I intened to post a huge rant about this but I chose not too.
I am going through a rough time with my parents, school and such.
But what I am here to ask is:
What is better for me, or just better in general.
Having a way to escape the world, and play World of Warcraft where I can do anything I ever wanted, with no limits, and just plain have fun.
* But sacrifice social life *
Or beat addiction and never play WoW again, go to parties, and do dumb shit that would harm me, or be involved with the wrong people.
----My backround info----
I have many friends, and im part of the popular click. But when
I had WoW, I did not want to go chill with people, and I stayed in the house much more then I would go out. I am 15 btw
Since I havent had WoW for 5 months, I am always out of the house, but I am slowly falling. I had quit smoking, now I smoke whenever I am with smoker friends. I do Marjuana atleast a few times every 2 weeks.
And I do not know what to do. If I had WoW I wouldnt be doing any smoking.
I have a great group of friends, just I have other friends too, and weed is just another way for me to escape. But it is harmful to me. WoW is also a way to escape, and ill be good in the long run, but suffer while I play.

I appreciate your post Ferret, and all who post here with constructive post, on how to help me, or may help others reading.
thnx for making this thread. it really helped me out. thnx ferret for the long informative post.:D
Your options are pretty dumb. You're not forced to do either. You can play WoW and still have a social life, without doing bad stuff and smokin weed. As hard as it is with an addiction to a game, there's always a way to beat it. Believe in yourself and you have to believe it's what you really want.

"Cards and flowers on your window, your friends all plead for you to stay,
sometimes beginnings aren't so simple, sometimes goodbye's the only way."
Stop being a loser. Escaping life is for losers. WoW is better than drugs and other problems, but you are only 15 and it's not in your right that you have "problems". Because you don't. Get a grip on yourself.
The first thing I would do is ask for real help. An online forum is obviously not the best since of help because some people are going to flame you for trying to seek help.
Hopefully you will find some useful information in this bit of rambling and experience from those of us who try to give positive information.
WoW can be an addiction just like any drug. If you enjoy WoW then you should play WoW for entertainment. Drugs can be bad for you and should be avoided simply because of legalities in my opinion.
If you are seeking ways to "escape" life then most likely there is an underlying problem that you need to deal with. My advice to you would be to seek out a school counselor or some adult that you are comfortable with and let them know what is going on. I know you may not want to tell your parents because of the ramifications that may come from using drugs and things of that nature. That is why I say an adult you are comfortable with.
If your friends give you grief about trying to stay off of illegal drugs then you should find new friends. If your friends don't give you any problems then you should just find ways to avoid the things you are trying to get away from. If they light up leave the room or ask them to smoke elsewhere. To me the social life is always going to be more important because even though you can socialize in WoW, you have no physical interaction with other humans and that can have negative effects on people's psychology.
I hope you find the answers to your questions.

A 15-year old who smokes pot and plays WoW all day long is asking for help? No comments...
ok, i understand what equinox is saying. but i am having the same trouble as he. i played games for the last year and have not had a social life. im trying to change my ways but its getting difficult to try to hang out with all my friiends being so far away and hard to get in touch. so dont just say this thread is for a 15 year old boy who smokes weed and plays wow. give a helpful comment for people like me.:D
1. Drop your friends. They are all idiots.
2. Centralize on your education. Try to be a valedictorian. This may get pretty hard and occupy you that you won't have any pals at all.
3. Get into a sport. Helps a lot, especially if you care about that sport. Maybe some extracurriculars. NJROTC is great.
4. Get a job.
5. Read books. They waste time but at least they improve your grammar.

Speaks the hypocrit. Her addiction is internet, and contradicting herself.
Anyways, back to the topic.
Dude, I did the same thing with Diablo. This is what I did.
Find a job, and get a girlfriend. Both are hard, both take time, trust me I know. But if you can pull them off, they will cut into WoW like you wouldn't believe. Also, get a new circle of friends, not the popular ones. Find a group that just likes to mess around and doesn't care about status, like ROTC or something.
In all, WoW is better than smoking. And try being friends with your parents. Talk to them, and find a way to interact with them without all the drama. Be open about how you feel with them, and if they are good parents they'll listen and adjust to a better way. A family needs to talk to each other so that everyone's happy. So if any of the above things don't work for you, try working on your family. Spend more time with your parents, its good for you.
Jeez Olga, we don't want a bunch of anti-social clones lurking around here just like you now do we?..
Kid, just take a couple months off WoW, stop smoking pot, get into a sport, sports are fun, I played football for a few years in highschool.
And saying that you can't get addicted to a video game is a bullshit lie, you can become addicted to a ton of shit, hoarding, sex, drugs, television, and video games, they're a form of entertainment that needs to be taken in moderation, Olga you need to do less reading an take a look out the window every now an then.
Kids coming to these forums an posting your life problems already shows you have a major obsession/problem, go talk to your parents, or close friends, see what kind of things you can go out an do, go to the movies, go play pool, or bowling, or even go bike riding for a little while every day or w/e pending on the location. Get out, and get active, socialize.

2. education before anything.
3. have fun. party when you can.
4. make your life the way you want it. not what other people want
5. make the choices you think will benifit yourself. not what other people tell you to.

1. You have no friends. None. 0. Those people will sell you over the moment something crops up. You can't trust them. Not as this age, especially, people don't know what friendship is.
2. If you were into education you wouldn't be here.
3. Have fun and party? Well, WoW and pot and friends is just that. So if you want to have fun why are you asking me for advice? Pulling out is never fun lol.
4. Well, obviously all you want is to have fun.
5. Your choices obviously benefit you.

You just can't stop can you? Stop trying to bring the world down with you. Your life is horrible enough, stop trying to make everyone else's the same.
Equinox you sort of crossed the line, there will always be people someone can trust, it's up to that person to make the decisions for themselves, not have some little antisocial closet case give them advice, you're 17, you're not an all knowing saint.

No it can't. WoW causes no drug-like addiction. It's merely a bad life viewpoint.
That's what school is for.
