Okay so since the release of intel based macs and their shitty intel GMAX3100 graphics cards i have been unable to play diablo 2 which sucks hard, and yes i could just get windows on my mac but i don't feel like it. Now for those of you who don't know what is wrong with them it goes something like this. Mac and their intel Gpu uses millions of colors pretty much adding in between shades of colors rather than the normal 256 colors that diablo uses and therefore is unable to start up the game for some technical reason. I was wondering if anyone could help me, being as i don't have a b.net forum account, to go on and ask bashiok or anyone there if they know if Diablo 3 will support the millions of colors on these intel based macs? thanks in advance if anyone gets the answer.

there is currently no solution but many people are hopeful that it wil change in the upcoming d2 patch.
The graphics card is not the problem, it's the fact that you're on Intel. Diablo II's Mac version will only work on the older Power-PC processors, not the new Intels. Diablo II was designed for Mac before they adopted Intel. Also, the integrated graphics card (GMA series) are only on the lower end white Macbooks, and not meant for games or really much of anything other than the pretty GUI. I have one of these white Macbooks and sometimes games are hit or miss.
And yes, Boot Camp would probably be your best option for running Diablo II. I have an Intel Mac Pro and have to run boot camp just for older games.
Thankfully, Apple has gotten with the program and started offering GeForce 9900's in their new line of 13 inch notebooks. Great move, if you're in the market for a new laptop but don't want a MBP.
Also, I'm assuming Blizzard would not design for outdated systems. Apple is almost officially done supporting Power-PC (which the release of Snow Leopard later this year) so it would be complete insanity for Blizzard to design for a system that's soon to be no-longer in use.

Absolutely and categorically incorrect.
I have a black Mac Book with Intel Core 2 Duo and the GMA 950 series card and have had absolutely zero issues running D2 / LoD. Downloaded, installed, played. the GMA series wasn't limited to the white Mac Books. D2 will run just fine (or, rather, should) on an Intel Mac. The GMA series is indeed crap for 'real' gaming, but D2 is old and it handles it just fine.
If an application isn't designed to run properly on an Intel chipset, then Rosetta emulates PowerPC to run the application. If it's something even remotely taxing it won't handle it well, but I can run D2 with fantastic FPS.
I have no clue how you're doing that then. My discs are from when the game came out - is there a new port of the game? If not, care to shed some light on the subject for me as well?
I have two very powerful letters for you.
PC. Get one
yes very much so...
any way... did you right click the diablo 2 icon and go to properties and check/uncheck the 256 colors box? oh and be sure to run in 2d mode... it looks the same but is less intensive to run...
Looks *mostly* the same (Gotta give Blizzard some credit here and there!) Although I don't see why he'd have an issue running it in 3D mode since whatever processing power and memory is in just about any computer these days could probably run twenty Diablo II's at once

Nothing special. In fact I've several friends re-playing D2 right now on Intel Macs, not one has had a problem.
I got the digital download from the Blizzard Store, but it's not a universal binary or anything so it shouldn't make any difference except it probably comes patched.
The store even lists D2's Mac requirements as having 10.3.9 or above...
And to everyone else, you're better than that. I know the Mac vs PC argument is fun to get into, but this day and age it's really silly, especially in reference to Diablo. I'd put good money that half the current Apple machines, if bought today, would run D3 fine (perhaps not maxed) whenever it launches. The Mini and basic Mac Book line probably not, but any of the MB Pros, iMacs, etc...most even come with decent graphics cards these days.

i have 3gb ram with 250 gb harddrive and a nvidia geforce 7150 gfx card and i had trouble running d2 in 3d... i can run everything else in complete 3d with no problems... but not d2... and there is no difference graphically... it looks identical with the exception of maybe a shadow or two...

it kept lagging up when in 3d mode and when i switched to 2d it wouldnt even run. i tried alot of things too, run 256 colours, windows xp compatability and all that...no fixes...good thing the screen laggyness isnt that bad...
