping at every change and piece of information they would throw my way, and I just got my beta invite a few days ago. I've been playing the heck out of the beta and have beat it with several classes and I'm left with a feeling that none of my characters are unique. It may be just because this is early game and the addition of runestones may completely change my mind on this matter, but it feels like all of the characters I make have no differentiation from anyone elses characters. They FEEL the same.
I've never been a fan of getting rid of manual stat points and after having played the beta, I must say that it furthers my beliefs that this was a mistake. I understand that they want the game to be accessable to people who are new to the Diablo universe, or to Action RPG's in general, but at what point does it become too simple?
I also feel that there won't be much of a meta-game at the end of Diablo III. In Diablo II, you would make use of the meta-game because there were so many potential builds that you could keep making new characters and every single character could be unique, even if it was from the same class. As of now, once you make one of each class, you have to reason to make any additional characters because they can be so easily changed to a completely different type of build with no consiquence.
I'm not saying that bringing back manual stat points is the answer, but something is missing. There needs to be something more to individualize my character from anyone elses, and some incentive for me to make more than one character of each class. After all, there is no raiding and virtually no end-game content (inferno aside) for them to fall back on. Leveling, PVP, and MF'ing is what Diablo is about, and that's fine, but to me it feels like by allowing characters to change so easily, and having very little uniqueness, leveling is eliminated once you've been playing the game for say a year, and that drops one of your end-game options off the table.
Plp crack me up for one they have diversity in stats in d3 instead of puttings stats in Ur self u get it threw items for 2 there was never stat diverity in d2 enough stg for items dex for sheild block rest it vit thats not divetsty thread closed. Just like the rest
