Once again I'm met with the overwhelming sensation that they just stole what they could from D3 and then slapped it together with their crappy level design and ugly graphics I wasted good money on Torchlight!
That Berzerker guy's abilities just look really boring and plain. Not to mention a bit clunky :\
Enjoyed the first one although the loot system didn't really progress much, it became repetitive especially if you didn't download any mods. Even the random dungeons did not have enough randomness in them. Thanks to the modding community, it made me play more that I should have.
Torchlight 2 will be like what what diablo 1 did to diablo 2 LoD. It will be an awesome game, not to mention how cheap it will be but if this game doesn't release b4 diablo 3, I might not even have a chance to play it which is unfortunate.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
I love all loot fest kind of game! I will be playing all of them for the next few years. Loot fest games I'm looking forward to: LotR: War in the North,Torchlight 2,Borderlands 2 and of course Diablo 3.
I dunno Torchlight is pretty fun for the money spent. Torchlight 2, hopefully I'll feel the same. It does seem like a watered down version of Diablo 3, but with mods, and you pay less. So it sort of equals out in some way in my opinion.
I like at the end of the video when asked when it's coming out. "Hopefully before Diablo 3"
Max Shcaefer was a lead designer in D2 and partially early stages of D3, so it's natural that he'd want to steal some of the newer ideas. Seems sort of spiteful. Then again they're good ideas so why not.
They were not meeting Blizzards standards apparently.
On August 1, 2005, Blizzard Entertainment announced the closure of Blizzard North. A key reason for the closure was Blizzard North's poor development of what was to be Diablo III which did not meet the expectations of Vivendi.
Schaefer went on to hop to Flagship Studios working on Hellgate: London, and Mythos and when that began to sink, Runic Games.
I enjoyed torchlight 1, but as they say, it really missed multiplayer, so this will properly be worth playing until D3, but with that said, its pretty much just a Diablo ripoff with its own style
"each person gets their own loot"
But didn't he used to be Blizzard north employ?
And what is it with the glitch around the char every 5 sec
To be completely fair, Hellgate: London had that loot distribution mechanic even before Diablo 3 was announced. And as you may know, several of the guys at Runic Games worked at Flagship Studios, so one could argue that Blizzard borrowed this mechanic from them, and not the other way around.
Edit: Mythos had the same mechanic, I believe. I guess that's a better example, given its direct connection with the guys at Runic Games.
same here, i was bored half ways thro the game an just wanted it to be over. was fun for awhile tho trin out all 3 characters. but after killing the last diablo like boss i didnt feel like playing it again.
Maybe with the multiplayer in tl2 it should be better. i'll play it anyways even tho i'd probably just play thro it once.
What i hate about TL2 is how "plain" it's design is. When asked whats new in TL2, Schaefer said stuff like: hobby cities, different enviorment, new characters... In other words, TL2 brings anything new to the table. That's disapointing since TL had some experimental ideas (the pet system, mixing of D1 and D2 skiill system).
Also the gamespot guy must be a dropout. He said TL loot system was good while it's certainly the worst part of the game! WTF!
Imo TL has some extremly good qualities that people often ignore, like the combat system. However the game's flaws (only a few classes each one with only a few skills and having access to only a few equipaments) overshadowed it's quality, to a point that TL died quite fast for most people. For TL2 i'm hoping they keep the good combat system in the game and fix the biggest flaws... Still i was expecting more revolutionary system.
The fun bit was the enchanting system. It had no limits really, your uber enchanted weapon would be truly unique.
The bad bit, was the enchanting system. Your awesome bow could turn from the most godly item ever, to the most worthless piece of crap on a vendor in the blink of an eye.
And you would have paid a ton for getting it into that state.
I'd rather have seen a big "failed" message, and lost twice the gold instead of having it turned into toilet paper T_T
The pet is amusing, it's nice to send it to town to sell your junk much as we'll have the horadric cube in D3
And then there were the bugs... so many, and all of them "known" but never resolved.
Poor devs never allowed to fix them because the managers want TL2 done and ready.
Blizzard is much better in that aspect, at least we have seen a ton of fixes on D1 and D2 even years after their release.
Torchlight hasn't really seen much love even after weeks of it's release.
Stupid hierloom health bug....

As far as I know D3 50$ like all PC games, and Torchlight said something around the ballpark of 30$.

Imo path of exile has much, much more potential.
