enlighten me, what's the point of making cool down skills turn-offable?
hey, If I'm fighting a Barbarian with some godly weapons and he stuns me with that ground stomping move (which has a cool down on it -- and was what I was thinking of at the time I put that option) chances are he's gonna kill me while I'm still stunned, that would be pretty frustrating IMO.

I don't think monsters should be able to be turned off.
Or else you could make a private game at level 1 and explore the whole game. Maybe even find chests and barrels with items.
I was thinking if they had skills like the Assassin's trap, that just hit anything hostile near it, it would be useful to have monsters turned off so your traps would only affect whoever you're fighting against.
and correct me if I'm wrong, but they promised us hundreds of monsters at a time on screen. while that's AMAZING for a PvE game, it could get in the way of a PvP game.
but you're right about running though the game for chests.
maybe have no chests too? or a PvP arena?? or they can make it so you can only access areas that you've already explored before when making a pvp game.... but that would mean different people can access different places in the same game, so scrap that. Maybe have only so much of each area accessable?

ok, i like the idea alot then. Just wanted clarification.

Well if the fighting takes place outside the Act 1 town like the Rogue Camp, monsters shouldn't be a problem. I'm not opposed to a PvP arena though.
Well..first turning cool down on and off can become a balancing issue, and i'm sure can be exploited into some sort of hack to use in regular games. The problem with Diablo 2 dueling is that it really depended on level and armor (depending on armor is fine, thats the type of game.) but it never took alot of strategy to kill, click around insanely (retreat and attack). I think they need to implement some kind of strategy, something like using the environment. Skills that bring monsters to fight on your side, for example it has a large cool down so you have to choose wisely, i don know. uhh, summons that summon different creatures based on turrain you stand on, randomly appearing challenges etc. PVP arena isnt a bad idea.

I'm not sure where you read that, but in the gameplay preview he said that they were reducing the size of monster hordes and focusing more on making fewer enemies that were tougher, since you cant quaff potions constantly.
Anyway I don't think that the zombies will be creating a wall of flesh up to the edge of town so you can probably get some breathing room to duel without any problems...
Still, a dedicated PvP colosseum would be best.

For example, I decide to make a PvP game I should get another screen with more options, sort of like the options they have in FPS games.
but for Diablo they'd be something like:
Health Potions :.................. yes[]................. no[]
Mana Potions:..................... yes[]................. no[]
level Difference: .......................0 to whatever
Cool Down Skills:................. Yes[]................. no[]
Teleport: ..............................on[].................. off[]
Waypoints: ........only towns[]..... all activated[]......off[]
Town Portals:....................... on[].................. off[]
Monsters: .............................on[].................. off[]
Health Orbs:........................ on[]................... off[]
these are just some of the things I can think off that should be there.
