A server I play on Neverwinter Nights has something called a bank, and inside there's chests.
Chests bind to your Account so the items are accessible to any hero you create.
The chests have a limit of 100 or so items I believe but only to prevent lag.
That game is much larger though.
I'm sure "Oh, that's not realistic" will be mentioned, but how about some NPC delivering to a hero that doesn't technically exist or carrying 400 pounds of shit back to town, let alone, where is this shit fitting?
It's a phenomenal method and works wonders. I loved having everything organized, mapping out chests with gear for a future hero build and alternate items needed to swap for situational challenges/quests.
Never had to worry.
