Perhaps they are also using the same technology that Bungie used in their new engine: the ability to actually reduce the quality of textures that are far away to save both memory space and rendering time. That would be awesome since that also allows nearby textures to be of really high quality, which is really rare in console games these days. Most engines are forced to find a balance between viewing distance and texture quality, which is pretty sad as that often removes the feeling of a large world.
Didn't they do that with the Gamebryo engine for Oblivion?
Just listened to the Bethesda podcast. Todd Howard said that we would be getting a lot more info in Mid-late January through GameInformer magazine, stuff like that.
Also:
- In his eyes, the trailer is an "Announcement trailer" (as opposed to a teaser trailer).
- The reason that they didn't come out with a lot of info is that they want to keep people excited and they didn't want to let any cats out of the bag.
That's it for now.

Hope I inspired some of you to try the mods out and revitalize your Oblivion experience.
I play with mods too, and I agree that they do enhance the gaming experience. I only get mods that don't make the game outrageous (castle add-ons, . Like my friend got the Midas spells mod, some nude mods, and the Akatosh mount. Now he's got a bunch of giant nude women roaming the Imperial City. It's all very ridiculous, but I think it's funny.
I am definitely getting this for PC. No doubt about it. I'll play it Vanilla a couple times through, then I'll see what I can do with console commands, then I'll seriously look at mods.

Also, fact: Oblivion was not a good game. The mods made the game good, the game was not good on its own.
I can agree with you on that... to an extent. Sure, there are a lot of things that could've been more polished and a few more features implemented, but that game has been around since 2006. And there are still mods being made today, so I guess that says something about the game itself. I don't think a game half as good as Oblivion could've garnered such a devout mod-base. I mean, sure, a lot of Oblivion's fans are diehard ES fans, but I played Morrowind when it came out and I didn't like it, but I loved Oblivion.
I have high hopes for Skyrim. This video, although it has a good minute of stuff about other games, a lot of it does have to do with Skyrim development. It seems like they're taking a much more readied approach to it and, I mean, looking at the previous list, I think they have something going here.
My friend got Reaper's "Necromancer Tower" mod and I think that is easily one of the best mods out there. Just a recommendation.
I mean, mods of high quality give me such a good feeling about how mods will play out with Skyrim. There are people who can do amazing things with the game and I can't wait to see how they'll play out.
Edit: I might actually start playing with mods when Skyrim comes out because I want to make legitimate castles. Like, castles modeled after IRL ones.
And fingers crossed for a mod-friendly engine.

I'll admit, when this game was first announced I wasn't really excited about it, it was just sort of "meh, I might buy it." But they more shit I see about it... I get more and more excited and it is now a must buy on the top of my list (behind Diablo 3 of course). I am honestly stoked for this game. Hopefully it is like how fallout 3 was for me when it first came out, and by that I mean I hope I spend 300+ playing over, and over, and over again. Till my controller breaks mayne.
It's going to use a new engine too!
A so called "Creation Engine". There's also a screenshot and a full article on it on Gameinformer. (click here). If the screenshot is from the game itself and not an engine benchmark it's going to be spectacular!
Gameinformer has "The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim" under the screenshot (when you click it for full size).
Saving the image to the computer has the "Markarth01" as default.
To be fair, when we saw the first screenshots of Oblivion, most of us would admit that they all looked really, really good. Besides the people. But of course at the time those weren't too bad compared to the other open-world sandbox games at the time. For that reason I don't see the point in throwing everything they show us through a pessimistic sieve.
Landscape was extremely good in Oblivion too, so there's good chance that the screenshot is from gameplay. What i'm more curious about is if they finally make the character animations more realistic.
Oblivion looked, and still looks quite awesome in my opinion. The only gripe I had with it is lack of variety in landscapes, but that's a whole other issue.
Those graphics are hardly unreal at this point, that's pretty much how Project Offset looked way back.
I want to play this game so much! After watching that gameplay trailer I often get the urge to play Morrowind. I really like how they combined the actual gameplay shout with the soundtrack one into one epic crescendo.
When you look in the trailer you can see the ground on fire. I've heard that that's an actual mechanic, so everybody that's on that patch gets some dps or something. Here's hoping for some 'entagle' or 'slowing sludge' type of AoE spells.
Didn't they do that with the Gamebryo engine for Oblivion?

I dunno, dude. It'll most likely spawn some disgusting NSFW content though.
Everything else sounds really good, especially the parts talking about the dialogues being more dynamic and the environments being more realistic.
Stuff I like to hear.

Beards are now confirmed for Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.
The PC version also comes pre-loaded with modding tools.

I've been looking all over for new info (primarily in the form of new lists), but I haven't been able to find much.
Has anybody found any cool info?

That trailer is, quite honestly, the most impressive thing I've seen this year.

I might try it a little, but I won't invest much time in this.
