Since town portals are gone... well... how I'm I supposed to loot stuff??
I don't want to have to run all the way to a waypoint just
to sell some loot. I'm I missing something? Are town portals even gone
for sure?

Have an Android phone? Tired of having to pull out and unlock your phone just to change the song that's playing? Want to be able to use the volume and power buttons to control your music player instead? Check out Tactile Player, made by yours truly.
Yes, TP are oficially gone. About the loot, you must remember that the inventory is now bigger (not exactly bigger, it's just that items are smaller), and I guess we will also have more waypoints. And about selling loot, now we have each item valor on it's info, so we know if each one is worth carrying or not. Anyways, I think blizz will also come up with some other great solutions, like some vendors on the middle of nowhere or something like that.
Yeah, I wonder about this too. They say it would slow down gameplay.. but I have nothing against slowing down gameplay occasionally for the sake of some loot or easier travel. I think Blizzard is over-emphasizing the need for fast-paced gameplay. It's not like anyone ever made you use a town portal, anyway.

Nope. But if you die, it'll be easier on you, you just respawn a bit close, with no penalty at all and not having to harvest your corpse. At least for now, that is
I'm assuming to make up for it waypoints will be more frequent and not so far out of the way. Also, many items only take up one slot, with only weapons and body armor taking up more, and quest items have their own set of slots. Not to mention I would be very surprised if you were to have an inventory full of items worth keeping, as I'm sure the only way the new inventory (which can be upgraded) would only become full if you had many crude, etc items in your inventory.
no no thats wrong there will be a penalty they just had it turned off for the demo and havn't decided what exactly it will be yet - as far as ive seen/read
I think they did this mostly because of technical issues. There would
be alot bugs if town portals were used during some kinda scripted instance..
I don't know just my thoughts. I just hope they make up for removing them.

Will there?
Don't remember on reading anything about it. No idea whatsoever on what it will be?
And for hardcore players, yeah, you're basically screwed. lol

It's easy enough to script something to be unusable at certain times.
Also, not me personally, but a fair amount of people I know picked up and sold EVERYTHING in D2. Which meant frequent town portal stops. So, you're act 5 hell difficulty, rich as hell, and some bolts drop that you don't have room for? Yep, town portal back and sell stuff.
So, even if we have bigger inventories in D3, these types of players will still fill up quickly and feel the urge to go back to town to sell.

OMG, selling bolts? lol
But yeah, you got a point... Specially since blizz said that gold is gonna be important now (at least they plan too), so every dime is gonna be important. Wanna see how they'll handle this one.

Gold being important does not mean every dime is. Think about it. If whatever they use to make gold important (respecs or otherwise) costs 100,000 gold, and bolts sell for 100, then if TPs were implemented, they cost the same as a TP (assuming the same price as in D2), and even if it was more than a TP, it really wouldnt get you that much closer to your goal. Also, if gold really matters that much, you can simply go back and sell every time you come across a waypoint. In the end, I would be very surprised if selling anything but blues/purples/golds was even worth it, and it would be very hard to fill your inventory with only those important items.
Just speculation, but I'm afraid that might make the game more linear. I can understand the need to make leaving town tense, but taking away the ability to quickly go back to town (which would then let you quickly travel between towns) is just yet another freedom that is stripped. Oh well, we'll just have to trust Blizzard with these choices and hope it works out for the best.
Even if it's easy enough to get back to town, with a lot of waypoints or something, it'll be a shame to see town portals go. They've always been such an iconic part of Diablo.

Oh my god, I'm ACTUALLY going to drop bad items and pick up what will sell for more, instead of picking up every single things and selling them (like thats a good gameplay element, right? Picking absolutely everything thats on the ground?)
There is absolutely no need for TPs. They create a way too big sense of safety. Even in the middle of a dungeon, you can just warp back. Its not even only about getting out of a fight to get potions or something, since they could easily disable TPs during combat. Its about your inventory's limited size serving a purpose, its about not feeling safe and one step close to town no matter where you are. Its about making a visit deep in a dungeon an actual trip that you can't get out of in a click.
Its really not anyone's problem if you feel the absolute need to pick up every single thing and sell them. You'll have to realize that this won't be the most efficient way anymore.
with them gone, maybe there an inbetween method between waypoints?
like youve passed a waypoint a while ago the end of the dungeon isnt in sight, maybe theres a dusty tome on the shelf that opens a portal, or portal shrine.
that way you dont have an escape route all the time, but still have that option in between waypoints.
if they wanted to keep them in, but still maintain their fast paced action mantra, just make it so you cant use them in combat
