I must say, this is one of the story aspects that has really gotten me excited and curious.
What has happened to the Diablo 2?
We know what happened to the original cast. The warrior became the Wanderer, the rogue became Blood Raven, and the sorcerer became the Summoner. They all became twisted by the forces of Tristram and thus enemies in Diablo 2. I wonder if the same fate awaits the survivors of Diablo 2.
I really hope that they haven't all ended up corrupted. Especially the paladin should have pulled through, he fights demons as a profession. I would really like it if he becomes a quest giver along the way. Since the barbarian is no longer the one from D2, because of lore, then I wonder what lore Blizzard decided is appropriate. Does that mean according to lore he should have become corrupted?
I truly hope the necromancer became corrupted though, because that would be an epic battle.
What do you guys think? Do you hope some stayed uncorrupted, while others didn't? Are you eager to fight a specific class? Or what would you like to see happened to the cast of Diablo 2?
All heroes have been corrupted from what I heard. Hopefully we've not seen the end of them. If I know Blizz well enough, we haven't.
Not true at all, blizz confirmed we would see the paladin, necro and barb as quest givers in there related towns.
The D3 barb was suppose to be the same as the one from D2, but they felt it would be unfair to the female so they made him a quest giver instead, now as for the Amazon, Druid, Assassian, they said we'd see the Amazon again...just not how or why...the other two since they were expansion chars...who knows.
The Sorc is the only one not mentioned in a previous interview, so no idea, my guess is she is the wizards mother lawl.
Wasn't it stated somewhere a while back that the Paladin would be a quest or side-quest giver? I could be wrong though. Nevertheless, having to fight their corrupted beings would be mucho fun esp. fighting the druid in his werewolf or werebear form would be pretty intense. Here is pretty cool idea they may have thought up: Having the previous heroes corrupted and recruited as Diablo's personal guard and you must kill them before the final fight with D himself.

Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
One is never hurt by being given additional choices, only by taking them away. A QUADRILLION MAGIC FIND is worthless if you can't kill shit!
I think according to the lore, all the D2 heroes (or at least the original 5) defeated Diablo and Meph together as a group and smashed their soulstones, thus there's no reason any of them would become corrupted, unless some outside agent was working their strings, which doesn't seem to be the case.
I'm really eager to see the old characters return to tell their stories/quests.
Speaking of the Necro, there were some corrupted Necros that you fight in the beta. They were either corrupted or traitors, I forget which. I think their lore has it that they are completely neutral and only fight for which ever side is losing in the balance of light vs evil (luckily the light is always losing lol)
Since the barbarian is no longer the one from D2, because of lore
where does it say that? from the wiki
The Male Barbarian is the same Barbarian who destroyed Diablo in Diablo II.
The Barbarian is the only class known to have differing lore between the male and female.
i know things can change but i haven't seen anything about this change anywhere
They retconned him, he was originally the same Barb, but they decided to put him elsewhere, probably protecting the void left in the wake of the Worldstone being destroyed.
watch the videos of the beta as well, the barb has no freaking idea who deckard cain is.
Err.. are you guys sure that the Barb is no longer the one from D2? Gonna need some source on this.
Here's a quote from Bashiok:
There were talks shortly after BlizzCon about this and I believe the idea to give the male barbarian a unique story as compared to the female gender is now in question. It's very likely to be simplified, the male barbarian would not be unique, and would no longer be spelled out as the barbarian from Diablo II.
Pretty sure that Wizard = Sorceress it's just renamed to Wizard because of the Male gender. Still the sorc from D2 is a different character with her own lore.
Not quite. There is a difference. This is the description from the battle.net Diablo 3 site:
'Magic-users hail from academies throughout Sanctuary – from Xiansai to Caldeum – bearing monikers like "sorcerer" and "mage," but those who would refer to themselves with the derogatory epithet "wizard" are as similar to their fellow spellcasters as a lion is to a kitten. Wizards and sorcerers both wield the hidden mysteries of the arcane; there, the commonalities end.'
