My understanding is that you'll be able to solo any difficulty, albeit with more challenge as you go up. I haven't seen any indicators that inferno will require a highly coordinated effort by four players.

I think it will be something, but I'm leaning away from a beta announcement. Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't we know that the beta will be starting off in NA only? Wouldn't it be sort of counter-intuitive to announce "Hey beta is this date... but not for most of you!"

Something like Inferno reveal seems more like it.

I'm not sure if I can kill Leoric over and over for 3-4 months straight... lol

Remember that there is a lot of randomization, also in the way the world is build each time you play it. So you might be playing the same short piece of content each time for 1 or 2 months, but it might not really feel that bad since the world is different each time you walk through it.

There's only so much randomization you can have in a 1 hour segment of game played over months of time lol. It will be a good test of the randomization though!

Yes Macs are much more rare and thus probably have a better chance of getting in.

Edit: To be clear, we don't know what Blizz takes into account when choosing people for beta. But as far as hardware goes, they want to test on a wide range of hardware for compatibility issues. Thus, having rarer hardware gives you a better chance in that regard.

They aren't going to choose based on the power of the system. They know how much power is needed. They will choose based on the rarity of the hardware.

Man... I wish I had something better than DSL... Maybe I should switch to something better. Although really it never causes probs with online games. From FPS to SC2 and WoW I always have real low latency. /shrug

I do envy fast internet tho :)

Not sure how they are measuring the internet speed. It is quite a bit off on mine.

    posted a message on Runes
As of right now (as far as we know) runes are still the same. The random idea is something that they still wanted to try as of the media event.

The understanding I got of the random idea is this:

-When runes drop, they are generic, with a level
-You drop them into a skill that you would like to use them with
-When you do, they turn into a certain rune for that skill (ie. maybe an obsidian, maybe an alabaster, but specific to that skill)
-In addition, they get a small charm-like stat bonus/effect
-After this, they cannot be used in another skill.

The idea being, that they would be randomized with the stat, and getting the perfect rune of type as well as a very beneficial stat to the class would take a while, as opposed to just finding a rank 7 rune of the type you want and using it.

I personally am dubious about this because it would be pretty frustrating to have runes repeatedly turn into crap. Jay said that they were planning on trying it, and they didn't know if it would work or if it would suck.

    Quote from Azjenco

I don't like the term endgame. It makes it sound like the rest of the game only sets up for what is to come, like the end matters more than the journey. Nonetheless, an uneasiness crept up on me earlier, especially in view of all the news we were given today.
And no, I am not about to go off on Blizzard for ruining my childhood legacy. In fact, I love everything they've announced. So with that in mind, here's what's bothered me:

First there is the void of skill points, a very flexible change. Now you build a character and change him/her around anyway to your liking. By the time you reach the end of Hell, due to the way the game is set up, you should be near if not already level 60.
From here there are some options remaining, I guess: PvP, keep playing, or create a new character. Let's say your previous character was a Monk, I don't see any incentive for recreating a Monk. So you create a Demon Hunter, finish Hell and then go for a Witch Doctor, and so you reach 60, with each character. I know I'm making it sound like a breeze when in truth it will take time, but bear with me.
Some people probably wont play every class, especially not through each difficulty, I know I'm only focused on three of the five. So let's say I have my desired three up till 60, and I am not interested in PvP. There is little reason to recreate my favorite class, since the one I already have has all the items I already desire, or I may as well focus on pushing for better items, which would be better than restarting anew from level 1. But does keep playing mean I have to do Hell act 5 over and over again? I've read somewhere that they want to remove the boss farming issue of Diablo 2, but the idea of doing this over and over again seems to combat their intentions.

So, here's a thought I had about that issue. What about adding in max level content?
At first I thought another difficulty after hell, but that would be redundant and stupid.
Next I thought, what about the cow level, albeit something similar, not a secret level exactly. More in the line of an extremely challenging level where you could get specific legendary gear, and with challenging fights to really test your character. Think of an infernal pit in act 5 in Diablo 2. It was a mini self contained level. What I'm thinking of is the same deal. While the the level is hard to begin with, it could also spawn dangerous bosses, sort of the same idea as they did with Lilith later on in Diablo 2.

I'm probably getting ahead of myself. This sort of feels like a pre-emptive solution to a something that may or may not even exist as it stands. The thing is, with the new changes I'm just a bit 'worried' - though that might be the wrong word to use here. I just don't see a reason for having more than 5 characters, one of each class. And I'm really looking forward to playing Wizard, but what incentive would there be for playing onward when he's reached level 60?
    That's my only thought.

