This has been a question I've had for quite a while, but my imagination was stirred again by the new System Check ScyberDragon posted about on the front page.
The question is: What aspects of the beta profile matter? (note: the new profile added internet connection speed, so that's probably a major contributor) Here's a list of the specs they analyse:
I have my own theories, but I'd first like to know what you guys think.
Man... I wish I had something better than DSL... Maybe I should switch to something better. Although really it never causes probs with online games. From FPS to SC2 and WoW I always have real low latency. /shrug
I think they pay attention to Internet speeds, Type of CPU Core Speeds, Type of GPU, Gpu Mem, Res, and Memory.
They all have important factors in a game, Cpu is for Physics so testing out on many different types and speed of cpu's is good, Resolution induces higher or lower framerates, Video memory allows you to run Higher resolutions with less stress, Gpu obviously is important for optimization of every GPU type, And internet speed will test world latency to Blizzards servers.

Not even Death will save you from Diablo Bunny's Cuteness!
I assume all of those things are important since they are bothering to measure them. Essentially Blizzard wants to get as many unique combinations of hardware to test their game on as possible, to find any problems that might arise.
strange... everyone got internet connection speed in their profile, i dont , i even redownloaded the program, sent the new info and still dont have the criteria...

did you refresh the page? mine wasnt there, but appeared after refreshing.

I do envy fast internet tho
Not sure how they are measuring the internet speed. It is quite a bit off on mine.
Hmm.. oddly enough I just updated my beta opt-in profile, and it doesn't include my internet speed like your guys' does. Anyone that might have any clue as to why it's not showing.. ?
I posted my 17" MacBook Pro specs hoping it gives me a better chance to "test" the Mac version and get an invite. Even though I will be playing on my PC, thought it was a good idea.
Personally, I think that the more borderline your system is on the minimum requirements, or the more unique your hardware, the better chance you have. There'll be tons of people who have great video cards and great connections. But how many will be trying to run the game with older hardware? Still lots, but to be sure, much less than better hardware.
I got a macbook pro with a 9400Nvidia mobile card, I'm wondering whether to register one of my bnet accounts, or might it be too shitty for even minimum specs?
is it just me thinking that due to the blizzard-might-want-as-much-different-systems-as-possible thing it may be smarter to collect info from your old-ass system (and I dont mean like ancient old, lets say 4 years old or so) rather than modern gaming rig?
I did exactly that
btw it sees only one windows partition instead of whole HDD, that kind of unfair
Dude, there is no "fair". There is no competition.
Yes it is clearly an e-peen thread, but I certainly couldn't care less. My specs are the lowest posted so far but i'm not worried about being able to play the game smoothly at all.
I'm imagining you can only post from one machine against a given account, otherwise we'd all be scraping up 4+ year old boxes to increase our chances, haha.

I think it all matters equally. They want to test it on a wide range of systems, not just the best ones.

My brother-in-law had the SC2 beta on his Mac, plus you should read the Beta FAQ (last post) and your questions will be answered my friend!

No harm done.
