Seriously. I can understand a banner at the top of the page, but when it takes up the whole background, I call shenanigans.
We are Diablofans.
Yes, a lot of us are interested in Torchlight, but I still find it insulting to the community here, for the staff to be blatantly advertising another game. We are practically part of Blizzard. For Christ sake, after Blizzard bought Diablo3.com, it still linked here from Blizzard.com!!!!! This is selling out in my book.
What do you guys think about this whole thing? What if the new staff would have put up a Sims 3 background? It would be freaking full scale riots. Its like a Corvette forum advertising the Nissan GT-R!!! You don't advertise the freakin' competition!!
You would never, ever have seen any of the old staff advertising anywhere beyond a banner on the HOMEPAGE, or any other page. PERIOD.
Yeah, it is probably a little thing that I'm exploding at, but after The Curse Network kicked out every single mod who created this site, it seems like they are trying to change Dfans into something that it shouldn't be. The Curse Network is pushing their luck now.
So I'm gonna suggest that either this thread be made into a poll, or perhaps a mod should make a poll that asks:
Should the site contain background advertisements for anything other than Diablo?
Choices:
1. HELL NO! This is DIABLOFANS.COM!!
2. Other game companies are okay to advertise, except for EA.
3. Anything is okay to advertise, including blowup dolls, dildoes, and pocket pussies.
Hmm, I hope I'm not the only one to dislike this then. I actually do want to play Torchlight, but I just feel it shouldn't be the background image. I mean we've already got a dozen Torchlight threads to do all the advertising.
I just realized, not only is the banner and the background advertising Torchlight, but there are TWO boxes on the side that also advertise it. I think this is overkill, and plain tacky.
First and foremost, we are a community of gamers that revolves a solid 15 year old hack-n-slash RPG that will be receiving a new title in a few years. With that in mind, our beloved Blizzard:North, the company who created D1/D2/LoD, separated from Blizzard and created their own Diablo 3-looking game called Torchlight. This game should fulfill our Diablo-appetite while we wait. If you haven't noticed, TL looks exactly the same as Diablo3, just more cartoonish, whereas D3 looks more realistic. While there are differences in the game, which i'm sure we'll be discussing in greater detail here soon, they are one in the same. I think it looks like a great game, and while I am a Blizzard fan to the soul, I feel it's OK to support a previously Blizzard-owed company. Torchlight is the closest we're going to get to Diablo3 until we actually start the beta testing. And don't worry guys... We aren't cheating on Blizz, ^_^.
As far as the Curse Torchlight Ad goes, we have costs in running the website (and network) and they have to be paid, new sites skins and hard work don't come cheap!

This is true, and I understand where your coming from. But honestly, you have banner-TL background-TL and then home page 2 boxes-TL.
I will agree with someone said above. That this is pretty overkill. I can see a banner. and the background changing here and there. But the 2 boxes having the same advertisment inside them? Thats pretty much 1 advertisment twice. Which gets boring.
What about having more then one thing advertising on the site.
Maybe TL on the banner, Maybe a different diablo background or something diablo related (come on it is a diablo site and having a site that the background doesnt support its site just seems wierd to me. but will give props for the background and banner coming together. i did like that) and then maybe a TL in the advertisment box and another ad in the other box.
I agree, but don't you think the background is... a little too much?
i do kinda agree. but like i said. I really do like the background going with the banner. but I do think that the background should represent the site as much as possible.
As far as the Curse Torchlight Ad goes, we have costs in running the website (and network) and they have to be paid, new sites skins and hard work don't come cheap!
I get where you are coming from. Costs and all that. But you are taking up all 4 advertising spots with 1 ad.
As I said before, I am looking forward to Torchlight, I'm sure it will be a great game (minus some of the depth). But really, it is only, what, 3 guys who used to work for Blizz North? And weren't they booted from Blizz because they came up with a shoddy version and Blizz south didn't think it was up to quality. Anyways, I will surely get the game to support them, but I feel 2 ads for the game would be plenty.

What the hell are you guys on about? Where are the ads?
I just see three ad windows with Dragonica and some sort of dating site?
Weird. Delete cookies?
For everyone who can't see it, this is what the homepage is currently showing, even upon multiple refreshes and cookies deleted. The other box is when you scroll down a bit, and it looks identical to the what is in that other box, just that it doesn't play a video.

Hah!
I don't see that because I got this whoopass browser called Safari
And that would make sense. Damn Firefox!! What about Chrome? Does that still show it too?
hmmmm...I remember when i was back in high school. I would have to go to google. and type in diablo fans.
then use the cache to open it up. the only problem was that it would show things from about a month ago. hahaha. maybe depending on different web browsers thats why you guys are not seeing it. I wouldnt know. haha
I don't see the problem I never visit the homepage anyhow.
Anyway what's the big deal it's a big game that came out recently and it's a dungeon crawler made by a lot of the old Diablo staff. It's not like it's being advertised OVER Diablo 3, there's just no Diablo 3 to advertise right now. Glad the space is going to something. Also the ad revenue will increase the funds given toward this sites improvement, at least in theory.
Thats true. but still. i mean, isnt it possible to get advertising on the site from more then 1 place? thats kinda what im just saying. haha. I'm fine with advertising it. but do we need it just everywhere?
The problem is, torchlight is NOT Diablo 3 and Blizzard North has nothing to do with Blizzard anymore and does not exist. We are the fans of the DIABLO franchise. I don't care if the artists of the game made wow, this is not a WOW fansite.
Its definitely way too much. ya'll should be ashamed, sellouts. A billboard is fine. But the whole damn background? Justify it however you want you still know its a sellout move.

Selling out is the opposite of what you're angry about. Torchlight is a low budget, small game.
That we covered our whole freakin front page with. Like I said, justify it however you want. That was not charity work.

You are right. Sixen said he put it up there to help the folks that designed Diablo 1+2, who now happen to design Torchlight. No reason to be angry, since it's not your website and you can easily ignore it.
Like I said, justify a sellout however you want.Yes I can repeat it a few more times if you would like.
This has nothing to do with "helping" anybody. If that were the case you would have seen a big Hellgate London Banner on our site BEFORE it was owned by curse, or sponsored or whatever you want to call it.
For the record, fans make up this community, don't forget it.

There is no reason to make such a big fuss over this. Being a "sellout" is normal for any website. More money equals a higher budget for the site. So I really don't care who is advertising or how much ad space they are using, if it helps the site, good.We need to give these guys some time to prove themselves.
For the record, fans make up this community, don't forget it.
Exactly, how are the fans affected by ads? What bad has Curse done? None, they're actually working on things that the previous admins blatantly ignored.
So, chin up lads!

And yeah.... was a bit odd to see that on the background.
It's like another Diablo game though, so I guess I'm fine with it ^^.

cause its a inferiour clone to d2
