I'd like to see teleport getting some nerf.. some cooldown or something.. to make it an escape ability not moving around ability. They had to put enigma into game to give everyone teleport so everyone could skip all the nasty monsters and bosses on the way to boss
Actually it was more for the PvP aspect. The sorceress and amazon was dominating everyone and none of the other classes like paladin or barbarian had a chance. The Enigma was to allow a more fair fight. (Though when they coupled the Enigma with synergies, they essentially brought upon the new problem of the Hammerdin.)

I know teleportation isnt real. Lets clear that up first off
But if you go by what it is described like at wikipedia the telepportation has to be instat of near instant. So a long cooldown period would go against what teleportation is described as today.
I really hope the mage class (i really really hope there will be one) will be able to teleport in D3 and that there is no cooldown. Teleport is what made a sorc special. Like the barb had shouts, the paladin had auras, the necro several had minions and so on.
It would be more useful to run then. Then noone would use it. No point in a skill noone will use.
Why would no one use it if it had a 8 second cooldown? It's supposed to be a escape skill not a "pass all mobs by and teleport around aimlessly" skill.

Do you know what a cooldown is? Even with a cooldown teleport could still be instant. You're thinking about a cast time, and nobody in this thread has yet to mention adding a cast time onto teleport.
Personally, I hope there isn't teleport in D3, or if there is have it be a teleport with a cooldown. I just don't like the idea of a class that can skip content like in D2. But w/e, I don't really care. If I played a mage type class that would could teleport, I wouldn't use it to skip content and I wouldn't group with those that do. So, really, either way I really don't care.
Although, I don't think there is going to be a teleport as used in D2. In response to questions about other classes being able to cross gaps like the Barbarian did in the trailer, Blizz said they weren't sure and that it was more just to show off the Barbarian's class skill. Although they could have easily been holding back information until more classes are revealed.
Additionally, if you watched the gameplay trailer, the Barbarian and the Witch Doctor don't seem to run very fast at all. The animation looks as if they are running, but speed wise they might as well be walking in comparison to D2. It would be a little odd that one class has such a dramatic advantage over others as far as mobility is concerned, not to mention a clear imbalance in regards to pvp.

There's your reasoning for Teleport. It will be in D3 and won't have a cooldown.
Why don't necro and druids come with teleport either then? And don't say because they have summons. Sorc's have ice armors and slow down spells and druids/necro don't have to use summons.
Not to mention some sorc's load up on vit and increased hp item stats. So they have a huge health pool AND they zing around teleporting for no reason.
Do you know what a cooldown is? Even with a cooldown teleport could still be instant. You're thinking about a cast time, and nobody in this thread has yet to mention adding a cast time onto teleport.
A cooldown would make it so you cant recast a specific spell instantly, n'est pas?

Then there should be a cooldown for all means of transportation (Leap, and what other stuff they come up with (Charge, BoS (nerfed) etc)
If a class cant be superior to other classes in some way what makes them unique to other classes then?
I prefer the sorc, but I dont skip gameplay content. For mfing purposes its superior

Im sorry, but I dont understand. What does the berbs/WDs runtime has to do with the ability to teleport? If teleport works as in D2 then you could tele to the edge of screen. Will it take 8 secs or more to run the same distance? I dont think so

Last time I checked leap doesn't go through walls, and takes longer to use than teleport. For whatever reason. Charge doesn't work through walls either.
Classes are unique from them being different classes in itself.
Why don't necro and druids come with teleport either then? And don't say because they have summons. Sorc's have ice armors and slow down spells and druids/necro don't have to use summons.

Well, the first thing that comes to mind is that the sorc gets 0,5 health less each lvl than the nec/druid so a telport skill for defensive purposes makes perfect sense. Remember that the energy stat wasnt meant to be untouched. The game mechanics/items made it obsolete.
If a nec/druid had teleport they would teleport (duh!) and have a summon infront of them. How superior would that be?
I know, a sorc can get a merc, but lets face it. D2 got ruined after 1.09 patch. Mercs got too powerful and suddenly sorcs had no fear even though they previously had to struggle with fire/lightning and cold immunes.
If you ask me Enigma is the reason for all this commotion and not the sorcs ability to tele. All classes have their pros and cons thats what keeping Diablo series alive to this day

The whole problem is sorc's = lots faster MF = a lot more rich.
Then Enigma came and everyone had easy MF ALONG with stupid PVP. PVP revolves around teleport now pretty much.

No but you can still use Leap to jumps moats and the liking to skip gameplay content.
In open space areas Charge is just as fast as tele, no?
But thank you for checking up on those things

Yes, yes it does. A cooldown means that there is a waiting period before you can cast the spell again. It has nothing to do with whether a spell instantly casts or not. So that still stands, teleport can still be a teleport per wikipedia definition and have a cooldown.

There's nothing wrong with superiority but having a flagrantly huge difference in power or ability is.

Ok, ya, so it only takes a 2-3 seconds to run to the edge of the screen. But that's still way slower than D2 with frw. Maybe it's nothing and maybe they will continue to have fhw in D3 and this point is moot. But with the current information shown I don't see how giving a mage type class an instant teleport with no cooldown or repercussions not messing with gameplay and/or pvp balance.
The whole problem is sorc's = lots faster MF = a lot more rich.
Well, thats where we disagree. I dont see it as a problem. I say it as a benefit. I like being good. And if it wasnt for fast mfing I would be able to buy shako/tals armor and what not as cheap as i can today. I would prolly never get those items, he he.
But youre right. One of the easier chars to stack mf is a sorc and its a fast boss killer.
The lvl 85 areas made it so that sorcs wasnt the only ones who could farm areas for high lvl items

Well.. Honestly, any smart necro build will have at least a nice clay golem because of the slow enemy property. And any smart druid build is going to have a bear for a meat shield.
Of course they're both going to have a merc, so would a sorc. The 1 summon is more than the sorc has though.
Your next argument was ice armors. Lets be frank here, they're really almost useless. The only one actually worth getting is the first one because the next 2 are wasted skill points. The first ice armor freezes an enemy that hits you for a very short amount of time. And that property is so weak that it doesn't even affect monsters in hell difficulty. What it does do is give you some more armor, which makes you harder to hit. You're still rather low in armor when compared to a barb or paladin. So would be a necro or a druid too. BUT the necro shield absorbs physical damage (while it isnt much) and can be instantly recasted; the druid shield absorbs elemental damage and can be instantly recasted.
Sorcs do have slowing skills, but so does the necro and the druid. Decrepify slows, so does arctic blast (lol) and hurricane and ravens blind. We won't even talk about what all a necro can do besides slowing his target,
Lastly, yes, sorcs do load up on Vit items but its because you have to to be viable. I'll even admit myself, I'll take a BK ring anyday over an SoJ on a sorc.
I just think its fair that a sorc should have teleport. And lets face it, eventually in D3 there will be some sort of armor that gives teleport.

Never did much PvPing but was sorcs superior in PvP pre 1.10+ due to the fact they where the only chars with teleport?
And sorcs have Mana shield, 4k Mana with 2k HP anyone? And Meditation on a prayer merc...one of the toughest, if not absolute toughest classes around...so yeah, they really need teleport...
Tele is OP and either needs a respectable cooldown or to be removed, it simply unbalances the game.
Thats 1.10+ patches fault. Not the sorcs. Its the items that has become too good imo