    Anyone else thought about this?

There is some solid evidence that there may be a 4th difficulty.

all i can say is that anyone against the auction house needs to take a class in econ 101/102.
we r playing a game, we r not doing economics.

we r trying to find out what would b more fun, not more logical or practical or better.

and part of playing this game is access to good items. And to gain access you can either waste time and

    1) jump from game to game trying to find what your looking for, then offer whatever you have to try and get it.
    2) grind endlessly trying to find your item, find other items that arent good for you and try to proceed to option 1
    3) find items you may not need, put them in an auction house and exchange for gold. then use the gold to buy what you DO need at a reasonable price fixed by supply and demand.

    clearly option 3 is better.

Simply, there will be a currency, either an item thats the perfect balance of rare, or gold. i feel gold is better.

in your opinion 3 is better.

"find items you may not need, put them in an auction house."
if everybody does that, then the auction house would be a huge pile or random useless items.

you'll even find very rare items in the thousands, which will drastically reduce the price of those very hard to find items
if we have a gold based currency.

That's not how economies work. If very rare items are available in the thousands, that means there are a proportionately large amount of people looking to buy them. Just because an AH exists doesn't make rare items less rare.

We haven't made any announcements yet regarding trade systems, but it's something we'll be prepared to reveal soon™.

I think it's something people are going to be pretty psyched about, if not passionately indifferent.

I don't think we will see an auction house, it's not original, and I'm sure, that blizzard have thought about everything.

i'm very sure that we will probably still see face to face trading, but this time they will just encourage it by making it easier to find people to trade with.

few options are possible: we can brainstorm some of the possible ways they could do it:

1-they can make a website/forum like where you can login from everywhere even from work and you can trade stuff there without even having to start the game.
to keep it diabloish, they can sow you your inventory, and you can drag and drop your items in trade menus on a website. (that's doable)

2-special games where people can meet and trade (the market idea)
problem with this idea is that you don't know what people offer in each game, so they might probably make a system where you can see what the people in the game offer or even search items in a kind of search menu, and it will tell you what game to join or who is the owner of the item.

    3-trading channels <- DII
this one is too old school for our todays standards so they will probably try to find another way.

a solution to this is the possibility to trade directly in trade channels, why not? they never said that we HAD to start a game to trade. it could be nice and save us some time.

3-an auction house like menu where you can see what people offer, but you can't buy from it, you can leave an offer in text form or drag and drop items from a chat inventory. he can see the offers people made, and can invite the people to a trade game to seal the deal.
or use option 2 and start a trade directly from the chat channels.

if you guys have other ideas, you can post them let's try to brainstorm it.

You are basically compiling a list of trading solutions that are less efficient than a regular AH. I can add one if you want: Let's have an AH like menu where you can see what people offer, but before you buy from it, you have to leave a message for them, at least 100 characters long, to promote social interaction.

I sincerely hope they don't implement something less efficient than an AH. I don't find it enjoyable arguing with stupid people about how much their stuff is worth. With an AH, I can show them how much their stuff is worth, and find the stuff I need a whole lot easier.

It may be wishful thinking on my part, but if I'm interpreting Bash's quote on psyched/passionately indifferent, an AH fits that statement pretty well.

    Quote from FelReaver

So what happens when i search in the proposed AH for 35-40 lvl 2h sword with 100%ED and i get 1K results? And i don't mean 1k identical swords, 'cause most will have additional affixes. I don't call that convenient either.

This argument makes 0 sense. If you get 1k results, that simply means you have enough results that you can probably find exactly what you are looking for. That's a bad thing how?

What happens when I join a market type game looking for a 35-40 lvl 2h sword with 100%ED and I get 0 results? Do you like that better somehow?

If you would be content joining a market style game, finding a lvl 35-40 2h sword with 100%ED and some modifiers that are simply OK, then you should be content getting your 1k results on the AH, browsing through the first 20 to find something OK, and buying it.

Surround sound in headphones is a myth; it doesn't exist. You can't tell the difference between multiple speakers less than half an inch away from your ear, you would probably get even more confused.

I'm not sure exactly what this is trying to say, but headphones definitely have the ability to simulate surround sound with timings and speaker positioning in the can.

But anyway, I use a Logitech G35 I got for a good price and it works well for me. Before that I had a very basic Sennheiser headphones with no mic. They were uncomfortable because they sat on top of some of my ear, but I will say that they sounded quite good for their price. If you purchased a better model with bigger cans I'm sure they would be nice.
