Full disclaimer here, haven't played Diablo 3 in a very long time, may start again in this season, but I always check to see the updates and patches, while looking at them I saw a post about a group that achieved Rank 1 on HC. In said topic everyone was claiming that they were cheating by using Turbo HUD. Wanting to know exactly what this Turbo HUD was, I looked it up and saw what it does... And I can't see how exactly is that Cheating O.o
Must be because I've played a lot of WoW, but it would be the same as saying top raids cheat by using their own version of Deadly Boss or Custom Hotbar. Up until where I was able to see, it doesn't assist you in any other way other than providing more information.
-EDIT-
Reading around, I've heard it has Map Hack, is this true? If so, it's cheating and nevermind my question.
Not to mention they (thud users) know where clusters of monsters will be and what powers incoming elite packs have before what they would normally know without it.
Thud users will try to mask it as they can, or justify it's use but the point is that it allows too much advantage over non users and while blizzard aproves add-ons in wow they do not in diablo and THUD is nothing like old wow add-ons, (although i've quit wow a long time ago so i can't really say much about those nowadays anyway).
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
Those Who Do Not Know True Pain Cannot Possibly Understand True Peace...
People are being bitches about it because it shows the general layout of the map that you are currently on. It's not discovered or anything but it shows you roughly where an exit to the map should be (not always the case, since maps are randomized in rifts).
But yea if you played the game enough you know the maps and should find the exit at almost the same time as someone who uses Thud. Or you could simply google the map layouts and have them up on your 2nd monitor, but I guess that's cheating too Kappa.
Before I say a word, I'm going to ask that we remain civil about this discussion. That means no flaming/trolling. "People are being bitches about it" is NOT being civil. Take that tone down a notch or two please.
People are totally welcome to discuss this highly polarizing issue here, just do so like an adult, please.
Now that this is out of the way;
What we see you doing here is exactly what pisses a lot of folks off about ThuD use. Anytime people do something they know is wrong, they minimize it completely. ThuD does a hell of a lot more than just loosely indicate an exit. It also indicates nearby uncovered shrines, elite packs and their affixes...and much more.
All these tip-offs are essential in top placement. If I had knowledge of where the exit may be, I would zoom right to it when my R6 enters a level filled with runners, bees, exorcists etc. You are wrong to imply that all tile sets have exits in the same spot. That's 100% bull pies. They do not, and you can think the exit is in a certain direction, only to end up pinned in a dead end with 100 horrible things blocking your path back.
In HC, this can spell death.
It is cheating, of course it's cheating. It is not only against the clearly written rules, it enhances your ability to perform completely and it is NOT part of the game.
I repeat...IT IS NOT PART OF THE GAME. It is cheating. Call it what it is. You can call it a ham sandwich if you like, it's still cheating.
I am currently pushing for top placement in the far less competitive HC NS Monk boards. Less competitive, but still competitive. If I used a 3rd party program to help me in any way, I would consider myself cheating.
No ThuD here. Clean as a whistle. I assure you, I could climb higher and have a much easier time with an add-on overlay like ThuD. Of course I would. I just failed a 47 which could've gotten me as high as 2nd spot. It was in the Spider Cave tile set, and the floor was filled with Boogan's pelting me with ranged shots, absolutely tearing me a new asshole.
I tried a few times to blink ahead and find the next floor down, but I kept getting led to dead-ends, almost dying, having droves of nasty bastards piling up behind me. Trying to find my way out almost cost me my precious Monk.
THUD gives you an advantage over those who don't use it. This should be clear.
For example, it's extremely useful in high grifts as it tells you what mobs are off screen (affixes etc) so you know what your about to run into and can plan ahead before pulling. This helps a lot in groups with positioning.
It's considered cheating because it violates the ToS (reads from memory blah blah), AddOns in WoW are very different.

