As i sit here and munchin popcorn i think to myself What blizzard game could make a great movie!?
Now take in mind i tried to think outside the box here..
I belive Starcraft would make the best blizzard game theme movie.
Why? Simple Least back story needed! Personaly i think the main storyline itself could be the plot. Also i belive zerg would make a perfect thriller.. now with that said i know if we throw protoss in there it would be pretty much AVP. However the movie would have more variety of baddies. All from your little zerglings to massive ultralisks!
But who would be the main hero? Like i said before i seriously think we could follow the main story line and make jim raynor. Now as for who would be the actors i have no clue, I am not a movie buf kinda guy. The movie would have it all! : Action, Horror, Romance, Adventure, Giant freaking aliens to blow up with a Jim Raynor aprooved Sniper rifle of DOOM...
Alright well thats my short take on what blizzard game i think would make a killer movie.
But what Do YOU guys think? i mean this is a diablo based site im sure you guys have a fan fic brewing somewhere you'd love made blue-ray
I agree that StarCraft could be an awesome movie. Blizzard decided to make a movie for WarCraft though...
I think i understand why they made that decision, i mean its either fantasy or scifi technically.
I personally would love to see a good movie made out of the Diablo universe. It could be called Sanctuary. An action movie with horror and drama twists. With scalped heads. Oh yeah.
I think they already made a movie about starcraft..... I think it was called:
Starship Troopers!
The Protoss never appeared though.
Haha!

I think the first Diablo story would work as a movie really well. A bit like Sleepy Hollow + The Exorcist.
D2 would also make a great movie, though different. The siege on the Barbarians in the xpack could make it closer to a 300 or Troy with less horror and more action. This isn't to say the original Diablo had no action however it was darker and had, in my opinion, a more mysterious and enthralling story.
Moving out of the D universe I'd definitely agree with Starcraft but as you mentioned there'd be the danger of straying into something very similar to AVP. Blizzard would do a much better job of it though. AVP Requiem was garbage.
Warcraft would be interesting for sure. I think for me I got my fill of that universe in my wow years. I'd just hate for Blizzard to cater to the popular masses and sacrifice storytelling for mindless violence and teen drama. There's massive potential in the Warcraft universe with how the orcs went from invaders to captives in internment camps with Thrall playing the role of a fantastical Moses.
They have so many individual stories they could choose to tell in that universe, I just wonder what they would choose to do first. Personally I'd opt for a film that shows the beginning. The story we got from the Dark Portal when the orcs first arrived.
My only real advice is never sell the rights to Uwe Boll!

I was just going to say this!!
I think war craft series would be the best if you actually read some of the lore and the background of HOW war craft came to be, it’s a pretty interesting read. The game play and everything else just started going downhill once the expansions started coming out.
Lots can be done with the Diablo world you could easily do a movie for each character through the entries series.

Playing Diablo since 97. I know nothing and having nothing good to say, I be a troll.
Diablo is classic good vs evil, with humans left to create victory for either side. It could be dark, scary, epic, and a restore-faith-in-humanity piece.
As much as I love Starcraft, for some strange reason, sci-fi just never hits as close-to-home as heaven and hell stuff. It's one of the reasons why, for example, Indiana Jones:Raiders of the Lost Ark was great, and the new one was somehow, seemingly more far-fetched. Even if you're into big armies fighting, a movie about the struggle between good and evil with a smaller cast will likely be more compelling. Starcraft as a movie would likely be awesome but a bit corny and reliant on big CG battle scenes. Diablo could be the heart-wrenching tale of one person's struggle to fight pure evil.
Remember the cutscene in D2 where Marius sees the 3 prime evils and is too scared to enter the portal, and just ends up basically in an asylum? It's more of a psychologically relatable subject, seeing a normal person with actual flaws, and not a big, hulking macho-man main character that always knows the right thing to do.
I have no real stance on WOW, but you're venturing into much less relatable fantasy in that game. People like topics/characters they can relate to, and Diablo seems like the series with the most real, relatable characters.
Before I start, let me say I like Diablo. I really do.
That being said, Diablo would be an absolute garbage movie. First, hack-n-slash games never do well as movies. Second, Christians all across the nation would shit themselves over it. Third, the story would be difficult to translate into a movie.
Personally, i think Starcraft would be the best game-to-movie translation, especially if you follow Jim Raynor through it all as the main character. You could also do a sequel (Like Lion King 1.5) following Sarah Kerrigan.
While Warcraft wouldn't be a great film, it wouldn't be a bad one either. It's kinda in the middle between Diablo and Starcraft.
