To turn the page a bit, I wanted to see what everyone thought about D3's expansion packs given what we know the game is shipping with.
We have 5 classes and 4 player max per session. We have the artisans and gems and all the rest. A while back, some document was "leaked" showing the planned release dates of a lot of Blizzard's franchises, including upcoming WoW expansions, D3 slated for Q4 2011, and even Titan. Whether or not it was fake, one thing I believe that it did predict correctly was that there will be two expansions to Diablo 3. Since there's no monthly fee to pay for content, they'll need at least 2 expos to keep the content fresh enough that the game's shelf life reaches a respectable level with regards to the time/development costs of the game (which, in terms of years, has been huge --> look to those old screens of Blizz North's D3).
I don't know if we could have 7 classes after its all said and done, but the first expansion will have a new class, that's for sure. I suppose we are in for more acts, more items, and more of the same (except new, heh) but my creativity is coming to a standstill. Perhaps they are planning major PvP extensions, such as battlegrounds, or gauntlets, or any of the great ideas people submitted to the D3 Blizz forums. I think that incorporating PvE into the PvP will tie it more into a Diablo-esque style.
Blizzard expansions always have features that couldn't make it in time for release. Sometimes even data for expansion things are half-implemented in the original launch (Starcraft 1 did this a lot). Also, if you pay close enough attention to the story, you can see they foreshadow things. In classic D2, Natalya was an NPC in act 3 that used the Assassin model. Also in the original cinematic, Baal (the expansion boss) was disguised as Tyrael.
For Diablo 3, we will most certainly see an aspect of Charms (ie; the return of the Talisman).
i think they will end up adding 2-4 classes depending how many they want to add per expansion. In the past there's allways been 1 - 2 chars per expansion. Had Diablo 1 with the monk and the Diablo 1 premade character expansion were you could play as OP Chars like Ares god of war. Diablo 2 released the druid and assassin as extra classes. Extra acts is a safe bet. They may add new tiers of armor, new gems new rune stones. Etc etc etc. I just hope they keep the game going for awhile. Cause honestly Diablo is one game that can never even come close to dieing i bet you right now theres still millions playing d2. and Prolly a few million playing d1 still. This is just gonna be another addition to hugely long lasting online games franchise

I've been playing D2 lately, at BEST you have 100,000 people playing at once and a good portion of them are bots, I doubt there are millions. I agree the franchise is great and has a good following considering but lets not blow this our of proportion.
Overall the same old, new acts, new gear, new classes. Likely going to implement more PvP, I honestly can't think of anything new and creative that they will provide.