It shows way more than that, especially where mobs are, what rarity they are, what affixes they have, etc. Even without regard to anything it does, it is a 3rd party program which is enough to make it against the EULA. WoW has UI customization built in as a feature using an API that blizzard provides people but D3 devs specifically decided not to allow UI customization because they want it to be a very simply (and totally stupid) UI similar to D2.
Most of the stuff in THud should just be baselined because at this point everyone is presumed to be using it whether they are or not and it's near impossible to group with people that aren't using it. Expanding the map view and providing an option to display mob affixes on top of them instead having to try to hover over them aren't that drastic of changes but would even things out a lot.
I thought we had that discussion already in a different thread. If I play with a higher resolution than you, I get to see things before you. Can't really consider this as a cheat.
This is a feature included in the game. THUD is not included in the game and violates the terms of use...
If it was such a big deal don't you think Blizzard would say sth about it?
Blizzard almost never comments on exploits, hacks or cheats. They've stated this several times. Take HonorBuddy as an example...
Most people use it because blizzards interface, let's say it could use some more features.
Why people use it is irrelevant, however, most people at the top-end use it for an advantage, not just because "features are lacking". There is no grey area here, using it is cheating and against the ToS. Whether or not you agree that it should be against the ToS is another topic entirely.
It's a 3rd-party program....against the EULA....thus a cheat, any way you wanna spin it! I don't understand why that's so difficult for people to comprehend.

If I was to make a DPS meter (nothing else but DPS meter) would that be a cheat?
If I was to make a legendary tracker, that does nothing else but track how many legendaries per hour I get, would that be a cheat?
I'm sorry sir but your logic is invalid. Sure it's against EULA, but its not a cheat.
Your logic is actually flawed. It's against the rules of the game, therefore a cheat. Much like ANY game if you don't follow the rules intentionally you ARE cheating.
And your two examples are cheating (both able to potentially give you an advantage). Both would essentially require you to read the games memory, which is not permitted.
Denying that using THUD is cheating is pointless. It is.
It seems like you would be better off discussing whether use of these programs SHOULD be a violation of the terms.
Before I say a word, I'm going to ask that we remain civil about this discussion. That means no flaming/trolling. "People are being bitches about it" is NOT being civil. Take that tone down a notch or two please.
Really? Lmao. My statement right there is simply the truth, instead of playing the game, minding your own business, you complain about sth that doesn't affect you. "I got only to rank 5 because everyone is using Thud" - Clap yourself on the shoulder you made it to rank 5, tell yourself and your friends you could've made it to r1 if it wasn't for the top 4 using turbohud, next season no one will give a shit about your rank from last season anyways.
You're not supposed to use quotation marks for entirely made up sentences. They're for quoting people....like exactly what they said.
I have no idea who may have used ThuD that were ahead of me, and you fail to comprehend my point. My point wasn't that I only got to rank 5 due to people ahead using ThuD. My point was that I could go higher if I used it.
I would understand your complaints if....
I'm not complaining. I'm saying it like it is. I actually enjoy beating out people who used cheats.
Second: It's not hard to move your mouse cursor over a pack to see which affixes it has, that's what I'm doing and I can't think of a way that would be an unfair advantage against me, I see a pack on my screen, my mouse cursor is instantly on the pack and I can see its affixes, wether it gets displayed on top of them or whatever won't make a huge difference (hey you saved a millisecond there, gj!).
Many times, especially in HC, you're best served skipping elites. Some builds don't jive with certain Affix/monster combos. Being able to go around/avoid certain packs without aggro'ing them is quite the advantage.
First off: to everyone saying: "It shows stuff before it pops up on your screen", I thought we had that discussion already in a different thread. If I play with a higher resolution than you, I get to see things before you. Can't really consider this as a cheat.
Well... I created this topic for someone to explain to me in why it was cheating, not to create a flame war of point of views... This proved to be quite pointless >.>
Anyway, from what I understand, 95% of it's functions of not what I would consider a cheat, but the last 5%, essentially being Map Hack, is. So, thanks anyway, lock this thread please, thanks.
@Atyio ~ You said (and I'm quoting verbatim, unlike yourself) ~ "you complain about sth that doesn't affect you. "I got only to rank 5 because everyone is using Thud"
That insinuates that I said that. I did not say that. I actually am quite indifferent about the whole thing. I cannot control what others do. I can only control my decisions, and I frankly don't care much about ThuD. I've played PC games for many many years, and I know there will always be cheats, and people will always use them.

That's just silly.

1. Cheating in sports is the intentional breaking of rules in order to obtain an advantage over the other teams or players.
2. To violate rules deliberately.
3. intentionally programmed or a glitch or coded by the player input by the player in order to achieve one or more of the following:
--snipped--
d. (when coded by the player) to gain an unfair advantage in multiplayer competition
That seems to define exactly what is happening here.
Your edit makes no sense and contradicts the rest of that post.
