The shared stash should have a search option available to be able to find that specific item you were looking for. You should be able to include specific attributes to make finding items with, say, +Dex, +Attack Speed, and +Life Steal in the blink of an eye. I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard for them to implement, especially because they'll most likely have a similar search feature in the Auction House(if there is one).
I don't think the stash will be big enough to warrant it but it would still be cool.
Actually now that I think about it, in WoW I always had a hard time finding items because of the small icons. They're using the same kind of icons in D3. I suppose after enough play time I'll learn them but still I wish they were bigger.
As far as the shared stash goes, how big do you think it will be? I doubt it will be so big that we need a search function to find things in it. I would see it as just another stash, just one that's account based. That being the case set stuff out in some kind of system. Example: tanky get in top, right; caster gear bottom, left; I dunno crit gear bottom, right; resource gear top, left. This way when you jump on an alt all the stuff will be in the same places. Now an AH search is a must and should have details you can set for searches. Btw no more dex check out the new stats system.
If you have so much in your stashes that you need a search function I'd recommend that you look into crafting more. (#5 say dis-a-semble)
If too many things are automated people will forget how to do simple things, like organize stuff XD
but maybe if the stash is pretty big, and icons fairly small, it would definitely help, less time looking for items means more time crafting, or killing monsters
Or what if the stash could organize itself with tabs and such? I'd find it pretty useful if there was a normal stash where you just drop your stuff in that you would be using regularly or just getting a set of gear ready to start with an alt, but then on top of that there is a separate stash that you drop your item into and it goes into its appropriate category, such as the weapon, bow, gloves, uniques section etc.
A little like how I would expect the auction house to be.
I really rather doubt they'd put something like that in there even if it were huge. WoW never had that kind of function and in the end, I can't blame them for not bothering with that sort of thing.
On a side note though, I've never played a RPG that actually had a big enough shared stash (TQ's was awesome for muling, but it only made muling easier, not unnecessary), so hopefully they give you some tabs (Maybe as buyable gold sinks? ;)), and it would be nice if the main character stash also had some good (and perhaps purchaseable) expansion tabs.

What do you guys think? Any other suggestions?
