Who else enjoyed these series? For those few of you who don't know what game it is, it's an action game where you fight demons in third person, but combat is focused on style. The more varied and skillfully you beat your enemies (meaning the more combos of attacks you can chain together without taking damage, in essence), the better your ranking, and thus your reward. It's a true hack and slash, let me tell you. http://www.diablofans.com/forums/newthread.php?do=postthread&f=34
And if you want to see how it's supposed to be played, watch this video. This one is against regular enemies one at a time instead of bosses. In the game always fight more than one monster, this video is just for showing what's possible. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-1RHxRkuFVc
And yes I know, the music sucks. Just turn it off if you like.
I myself am a big fan of Devil May Cry. I borrowed the first one from a friend when it was first released, and I sucked. It took me forever to beat the first boss. I completed it on normal eventually, but that was it.
Then came DMC2, and it was the game's turn to suck. Completed it on Hard, but couldn't be arsed to go through on Must Die.
Then came DMC3, and I finished it all. I was damn proud of myself for beating every diffculty level, and so was really excited for the fourth game.
Last now is the fourth, only been out for PC close to a month. But it's damn good. I've only completed Normal and Easy so far, tried Hard but died on the first mission. As I've played it, I've started to like it more and more.
I want to know what you all think of the games, and especially their difficulty. Are they as hard as people claim them to be, and which one did you find the hardest? I think either the first one or the fourth is the hardest, but that just may be me.

As my sig suggest it I'm a big fan of the series.
The first one I played was 3 which in my opinion the best one yet. The story was pretty cool, the characters to die for and the gameplay both addictive and challenging. Arkham and Vergil are among my favorite villains ever, one being just too twisted and the other being just as cold as badass. Also Dante is just impossible, " I told you before I don't like anybody with a bigger mouth than mine".
Oh it took me for ever but I swear that I SSed every single mission in the game with both Dante and Vergil even on DMD, without doubt the best times I had with this game.
As for the other DMC games, 1 was pretty cool but it feelt so old playing it after 3.
2 on the other hand was... err yeah it's the second DMC game...
Finally 4 is somewhat a disapointment storywise and a bit gameplaywise. The villains were bland, we still don't know exactly who exactly Nero is and why he got the Devil Bringer and Dante was just a copy and paste of DMC 1 + DMC 3 with less moves. I was expecting a lot more but Capcom clearly underexploited the potential of this game, they were just preparing the ground for DMC 5 while testing the next gen consoles. Regardless I'm not done having fun with this game
Hopefully Vergil will come back from the dead in 5 to fix things up and make the most epic game ever (after Diablo 3 of course)
Sadly for me, the first taste of the series I had was with the second game. I thought it was just okay, though it did give me something to do when I was bored. I may get laughed at for it, but I actually liked Lucia's fighting style; I like those blade things.
The third game was great. My fingers were absolutely raw from playing it as much as I could while I still had it (yay for renting from Blockbuster), but I loved it.
Either way, it's a good series overall. Hell, I enjoy listening to the soundtrack while playing other games.

Now that's impressive. And I felt good about my SS rank on the second Vergil Battle on Very Hard. Damn that was a fun boss

I see what you're saying. There are too many characters in this game. The first one basically had Dante, Trish, and four villains; Mundus Nelo Angelo, Phantom and Gryphon, and the last three didn't really need all that much development.
Same in the third. Dante, Vergil, Arkham, Lady. Four people.
But now there's Dante, Nero, Kyrie, Credo, Agnus, Gloria, Trish, Lady, Sanctus. And two of those are main charcters!
Vergil Vs Vergil XD[/quote]
Beowulf I don't know about, but definately Vergil. I liked all of his battles, and the music for the 1st and 2nd one are fantastic. Third one not so much, but you can't have it all can you?

I've never played it, but I love the music for it. I've also seen the first few anime episodes of it.
I'm not the only one I see. Lately I've been listening to DMC music (Mainly from the 4th game) while playing Diablo. It's a nice change of pace.

I haven't heard any music from the fourth one yet, aside of anything on the YouTube boss battles. I kind of don't want to spoil myself too much, even though it'll be quite a long time before I'm able to play the game myself.
My favorites are probably the three songs that Shawn McPherson did for the third game. Pretty catchy, and they're fun to listen to while beating just about anything up.
I also have some battle music from Devil May Cry 2, but let's not talk about that.

Well the best ones in my mind are "The Time has Come" (based on Shall Never Surrender, but without the useless chanting in the middle), Baroque and Beats and Swipe of Sword. All battle music

Indeed, though I did like the Boss music in that game very much as well. Especially Vergil 1 and 2.

Well in it's defense, the regular battle theme of DMC2 was pretty good.

Im not really a big Fan of DMC. But I'm really enjoying DMC4. I bought it for the Xbox 360 and the graphics are the best I've seen yet. I played through Easy (Human) and am about halfway through Normal (Devil Hunter). Im not really a Hardcore DMC player and don't play it much but I find that solving the puzzles gets boring and repetitive and it starts to bore me after 3 or 4 missions.
But it's still a great series and the storyline is amazing. First thing I noticed is how badass the cutscenes are. :-P

Well the puzzles were never the focus of the game. It's about killng demons, that's it. And if that brings you joy, then you will like the game
That being said, I've started on Son of Sparda mode, and just beat Bael. And for the record, I HATE BLITZ!!! Ridiculous monster, I think I died five times on mission 3 without even getting down it's shield. I have so much to learn to master this game.
I also find the Exceed gauge incredibly hard to master. Thus I can only conclude that DMC4 is the hardest so far in the genre.

Of course killing Demons is why I like the game. I just find that the random puzzles are useless and are only meant to make the missions longer. :|
I don't really pay much attention to the Exceed Gauge. But it really is helpful when trying to kill enemies that are normally very tough to kill. It's nice that it fills itself up as you execute combos.

No it doesn't. That's either the Stylish meter of the Devil Trigger Gauge you're thinking of
The Exceed Gauge is the little thing Nero has in the upper left corner. By pressing L2 on the PS3 controller (and corresponding on the 360) at the exact end of an attack, you can fill it up, and the stike afterwards becomes more powerful. You can charge it up by pressing L2 lots, but it takes too long and often isn't practical. However if you can master it while you execute regular sword combos, you can really improve your stylish ranking and damage potential. I'm finding it really har dto do however.

For reference, here's a pretty good but normal boss fight.
