I have a really difficult time making choices with regard to huge over-arcing stories that are portrayed via different incarnations (each Star Trek series being a separate incarnation of the Star Trek storyline, in this case; same problem I have when faced with comparing the two parts of the Diablo storyline).
You wouldn't have to dig too deep to find all the contradictions in Star Trek's lore and timeline. There's a number of simple explanations to explain this I suppose. For one thing, TOS was just kind of this universe of its own. Yes they had Klingons and Romulans back then, but it's not like they were careful to develop them as a race, they were more of just a run of the mill bunch of bad guys back then.
I think they really didn't expect Star Trek to be this long running franchise that it is today. So there were many adjustments that had to be made so things would make sense, even though some of these adjustments only add to the confusion of things. I think Enterprise is one of the biggest offenders. All it's episodes regarding first contact or what technologies they were capable off, it's hard to fit it all in with the previous Star Trek series. Personally, had hoped before Enterprise came out that they would've made a new series that moves things forward. This is also what kind of bums me out about the new Star Trek movie, that it's a prequel.
But I swear I'm not trying to be a Star Trek apologist. For the most part, I've really enjoyed each episode of Star Trek as it stood by itself. And when a series like Voyager came out, I was annoyed at first cause I'm like, crap, yet another series I have to make sure I follow and see every week. But you really can watch that show at any time during the series and enjoy it (although Voyager didn't have nearly as many good episodes as the other series).
As for that holodeck thing, I'd think more than just 1 of the people on the crews of all those ships would go nuts without a place to relax in by themselves or possibly with others aside from those tiny little bunkrooms.
I can see the holodeck becoming somewhat of an addiction for some personalities. In fact, wasn't there a TNG episode regarding that? It's been so long that I can't recall the series all that well.

Yeah, there was; Hollow Pursuits.
It was about Reg Barclay, that really shy dude. He had set up a fantasy involving a scene in which Deanna seduces him (can ya blame the guy?), and another where he has a Three-Musketeer-esque duel with Riker, Picard, and Geordi.
Some of the best Next Generation episodes were the ones with the original series crew.
The episode Relics, the one with Scotty and the Dyson Sphere, is on right now as part of an all-day-long ST: TNG marathon on the SciFi Channel.
(The Spock two-parter, Unification, is probably my favorite of the cross-over episodes.)
Yeah Unification is a great episode. I love it when Picard and Data are onboard the Klingon Bird of Prey and Picard keeps verbally sparring with its captain. And when they disguise themselves as Romulans, the Klingon is like, "Ahh, don't you two look sweet!" Hilarious.
The Dyson Sphere is one of the coolest concept in sci-fi in my opinion. I love the shots of the inside of the sphere where you can see the terraformed surface with water and land and everything.

Actually, it's real theory, rather than just (oh... I, Borg is on) fiction.
Freeman Dyson (who is still alive) theorized the existence of Dyson "shells" in an article he wrote for Science back in 1960.
I also found an abstract from an article written in a European journal in 1998, regarding an actual search for Dyson spheres. I wish I could access the full article.
So they are searching for Dyson spheres? And I knew that Dyson was a real person.
Well, I'm guessing from that abstract that a search was being planned back in '98. I don't know if it ever came to pass. I haven't dug any deeper than that (yet.)
But that just seems like a very specific thing to search for. I would think they are just looking for anything that lends to the suggestion of sentient life somewhere. It's one thing that sentient life out there may not exist, but it's another to suggest that it does and that it has somewhere built these spheres.
For the two or three other Star Trek fans on this site, I just thought I'd tell you that the new movie is not coming out in December like I thought. I was really disappointed as I just learned this today. Maybe the rest of you already knew; but it seems it has been pushed back as far as May '09. Drag.
That's what every Voyager fan thinks. I actually think Kira Nariz was pretty hot. She seemed a bit dike-ish at the beginning of the show, but then she mellowed out, grew her hair, and just started showcasing more depth than just the angry rebel fighter. She was great.
Counselor Troi too is obviously pretty hot. 7/9 is kind of an Amazon woman. Not really my type.
Thank you for clearing that up for me.:D

but no seriously, they have been working on that game forever.

The trailer doesn't seem too impressive either.

I stumped it, as well, on Veridian III, hence, my waiting two weeks to post the link.

I have a question.
What person on any of the Star Trek's would you want to date. I would really like that 7 of 9, because in my opinion, she is the hottest.
