Currently, I'm working on an extensive article on the races and other sentient (intelligent, thinking) beings of Sanctuary. I know there used to be threads around about this somewhere, but I've searched high and low and cannot find it. I'm also asking for personal theories (supplemented with sources) regarding these things. If you want to, just go and add stuff to the page, although I'll probably rearranged stuff so it all flows well and covers the topics in the manner I want them to be covered.
First off, I need to know as much about the Nephalem as possible in relation to bloodlines and their descendants. Our own article on the Nephalem is scant in information- it was just haphazardly copied over from the Diablo Wiki (http://wiki.diablofans.com/index.php/Nephalem). I've got basic articles on Rathma, Bul-Kathos, and Esu, but there appears to be another called "Vassily". Any other Nephalem backgrounds that anyone can trace human races in Sanctuary back to would be appreciated.
(Note: This article is not on the Nephalem. A brief sentence is sufficient for the Nephalem that precede a specific strain of humanity. This article is concerning Nephalem branches that turned in to human races.)
Information regarding the Umbaru and such, as well as the new character classes (Umbaru is the race of Witch Doctors- we need information regarding the race of Wizards as a race, not as a playable character.)
Secondly, there is another issue of race regarding sentient beings. This includes, but is not limited to, Sabercats, Fetishes, Goatmen (now noted as a "cursed" race in Diablo III- not as a demon race as previously held), Wendigos, and maybe more.
Thirdly, sentient elements. This includes, but is not limited to, the Hydras (read up on them in the Habaclava article here: http://wiki.diablofans.com/index.php/Habaclava), possibly Thorned Hulks, and maybe more.
Any and all information needs to be sifted through to find information regarding these topics as races and sentient beings (beings capable of rationalization like humans). Any and all help is appreciated, but, again, please provide sources for anything you find. And, as said, theories are also accepted, as long as evidence and sources are provided. I'll be keeping a heavy watch on this article.
Wow that's massive I don't know how much I can help out.

I do not recall who Vassily is, but all information regarding the Nephalem can be found in the Sin War. There's no a whole lot about Esu, but Bul-Kathos and Rathma feature.
How exacly they relate to the human races of today, oh I don't remember if there's any set explanation or even method of extrapolating that info.

Might be hard as of now, but should become much easier as D3 develops.

Also largely information-less. Cursed might get more info, and I think there is metnion of Sabercats and Wendigo's in the books, but other than that its largely what can be acquired from D2.
PlugY for Diablo II allows you to reset skills and stats, transfer items between characters in singleplayer, obtain all ladder runewords and do all Uberquests while offline. It is the only way to do all of the above. Please use it.
Supporting big shoulderpads and flashy armor since 2004.
I'll certainly help when I'm not posting at 1 in the morning. Since I didn't see this post until now I figured I'd mention that I'll help with the research.
I think a good way to start, also, is listening to the audio-lore on the Diablo 3 main site. I recall there being scraps of information that you may find valuable. I will listen through it again as well and hopefully I will have some more information for you.
In the meantime...
I think this is the thread that you seek.

Anyway, the article is located here: http://wiki.diablofans.com/index.php/Races.

Thanks to anyone that can help!

They never say "Thorned Hulk" but they describe it pretty much completely.
