imo, this entire site could use a design overhaul. you can have a web 2.0 look, with a sans-serif font logo, and still maintain the feel of a diablo website. too many of these logos are just over-complicated and tbh, not even a logo. overlaying some text on top of game art isn't really a logo.
the one positive thing i see here is how eager the readers are here to get involved. that's pretty cool. i would just say keep pumping out ideas! some of these have potential.
Only the staff gets to choose because we are actually responsible for the site. We will of course accePt input which is actually where the users designs come into play. We could have just asked somebody to make one but we wanted your guy's input.

I just posted my logo in the official thread and was wondering if you guys could give me feedback so that I can improve it. The other logos are looking swell too! GL all.
Are we, the users, going to have an opportunity to vote on a winner?
If not, I'd highly recommend an opportunity to do so. I was just browsing the official thread and there are some very compelling entries already, and some not so much.
I could see the potential for this to turn into a 'biggest LoL factor' competition quickly though. Maybe letting the users vote on the top 5 (serious entries only), would be something to consider? <shrug>
I don't think we have any intentions of making it a public poll.

I think eph has a point to some degree, but it is up to the site owners at the end of the day, it's their site after all. They don't want to get stuck with something that none of them agreed upon, you see what I'm saying?
Agreed. But what I'm proposing is the idea of having the general public vote for a top 5 (or even 10, dependent on submission numbers), which in where the owners or decision makers can select from.
Hey I'm new here, been lurking for a while but this competition just made me click the 'register' button, will be submitting my design shortly...may the best one win!
Hi!
Iv'e been following this site quietly for some time now and since I have a advertisement agency, this contest caught my eyes. Iv'e been lookin at all the entrys and I have one question.
A lot of people are using images from other people/companies in their logos. Do Diablo Fans have permission from Blizzard/Artists to use this images or is it just lack of knowledge about copyright laws from the contributors? I ask because I was thinking of contributing myself.
As someone that works in promotions/marketing, it's mostly a grey area (might be frowned upon, but technically not illegal) until you start making money off of it. I'm sure Blizzard is well aware of the copyright laws surrounding their art assets.
An easy example is that Blizzard provides art assets for you to create a fansite with, which include full logos, copywritten art etc. While I'm not entirely sure if those specific assets were granted a special kind of license, generally speaking, if there's no profit being made directly from those assets, there's no problem (and afaik, ad revenue is excluded). For example, if Diablofans picked a logo, and decided to create a t-shirt and tried to sell it, they could be sued. Even promotional/giveaways (free) isn't allowed since you're distributing their property.
Also keep in mind, I do live in Canada so maybe it's a bit difference, but copyright laws are typically international anyway.
In any case, when art is taken from blizzard itself, the logo looks less creative (generally). Not to mention the fact that such logos are hard to use in screenshots, white backgrounds, etc...
After seeing these pictures I decided it's part of the background, there is a hole there.(not hole exactly. There are horns.) This can be useful for people working on the new Diablo.

Well yea, it can be part of the background because of the angle. But in your image, what we see is the neck, most likely.

No. We've definitely had 1-post wonders win these kinds of contests before.

That is unfortunate.

Alternatively, the owners could select a top 20 (based on submission numbers) as a polling group for the general public.
The poll would be responsible for whittling the group into a top 3 or 5. Which would then serve as a final selection group for the owners!

i kinda dig this one (posted by Geesixyo). needs to look more like diablo though. currently looks like a bull.
What do you think:
Is this part of the background(so there's a hole) or is it part of Diablo?
It looks like part of the background to me, but I can't decide.
@blizter: I think that's one of the real competitors here.
Looks like it's part of Diablo to me.
