Mischievous little demons that run up and steal random items out of your inventory and run off...you have to kill them to get it back. Could be an interesting gameplay dynamic in certain areas, as long as they don't overdue it. For example, if you know you're going into the thieves den, you have to take off your charms.
EDIT: in case you were confused, I am talking about items in your backpack only, NOT stuff that is equipped.
Yes, you would lose some items sometimes -- you don't design a monster who steals items without the intent of having some items get stolen.
Yes it would be annoying if this existed anywhere, but could be good in 1 or two places -- sort of like that place in Harrogath where the the corpses reanimate themselves infinitely...but you learn to cope with it, and it adds something new thats interesting.

Losing my item forever doesn't interest me. I'd say it doesn't interest 90% of people, which is why we have a repair ability through blacksmiths.

I'm talking about items in your backpack -- the random junk that you just picked up as you were questing like scrolls and potions, nothing that you are wearing.

As long as they don't take my charms, gems, etc etc. Stuff I actually use or has a lot of value.

My idea was that you would be warned by an NPC before entering the area, suggesting you to take off your charms etc (thus provoding a slight cripple), but you could choose to keep wearing them if you wanted to take the risk. It wouldn't really be much risk in most cases, considering that a) baddies don't usually get away clearing the map is not hard c) you would know when they stole from you, due to their animation/sound effects. The only actual risk would be if you were doing the area in multiplayer with someone whom you did not trust.
That would be so bad. You'd find a good unique then it would swiftly ninja your item. You'd be chasing it down then you would disconnect and lose the item forever. I would laugh if it didn't happen to me.
thats just dirty if a failed one sneaks up and theives shit from you. if tht was in the game do you reckon when u have killed the failed one tht stole from u u would get your stuff back. and also if they have stollen from other characters online would u be able to claime their unique items?
Ok it's clear people do not like the concept of other players scooping the loot that was stolen from you by a demon, but if that is such a concern, its easy enough to program it so that when the other player kills the monster the item counts as YOUR drop, so they can't take it.
i like the sounds of tht so basicaly what your saying is that if you make the kill you are the only one tht sees the loot and can take it. on tht note they should have some sort of time elapse scheme were lets just say ive killed sumthing then 5 min later if i havernt taken the item then the other players should be able to take it. it might not work but its a good sudgestion i think
Heres why it would be bad, i can already see it. Everyone here would post a thread saying " The Thievolus Demon stole my new armor i just picked off of Lucion and I lost my connection!!!"
I could see so many things happening to where you drop after it steals it or something like that were you dont have the opportunity to gain it back, or someone is not in your party and he kills the monster and takes it or you get killed and cant get your body back to even try to kill it, OR there would be a gay glitch were he doesn't drop your item back. There could be so many problems with that i would rather leave it be.
And Mahamoti, that is a great idea in your sig, that would make things very interesting

What happens in cases of a crash etc etc though? My anni charm is just gone now?
I mean sure a npc would warn me but meh, it just sounds too iffy. A player lures all the thieving monsters to a waypoint, I go through they steal all my stuff, he crashes the game or he kicks me from the game then kills them? What happens?
I just don't think it's a necessary risk. Why not just make some monsters that were charm immune, none of your charm bonuses work on them?

So why would you wear your annihilus charm in there against the townsperson's advice unless you were willing to take the small risk of losing it due to an internet failure? I don't see why this is such a big deal. Also, you could have picked something more difficult to replace than anni Those things drop like flies!
well on tht point you will get pissed off with the game and the person witch would work good for Blizzard becuase then you would be determine to ethier 1 put a personal vendeta on the player or 2keep playing till you get your stuff back so in a way it would be sucking you into the game even more witch i reckon is what they would want. i know it would give you the absolote shits and wouldnt be fare but is the game meant to be fare or is it meant to be an arsehole so you get determine to beat it?
its just a bad idea lol, there shouldnt be a situation where you could lose an ANNI in the first place

wouldnt mind it in that instance.

That wouldn't be so bad, depending on how much gold and how many consumables it stole.
