i wouldn't say only the Blizzcon attendees, cause that's only about 1000 and that's merely not enough for the test needs.
i'd be putting my money on a friends & family beta first, that we'll know nothing of when it takes place and then a "public" closed beta where random people will be selected from the beta opt-in in the battle.net account.
so far we can only assume or better said, hope, about what it's going to include (popular opinion is it's going to be act1 only) or when it's going to begin (i like to hope early 2011 with chances of it starting around March being significantly higher).
As Fingol mentioned, there will almost certainly be a Non-Disclosure Agreement on the Friend's and Family Alpha, those of who invited will not be able to confirm or deny their involvement until the NDA is lifted. These people will also likely be part of the next phase, Beta.
i thought bashiok said something about a friends and family beta going on already when he said that you can technically play the full game even though some things wernt done so you could strike a boss and it says congrats move on
so dont quote me on this but i thought i remember him saying that and i'll look again if i can find the quote

This was actually mentioned in an interview with Jay Wilson at Blizzcon 2010 for the DirectTV stream, but it was about how complete the game was and testing game play fluidity, not Friend's & Family Alpha.
Yeah I'd love to opt-in for the beta, but the goddam blizzard system checker apparently doesn't like my Windows7 + AT&T U-Verse killer combo. Balls for me.

Does anyone know anyone playing it?
What kind of information can a beta player let out?
Kefka, Final Fantasy VI
What we know is that it will at least be a closed Beta to those who get invites (implied from the random selection at Blizzcon).

Considering that only 1000 Blizzcon attendees is not a strong selection and there is a Beta opt-in on the Blizzard site, no.

Nah, they will not announce either, but I'm sure we will hear about it one way or another...
I think they'll add family n friends but thats it for now... I don't think they'll do a huge beta test with this game
